Jeff Jones from Detroit, Michigan is a 2-time YCS Champion and a VIP Duelist this weekend. He earned that VIP status by previously winning an Ultimate Duelist Series event, which means he started this tournament with a 2-0 record. Now, he’s facing off against his first opponent of YCS Indianapolis here in Round 3. That opponent is Sebastien Libbrecht from Alaska! Libbrecht competed in the most recent WCQ, but has never played in a YCS before! Now he’s undefeated and facing off against a titan in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME world! Libbrecht is using a Vanquish Soul Deck, enhanced by new cards from the latest Age of Overlord booster set. Jones is using a Tearlaments Deck with S:P Little Knight added to the Extra Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Libbrecht Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and then activated Stake your Soul! and revealed Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand to Special Summon Vanquish Soul Razen from his Deck.

He used its effect to add Vanquish Soul Jiaolong to his hand. He then used Fenrir’s effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand. He used Razen’s effect by revealing a FIRE monster and then Special Summoned Jiaolong. Next, he revealed 2 FIRE monsters from his hand to use Jiaolong’s effect and add Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger by returning Razen to his hand and used its effect to reveal the DARK Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his hand and draw a card. Next, he Link Summoned Rock of the Vanquisher by sending Heavy Borger to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Mad Love with his Vanquisher’s effect. He added Vanquish Soul Snow Devil to his hand with Mad Love’s effect and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Jones opened up Duel 1 with Shaddoll Beast, Kashtira Fenrir, Primeval Planet Perlereino, Mudora the Sword Oracle, and Agido the Ancient Sentinel. He drew Tearlaments Scheiren for his turn and then Libbrecht used Jiaolong’s effect in the Draw Phase to reveal 2 FIRE monsters from his hand and add Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius from his Deck to his hand. Jones activated Primeval Planet Perlereino to add Tearlaments Kashtira to his hand and then Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir. He used Fenrir’s effect to add a Tearlaments Kashtira to his hand and then activated the effect of Scheiren in his hand to Special Summon it. He sent Tearlaments Kashtira from his hand to his Graveyard to do so and then sent Foolish Burial, Forbidden Droplet, and Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard to his Graveyard. Jones activated the effects of his Kelbek and Tearlaments Kashtira, and Libbrecht used his Fenrir’s effect to banish Scheiren face-down. Libbrecht sent 5 cards from his Deck to his Graveyard and Jones sent 7, including Polymerization,  Tearlaments Reinoheart, Keldo the Sacred Protector, and Night Sword Serpent. Jones used the effect of Kashtira Fenrir to try to banish Rock of the Vanquisher face-down, and Chained the effects of his Reinoheart and Night Sword Serpent to Summon them. Libbrecht Chained the effect of his Rock of the Vanquisher, Jones Chained the effect of Tearlaments Kashtira from his hand, and Libbrecht Chained There Can Be Only One! The Chain resolved, and Jones activated the effect of his Reinoheart after it was Summoned to the field; but Libbrecht Chained Ash Blossom from his hand to stop it! Jones combined Reinoheart and his Serpent to Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark, and Libbrecht flipped Vanquish Soul Snow Devil and revealed a DARK, EARTH, and FIRE monster! He destroyed all monsters on the field other than Vanquish Souls, Special Summoned Razen, and made it so his monsters couldn’t be destroyed by card effects. Jones also lost 1800 Life Points! Libbrecht used Razen’s effect to add Vanquish Soul Pantera from his Deck to his hand. Jones activated his Mudora’s effect by sending Agido to his Graveyard, then used Agido’s effect to send the top 5 cards of each Deck to the Graveyard. He sent Tearlaments Kashtira, King of the Swamp, Tearlaments Scream, Tearlaments Sulliek, and Primeval Planet Perlereino to his own Graveyard. He used Scream’s effect to add a Sulliek from his Deck to his hand and added a Tearlaments Merrli to his hand with the effect of his Sulliek. He Normal Summoned Merrli and used its effect to send Terraforming, Foolish Burial Goods, and Tearlaments Heartbeat from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Heartbeat’s effect to add Tearlaments Sulliek from his Graveyard to his hand. Jones banished Keldo from his Graveyard to return his Tearlaments Kashtira, Kelbek, and Agido to his Deck, and Libbrecht Chained the effect of Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius to target Jiaolong, return Jiaolong to his hand, and Special Summon Caesar Valius. Jones activated his Perlereino’s effect to try to destroy Merrli since a Tearlaments monster returned to his Deck, but Libbrecht Chained the effect of Caesar Valius, revealing a DARK, EARTH, and FIRE monster from his hand to destroy Perlereino. Jones Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy next. He used its effect to Special Summon Heavy Borger from Libbrecht’s Graveyard and activated its effect by revealing Shaddoll Beast from his hand to draw a card. Libbrecht Chained Mad Love’s effect to return Heavy Borger to the hand. Next, Libbrecht Special Summoned Heavy Borger by returning Caesar Valius to his hand. Jones finally conceded, completely out of plays.

Libbrecht shows off the awesome power of the Vanquish Soul Deck enhanced by two new cards from Age of Overlord – Vanquish Soul Jiaolong and Vanquish Soul Snow Devil – to win the first Duel!

Duel Two

Jones opened up Duel 2 with Primeval Planet Perlereino, Shaddoll Beast, Kashtira Fenrir, Agido the Ancient Sentinel, and King of the Swamp.

In Jones’s Draw Phase, Libbrecht activated the effect of the Dimension Shifter in his hand! Jones continued by activating Primeval Planet Perlereino and added Tearlaments Scheiren to his hand. He Special Summoned his Fenrir and activated its effect to add another Fenrir from his Deck to his hand. He activated Scheiren’s effect to Special Summon it by banishing Shaddoll Beast from his hand and then banished 3 more cards from the top of his Deck. He Normal Summoned King of the Swamp next, and banished it from his field along with Scheiren to Link Summon S:P Little Knight.

Libbrecht activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Vanquish Soul Razen to his hand and then activated Stake your Soul! by revealing Razen from his hand. He Special Summoned Jiaolong and then used Jiaolong’s effect by revealing 2 FIRE monsters from his hand – a Razen and another Jiaolong. He added a Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger from his Deck to his hand with Jiaolong’s effect. Jones activated Fenrir’s effect to target Jiaolong, and Libbrecht Chained the effect of Heavy Borger to Special Summon it and return the targeted Jiaolong to his hand. Jones Chained the effect of Little Knight to banish the Little Knight and his own Fenrir. Libbrecht Normal Summoned Razen and activated its effect to add Caesar Valius to his hand. He activated Heavy Borger’s effect by revealing an EARTH and FIRE monster and inflicted 1500 points of damage. That allowed him to Special Summon Jiaolong back from his hand in Attack Position. Direct attacks from Razen, Jiaolong, and Heavy Borger wiped out the rest of Jones’s Life Points!
