Round 4 Feature Match: Ed Acepcion Versus Alexander Robertson
Round 4 is here! In this Feature Match we have Ed Acepcion from Las Vegas, Nevada, Dueling Alexander Robertson, from London. Both competitors flew all the way here to Vancouver to try for their chance at becoming a YCS Champion. Both duelists currently have 2 wins and 1 loss so far here in Day 1, so they’re each vying to stay alive in the tournament.
Acepcion won the dice roll and opted to go first.
Robertson opened with Triple Tactics Talent, Abomination’s Prison, Escape of the Unchained, Pot of Prosperity, and Infinite Impermance. Acepcion started off the match by Normal Summoning Diviner of the Herald and used its effect to send Agido the Ancient Sentinel. Five cards were sent from both player’s Decks to the Graveyard. Acepcion sent Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju, Keldo the Sacred Protector, Foolish Burial Goods, Primeval Planet Perlereino, and Shaddoll Beast. Robertson sent Dark Contract with the Gate, Infinite Impermanence, Unchained Soul of Shyama, and 2 copies of Tour Guide from the Underworld. Shaddoll Beast activated, and Acepcion drew and used King of the Swamp to get Polymerization.
Acepcion activated Mudora the Sword Oracle by discarding Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard. Kelbek sent 5 more cards from each players Deck to the Graveyard. Acepcion acrtivated the effect of Tearlaments Scream to find Tearlaments Sulliek. He used Diviner and Mudora to Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur. He used Tearlaments Grief next, to Summon and send Tearlaments Havnis. He fused Havnis and King of the Swamp to Summon Granguignol the Dusk Dragon. That let him send El Shaddoll Construct to the Graveyard, which got him Shaddoll Schism. Acepcion activated Primeval Planet Perlereino to add Tearlaments Havnis to his hand, Set 2 cards face-down and passed play over to Robertson.
Robertson drew D/D/D Vice King Requiem and thought for a moment at the start of his Main Phase 1, before activating Pot of Prosperity. He banished 6 cards to reveal another Prosperity, Abomination’s Prison, Triple Tactics Thrust, Abominable Chamber of the Unchained, Dark Contract with the Gate, and Unchained Twins – Sarama. He took Abomination’s Prison. Robertson activated Infinite Impermanence on Baronne de Fleur, then set a card face-down. He used Unchained Soul of Shyama’s effect in the Graveyard to destroy his Set card, and Acepcion flipped and activated Shaddoll Schism! He banished Construct and Beast from his Graveyard to Special Summon El Shaddoll Winda. Shyama hit the field.
Robertson activated Abomination’s Prison and searched Unchained Twins – Sarama, then proceeded to Normal Summon Sarama. On the Summon, Acepcion activated Mudora the Sword Oracle, shuffling back his Agido, Kelbek, and Diviner. Robertson activated Triple Tactics Talent to take control of Granguignol. He switched Granguignol to Attack Position, and realizing he’d made a mistake, Robertson conceded the first Duel!
Ed Acepcion takes the first Duel of the match with a flood of cards sent to the Graveyard!
Robertson chose to go first. He opened up with 2 Dark Contract with the Gate, Abominable Unchained Soul, and 2 Unchained Twins – Aruha. He started the Duel off with Dark Contract to search D/D/D Vice King Requiem. He placed it into the Pendulum Zone and used its effect to destroy his Gate. Robertson summoned D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex, set Aruha from his hand, then destroyed Unchained Twins – Aruha to shuffle back his destroyed Dark Contract. Aruha activated to Summon out Unchained Soul of Sharvara, and Abominable Unchained Soul Summoned from hand. He Linked the 2 Unchained monsters to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama.
He used Unchained Soul of Sharvara to Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained from the Deck, while Unchained Soul Lord of Yama got him back Shvara. He activated Unchained Twins – Aruha to destroy Abominable Chamber and Summon it. Abominable Chamber’s effect then Summoned Unchained Twins – Sarama. That reset the Abominable Chamber of the Unchained.
Robertson activated the effect of Unchained Soul of Sharvara from his hand and destroyed Sarama to Summon it. Sarama’s effect activated to Summon Unchained Soul of Shyama. He used Shyama and Lord Yama to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. Robertson used the Shyama’s effect in the Graveyard to destroy Soul of Rage and revive it. Lord Yama’s effect let him bring back Soul of Rage and Shyama got Robertson back his Sarama. He then used Sharvara and Shyama to Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar!
Robertson activated Dark Contract with the Gate from his hand and ended his turn.
Acepcion drew for turn and Special Summoned Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju by Tributing King Caesar. Unchained Soul of Sharvara let him Set Escape of the Unchained. Acepcion discarded King of the Swamp to get Polymerization, then activated Tearlaments Scream.
Acepcion revealed and activated Mudora the Sword Oracle by discarding Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard. Both players sent 5 cards from their Deck to the Graveyard: Acepcion sent Foolish Burial, Nibiru, the Primal Being, Keldo the Sacred Protector, Tearlaments Merrli, and Tearlaments Havnis. He activated Merrli, fused it with Havnis and King of the Swamp, and unleashed Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart!
Kaleido-Heart’s effect activated targeting Unchained Soul of Rage, and Tearlaments Scream chained to it, Robertson responded with his Soul of Rage, Linking Soul of Rage and Kaleido-Heart for Unchained Soul Lord of Yama. Scream resolved and sent Tearlaments Kashtira, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Tearlaments Sulliek to the Graveyard. Lord Yama got back Unchained Soul of Sharvara, Sulliek got him Tearlaments Shieren, and he used Scream to send Primeval Planet Perlereino and Agido the Ancient Sentinel to the Graveyard.
Agido’s effect activated and sent 5 more cards from each player’s Deck. Acepcion activated Helshaddoll Hollow and chained Trivi-Karma to add Primeval Planet Perlereino, sent a Shaddoll Beast to the Graveyard, and drew a card from it. After everything resolved, Robertson flipped over Abominable Chamber of the Unchained, Summoning Abominable Unchained Soul to destroy Mudora. Acepcion activated Primeval Planet Perlereino from his hand and searched Tearlaments Reinoheart.
Acepcion activated Mudora and shuffled back his Kaleido-Heart and 2 other cards, then tried to use Perlereino to destroy D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex. He chained Sharvara to destroy Unchained Soul Lord of Yama, Perlereino destroyed Machinex, and Lord Yama Summoned back Machinex. Acepcion tried to activate Shaddoll Fusion but forgot that the Machinex was no longer considered to’ve been Summoned from the Extra Deck!
He activated the effect of Tearlaments Scheiren instead and Summoned it, but didn’t send anything to his Graveyard that could help his situation. Knowing that there was nothing he could do, Acepcion conceded the second Duel. We’re going to Game 3!
Acepcion opted to go first for the final Duel. Robertson started with Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Nibiru, the Primal Being, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Pot of Prosperity, and Abominable Unchained Soul.
Acepcion Summoned Tearlaments Reinoheart, sending Tearlaments Kashtira from the Deck to the Graveyard. Trivi-Karma was sent and activated, but Robertson met it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Tearlaments Kashtira’s effect was activated next, banishing the previously sent Tearlaments Kashtira from the Graveyard to Summon and send. Tearlaments Havnis, Tearlaments Reinoheart, and Keldo the Sacred Protector all hit the Graveyard. Acepcion activated the effect of Tearlaments Havnis, and used King of the Swamp to Fusion Summon Granguignol the Dusk Dragon, which sent El Shaddoll Apkallone in turn.
The Apkallone let him search Shaddoll Beast and send Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard to the Graveyard. The effects of Tearlaments Sulliek and Tearlaments Scream both activated, along with Unchained Soul of Sharvara! Sharvara let him Set Escape and he added Scheiren and Sulliek to his hand. He Summoned Scheiren by sending Shaddoll Beast to the Graveyard, and that sent Tearlaments Merrli, Havis and a Perlereino!
Acepcion activated Merrli as Chain Link 1 and Beast as Chain Link 2. He fused Merrli with Havnis and Reinoheart to summon Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart! It let him shuffle away the Set Escape of the Unchained. Acepcion then Xyz Summoned Abyss Dweller with Scheiren and Reinoheart. He Linked Tearlaments Kashtira and Granguignol to Link Summon Cross Sheep, then Set 2 cards and tried to end his Main Phase. Robertson revealed Nibiru, the Primal Being! The Primal Being Token was summoned in Defense Position with 5400 Attack and 4400 Defense.
Continuing his Main Phase, Acepcion activated Kaleido-Heart’s effect, and he chained Keldo to shuffle back his Scheiren and 2 other cards. He Special Summoned Kaleido-Heart with its own ability and sent Tearlaments Scheiren to the Graveyard. He fused Scheiren and Shaddoll Beast to make El Shaddoll Winda, finally ending his turn, having recovered some of his board in the wake of Nibiru. Would it be enough?
Robertson drew another Nibiru, the Primal Being for his turn. He activated Pot of Prosperity, banishing 6 cards only for Acepcion to respond with Ash Blossom. Fiendish Rhino Warrior was Normal Summoned and Tearlaments Sulliek immediately negated it. Sending Kaleido-Heart to the Graveyard, which then came back, sent Tearlaments Kashtira to the Grave, and shuffled back Nibiru.
Fiendish Rhino Warrior attacked Winda, Rhino Warrior was destroyed and activated, with Abominable Unchained Soul chaining to it. Rhino sent Sharvara, and Abominable destroyed Kaleido-Heart. Robertson used Sharvara’s effect to Set Escape of the Unchained and passed his turn.
Acepcion drew for his turn and activated Mudora the Sword Oracle’s effect, shuffling back El Shaddoll Winda, Tearlaments Reinoheart, and Primeval Planet Perlereino. Then he flipped Shaddoll Schism! That let him Summon El Shaddoll Winda, and sent Abominable Unchained Soul.to the Graveyard. Acepcion made a direct attack to seal the Match!
Ed Acepcion chalks up the win with his Shaddoll Tearlaments deck, and moves on with a 3-1 record!
