Top 4 Feature Match: Jesse Kotton Versus Chris LeBlanc
Only a few Matches are left here in the Top Cut at YCS Vancouver, and the players duking it out need no introduction! Jesse Kotton and Chris LeBlanc are each fighting for their sixth Championship win! Kotton’s gone undefeated all weekend with his Unchained build, but LeBlanc’s hoping to take him down with his Purrely Deck!
Kotton won the roll and opted to start the Duel. He opened with Dark Contract with the Gate, Triple Tactics Talents, Unchained Twins – Sarama, and 2 copies of Unchained Twins – Aruha. Kotton Set a monster and activated Aruha’s effect to destroy it. The destroyed Sarama triggered in the Graveyard, but LeBlanc countered it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Kotton used Tactics next, revealing Pot of Prosperity, My Friend Purrely, Purrely Happy Memory, and Purrely Sleepy Memory in LeBlanc’s hand. He put the Prosperity back in LeBlanc’s Deck. Next, he activated Contract to add D/D/D Vice King Requiem to his hand. He placed it in the Pendulum Scale and used its effect to Special Summon it, then immediately Xyz Summoned D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex.
Machinex’s effect from Vice let Kotton destroy Aruha. The Aruha triggered to Special Summon Unchained Soul of Sharvara. He used Sharvara and Machinex to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama, triggering its effect as well as Sharvara’s: he Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained and added another Sharvara to his hand. Kotton used Sharvara to destroy Chamber and Special Summon it. Chamber triggered to Special Summon Unchained Soul of Shyama from the Deck, and Cotton Link Summoned Unchained Soul of Rage with Yama and Shyama. He used Shyama’s effect to destroy Rage and Special Summon it Shyama from the Graveyard. Rage’s effect triggered to get back Aruha, and Yama’s effect triggered to Special Summon Sarama. Next, Kotton Xyz Summoned D/D/D Wave High King Caesar. He set 1 backrow to finish out his turn.
LeBlanc activated My Friend Purrely, paying 500Life Points to reveal 3 copies of Purrely and add 1 to his hand. He Normal Summoned it, using its effect to get Purrely Pretty Memory. LeBlanc declared Purrely’s effect and Kotton chained Caesar’s ability to negate it, and destroy Purrely. LeBlanc chained Sleepy Memory and Happy Memory. Kotton let both cards resolve. LeBlanc Special Summoned Purrely and Purrelyly, triggering both of their effects. Purrely got him My Friend Purrely, and Purrleyly searched another copy of itself. Kotton activated Chamber to Special Summon Rage and immediately used its effect to Link with Purrelyly for Knightmare Unicorn. He used Unicorn to target Purrely and LeBlanc conceded.
LeBlanc opted to start and led with Purrely Pretty Memory to Special Summon Purrelyly. He activated its effect but Kotton countered it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. LeBlanc used Purrelyly to Xyz Summon Epurrely Beauty and Set 2 to his back row before passing turn.
Kotton was holding Unchained Twins – Sarama, Unchained Soul of Sharvara, Abominable Unchained Soul, Triple Tactics Thrust, and Escape of the Unchained. He Normal Summoned Sarama, but LeBlanc shut him down with Solemn Judgment! Kotton Set Escape to his back row and destroyed it to Special Summon Sharvara. The Escape’s effect triggered in the Graveyard and Abominable’s effect triggered in hand to Special Summon itself! The effect of Escape of the Unchained Special Summoned Unchained Twins – Rakea and Kotton entered the Battle Phase.
Kotton attacked Epurrely Beauty with Abominable Unchained Soul, but LeBlanc used it to negate Rakea’s effect. LeBlanc then used Book of Moon to flip Sharvara face-down, leaving Rakea to make a direct attack. In Main Phase 2, Kotton used Rakea and Abominable to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama; that got him Unchained Twins – Aruha. Kotton used Aruha to destroy his set Sharvara, triggering it to Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained from his Deck. He followed up with Triple Tactics Thrust for Dimensional Barrier and that was enough for LeBlanc to concede!
A clean victory over fellow 5-time Champion Chris LeBlanc leaves Jesse Kotton just 1 match away from another Championship title!
