Just a couple weeks ago, the newest Speed Duel Box, Speed Duel: Streets of Battle City was released, changing up the format drastically. In addition to that, some Skill Cards recently had their text updated! Now we are in the Finals of the Speed Duel ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD!! Event for Saturday! Alex Cheung is from Vancouver, BC and his opponent is Jacob Syme from Burnaby, BC. Both Duelists and are excited to bring home some giant prizes! 

Cheung is using the new Weevil Skill Card, My Precious Queen, while Syme is running the newest Joey Skill Card, Iron Grit! This will be an interesting Match as both Duelists are using decks based on cards from the new Speed Duel Box.

Duel 1

Syme won the die roll and opted to start the Match. He opened with Blast with Chain, Shrink, Volcanic Rocket, and Book of Moon. At the start of the Duel, both Duelists flipped over their Skill Cards.

Syme started the Finals off by Normal Summoning Volcanic Rocket and used its effect to add Blaze Accelerator to his hand. He Set Shrink and Blast With Chain and proceeded to his End Phase. During the End Phase, Cheung used My Precious Queen to Summon an Insect Monster Token in Defense Position.

Cheung drew for turn and activated Ledger of Legerdemain, banishing the top 3 cards of his deck face-down. He switched his Token into Attack Position and activated Creature Swap! Gaining control of Volcanic Rocket, he moved to his Battle Phase.

Cheung had Volcanic Rocket attack the Token to inflict 1800 points of damage to Syme. Then, Cheung went to his End Phase, Summoned another Insect Monster Token and passed his turn. 

Syme drew Sphere Kuriboh for his turn, and just immediately passed. During the End Phase, Cheung summoned another Insect Monster Token. 

Cheung drew a card to start his turn and activated Token Sundae! Syme let the Sundae destroy Blast With Chain and Book of Moon. 

Cheung Set 1 card, then attacked with Volcanic Rocket and was stopped by Sphere Kuriboh. He went to his End Phase and summoned another Token.

Syme drew Wild Fire for turn. In his Main Phase he activated Blaze Accelerator. He Set 2 cards. During the End Phase, Cheung summoned another Token to fill up his field. 

Cheung drew for his turn and activated another Ledger of Legerdemain, banishing another 3 cards face-down to be drawn later on. He switched Volcanic Rocket into Attack Position and attacked directly. Syme activated his Set Wild Fire, dropping his Life Points down to 1700 to destroy his Blaze Accelerator and wipe out Cheung’s monsters! He then Special Summoned a Wild Fire Token in Attack Position.

Cheung summoned another Insect Monster Token and passed his turn. 

Syme drew and Normal Summoned Gearfried the Iron Knight. The Wild Fire Token burned away the Insect Monster Token, then Gearfried attacked directly! Another Insect Monster Token was summoned as Syme ended his turn. 

Cheung drew to start his turn, then added the 3 face-down cards from his first Ledger of Legerdemain to his hand. He paused for a moment to analyze all of the cards in his hand before he Set 1 face-down and summoned another Insect Monster Token to end his turn.

Syme drew and Normal Summoned Volcanic Rocket and activated its effect to add back Blaze Accelerator to his hand. He went to the Battle Phase and tried to knock out Cheung’s Tokens but was stopped by Waboku! Cheung summoned a third Insect Monster Token in the End Phase.

Cheung drew for turn and activated Token Sundae, destroying his three Tokens to destroy Syme’s Token, Shrink, and Volcanic Rocket. Then Cheung Normal Summoned Cyber Valley. He Set 1 card and summoned another Token to end his turn.

Syme drew and Set Blast With Chain. He went into his Battle Phase and attacked over the Insect Monster Token, and then another Token replaced it during the End Phase.

Cheung drew and added the 3 cards from his second Ledger of Legerdemain to his hand. He Set 1 card and ended his turn with another Token. 

Syme drew and Set Windstorm of Etaqua. He moved to the Battle Phase and had Gearfried attack Cyber Valley. Cheung used Cyber Valley’s effect to end the Battle Phase and draw a card. His field was then filled up with another Token. 

Cheung started his turn and Tributed an Insect Monster Token for Insect Princess! He moved to his End Phase and had to discard Creature Swap to maintain 6 cards in his hand.

Syme drew Blast With Chain for his turn. He paused, then activated his Set Blast With Chain, targeting his Gearfried. Gearfried destroyed Blast With Chain, which destroyed Insect Princess! He Set his new Blast With Chain, and then traded an old Token for a new one to end his turn. 

Cheung drew and activated his Set Jar of Avarice, shuffling back 2 Token Sundae, Waboku, Insect Princess, and Ledger of Legerdemain to draw 1 card. Cheung looked at the 8 cards in his hand for the best play before Normal Summoning Cyber Valley. He activated Cyber Valley’s third effect to recycle his Jar of Avarice by banishing Floodgate Trap Hole. He Summoned another Token to end his turn.

Syme drew Book of Moon and he attacked into a Token that was eventually replaced by My Precious Queen. 

Cheung drew for turn and ended his turn by discarding Hammer Shot.

Syme drew Volcanic Rocket for his turn and looked at his face-down cards. He ended his turn.

Cheung ended his turn by discarding another Hammer Shot. 

Syme drew Sphere Kuriboh and passed his turn. 

Chaung ended his turn by discarding a Sphere Kuriboh of his own.

Syme drew Wild Fire. Then he activated Blast With Chain on his Gearfired, Gearfried’s effect destroyed Blast With Chain, and Blast With Chain destroyed Cheung’s Set Floodgate Trap Hole.

Cheung drew a card, Set 1 card, and passed his turn.

Syme Drew Shrink, and passed his turn.

Cheung drew and laughed at his hand. He had tons of options, but also not that many at the same time. He Tribute Summoned Insect Princess and ended his turn. 

During the End Phase, Syme flipped Wild Fire and destroyed all of Cheung’s monsters and Summoned a Wild Fire Token. Cheung Summoned an Insect Monster Token and ended his turn.

Syme drew Reinforcement of the Army and activated it! He added Gearfried the Iron Knight to his hand! He Set 1 card, then Normal Summoned Gearfried. His Battle Phase was stopped by Waboku! He passed his turn.

Cheung drew a card and during the Standby Phase activated Golden Ladybug. He Tributed both of Syme’s Gearfrieds for Lava Golem and then Set a monster and 1 card to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. Cheung Summoned a Token in the End Phase and Syme flipped Book of Moon to flip the Lava Golem face-down. 

Syme drew the last card in his deck: Gearfried the Iron Knight! He Normal Summoned Gearfriend and tried to attack for game but Cheung had 1 last Waboku to save himself!

Cheung wins the first game thanks to a never-ending supply of Tokens!

Duel 2

With about 12 minutes left on the clock, both players are ready to start the second game. Syme opted to go second!

Both Duelists activated their Skill Cards. Syme opened with 2 Blast With Chain, Wild Fire, and Volcanic Rocket. Cheung started his turn with Ledger of Legerdemain, setting aside some cards for a later turn. He Set one card to his back row and ended his turn with a Token. 

Syme drew Shrink for his turn and Normal Summoned Volcanic Rocket. He used its effect to add Blaze Accelerator to his hand. He Set a Blast With Chain, along with Shrink. He attacked over the Token, even though it was about to be replaced by another one!

Cheung switched his Token into Attack Position and then activated Creature Swap, swapping it with a Volcanic Rocket. He declared an attack with Volcanic Rocket and Syme chained Blast With Chain to boost up his Token. He thought he would be able to destroy a card with Blast With Chain, but didn’t realize that it had to be destroyed by a card effect! Another Token was Summoned in the End Phase.

Syme drew Sphere Kuriboh, Set Wild Fire, and activated Blaze Accelerator. He then passed his turn.

Cheung drew a card and went straight into his Battle Phase. He attacked, but his field got wiped out by Wild Fire! He Summoned another Token to end his turn.

Syme drew Reinforcement of the Army and used it to get Gearfried the Iron Knight. He had his Wild Fire Token attack the Insect Monster Token but was stopped by Sphere Kuriboh! Gearfried destroyed the Token, and Cheung’s Skill replaced it.

Cheung drew and Normal Summoned Insect Princess by Tributing his Token. He had it attack, but was stopped by Sphere Kuriboh! He ended his turn by Summoning another Token. 

Syme drew Shrink and switched his Wild Fire Token into Attack Position. He had Gearfried attack over the Insect Princess, and the Wild Fire Token destroyed the Insect Token. Another Insect Token popped up at the end of the turn.

Cheung drew a card for his turn and added 3 cards to his hand with the effect of a Ledger of Legerdemain he had previously activated. He switched his Token into Attack Position and then activated Creature Swap. Both Tokens switched sides of the field. Cheung moved to his Battle Phase and had his Wild Fire Token attack Syme’s Insect Monster Token. Syme took 900 points of damage and lost his Token, which then popped up on Cheung’s field again thanks to My Precious Queen. 

Syme drew Windstorm of Etaqua and activated Shrink on the Wild Fire Token. He Set 2 cards. Syme attacked the Wild Fire Token with Gearfried the Iron Knight.

Cheung drew a card, Normal Summoned Cyber Valley, and then activated Cyber Valley’s effect to draw 2 cards. He then Summoned a Token in his End Phase. 

Syme drew Blast With Chain, activated his Set copy of Blast With Chain to destroy the Insect Token, then attacked directly! During the End Phase, Cheung Summoned another Token. 

Cheung drew and activated Ledger of Legerdemain. He looked at the face-down cards and shook his head laughing. He Set 1 card and went to the End Phase by Summoning another Token. 

Syme drew Gearfried the Iron Knight and flipped over his Windstorm of Etaqua. He attacked the Token and knocked out Cheung’s Life Points!

We’re going to a 3rd and final Duel!

Duel 3

Time was called as both Duelists got ready to start the final Duel of the Match. They will each get 2 turns to try to gain Life Points or inflict damage and win it all! Syme started the final Duel and opened with Blast With Chain, Volcanic Rocket, and 2 Gearfried the Iron Knight. 

Syme Normal Summmoned Gearfried the Iron Knight, Set Blast With Chain, and ended his turn. An Insect Monster Token was summoned to Cheung’s field.

Cheung drew and activated the effect of Golden Ladybug in the Standby Phase, gaining 500 Life Points. He then activated Ledger of Legerdemain. Cheung Set 1 monster and Set 1 card in his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He then Summoned a Token to end his turn. Blast With Chain destroyed the Set Sphere Kuriboh. 

Syme drew Sphere Kuriboh and Normal Summoned Gearfried. He then attacked both Tokens and ended his turn.

Cheung activated the effect of Golden Ladybug to gain 500 Life Points and then Special Summoned Lava Golem to Syme’s field! He activated Creature Swap and then his attack was stopped by Sphere Kuriboh! But it didn’t matter. With the Match currently in overtime, Cheung had higher Life Points after all the turns were played out and wins the Speed Duel ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD!!

Alex Cheung wins the Speed Duel ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD!! and is going to take home a giant-sized copy of Evil HERO Malicious Fiend!
