Round 7 Feature Match: Steven Gleason vs. Sathe Khaldi
Steven Gleason from Collingswood, New Jersey is Dueling against Sathe Khaldi from Rochester Hills, Michigan in this Round 7 Feature Match! Gleason is using a Rescue-ACE Sinful Spoils Deck, made possible by cards in the new Age of Overlord booster set. Khaldi is using a Swordsoul Tenyi strategy – a favorite among many Duelists. Both Duelists are currently 6-0 in this event, and they’re looking to keep their winning streaks in-tact. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Khaldi started off the first Duel by Special Summoning Tenyi Spirit – Shthana and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Monk of the Tenyi.
Next, he activated Vessel for the Dragon Cycle sending Tenyi Spirit – Ashuna to the Graveyard. He also added Tenyi Spirit – Adhara to his hand with its effect since he had Monk of the Tenyi on his field. He Special Summoned Adhara from his hand next, and then banished Ashuna from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tenyi Spirit – Vishuda. Next, he sent Vishuda and Adhara to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Baxia, Brightness of the Yang Zing. He used its effect to destroy his Monk and Special Summon Adhara. This prompted Gleason to Special Summon Nibiru, the Primal Being from his hand! Khaldi’s monsters were sent to the Graveyard and a Primal Being Token took their place. Next, Khaldi Normal Summoned Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous and Tributed it to Special Summon Swordsoul of Taia from his Deck. He activated Taia’s effect by banishing Monk of the Tenyi from his Graveyard and Special Summoned a Level 4 Swordsoul Token. He Tuned the Token with Taia to Synchro Summon Baxia, and used the effects of Baxia and Taia. He returned Nibiru to Gleason’s Deck and then used Taia’s effect to send Swordsoul of Mo Ye to his Graveyard from his Deck. He then used Baxia’s effect to destroy the Primal Being Token and Special Summon Mo Ye from his Graveyard. He activated its effect by revealing Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan from his hand and Special Summoned a Swordsoul Token. Next, he banished Adhara from his Graveyard to add Ashuna to his hand. He Special Summoned Longyuan from his hand by discarding the Ashuna and Special Summoned another Swordsoul Token. Next, he Synchro Summoned Swordsoul Sinister Sovereign -Qixing Longyuan. He inflicted 1200 points of damage with Longyuan’s effect. Next, he Tuned Mo Ye with a Swordsoul Token to Synchro Summon Swordsoul Grandmaster – Chixiao. He activated the effects of Chixiao, Mo Ye, and Qixing Longyuan in Chain to draw 2 cards and search his Deck for a Swordsoul Blackout to add to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row before passing his turn,.
Gleason drew Pot of Prosperity and added it to his hand of EMERGENCY!, EXTINGUISH!, Rescue-ACE Hydrant, and Nibiru, the Primal Being. He Normal Summoned Rescue-ACE Hydrant and activated its effect to add a monster from his Deck to his hand. Khaldi tried to negate its effect with Chixiao by banishing Taia from his Graveyard, and Gleason Chained EMERGENCY! from his hand to Special Summon Rescue-ACE Air Lifter and Tribute the Hydrant, allowing the Hydrant’s effect to resolve. He used Hydrant’s effect to add Rescue-ACE Turbulence to his hand and then used Air Lifter’s effect to add RESCUE! to his hand. He used RESCUE! to Special Summon Hydrant back from his Graveyard to his field and then Khaldi used his Qixing Longyuan’s effect to banish it and inflict 1200 points of damage to Gleason’s Life Points. Gleason Chained his Air Lifter’s effect to Special Summon Turbulence from his hand and then the effect of Qixing Longyuan resolved to banish the Hydrant and inflict the 1200 points of damage. Gleason activated his Turbulence’s effect next, and Khaldi Chained Forbidden Droplet and sent Vishuda from his hand to his Graveyard to negate the effect of Turbulence and halve its ATK. Next, Gleason activated Pot of Prosperity and banished 6 cards from his Extra Deck face-down to excavate the top 6 cards of his Deck and add a WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis next and used its effect to return Qixing Longuan to the Extra Deck by detaching an Xyz Material. Next, he attacked Baxia to destroy it in battle. Gleason Set EXTINGUISH! And Kahldi used Blackout to destroy Chixiao and both of Gleason’s on-field cards.
Khaldi Special Summoned Ashuna, used it to Link Summon Monk of the Tenyi, Special Summoned Vishuda from his hand, and then banished Ashuna from his Graveyard to use its effect and Special Summon Adhara from his Deck. He Tuned Adhara with Vishuda to Synchro Summon Chixiao and used Chixiao’s effect to add Swordsoul of Taia from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned the Taia and then Gleason activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being one again! Khaldi lost all of the monsters on his field and received a Primal Being Token with 5600 ATK and 2500 DEF in their place. He banished Adhara from his Graveyard to add a banished Swordsoul of Taia to his hand with Adhara’s effect and then banished Vishuda from his Graveyard to use its effect and return Nibiru to Gleason’s hand.
Gleason drew Infinite Impermanence and then used WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to add Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand. He Special Summoned it by discarding Nibiru and used its effect to add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye to his hand. He activated Snake-Eye to send his Diabellstar to the Graveyard and Special Summon a Hydrant. He used Hydrant’s effect to add Turbulence from his Deck to his hand, Special Summoned it, and then activated its effect. Before Gleason could Set 4 cards to his back row, Khaldi conceded.
Despite a strong opening by Khaldi, Gleason manages to win the first Duel with his Rescue-ACE Sinful Spoils Deck!
Duel Two
Khaldi started off Duel 2 by Special Summoning Ashuna from his hand with its effect and sending it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Monk of the Tenyi. Next, he activated Vessel for the Dragon Cycle. He Tuned Adhara with Baxia to Synchro Summon Chaofeng, Phantom of the Yang Zing. He Normal Summoned Swordsoul of Taia next, and activated its effect by banishing Monk of the Tenyi from his Graveyard to Special Summon a Swordsoul Token. He Tuned the Token with Taia to Synchro Summon Baxia and used Taia’s effect to send Swordsoul of Mo Ye from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Baxia’s effect to destroy Baxia and Special Summon Mo Ye, then used Mo Ye’s effect by revealing Longyuan to Special Summon a Token. He discarded Ashuna from his hand to Special Summon Longyuan along with another Token and then Tuned Longyuan with a Token to Synchro Summon Qixing Longyuan. He Tuned the other Token with Mo Ye to Synchro Summon Chixiao next. He activated the effects of Mo Ye, Chixiao, and Qixing Longyuan to add a Blackout to his hand and draw 2 cards. He Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.
Gleason opened up Duel 2 with Pot of Prosperity; CONTAIN!; Rescue-ACE Air Lifter; Rescue-ACE Preventer; and Hey, Trunade!.
He drew EMERGENCY! for his turn and activated Hey, Trunade! to return Khaldi’s face-down back row cards to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Air Lifter and used its effect to add RESCUE! to his hand. He activated Pot of Prosperity next, banishing 6 cards from his Extra Deck face-down to excavate the top 6 cards of his Deck and add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye to his hand. He activated it and sent his Air Lifter to the Graveyard to Special Summon a Hydrant from his Deck. He activated the Hydrant’s effect to add Rescue-ACE Turbulence from his Deck to his hand. Next, he banished Air Lifter from his Graveyard to Special Summon Rescue-ACE Preventer. He used Preventer’s effect to try to put Qixing Longyuan face-down, and when Khaldi Chained the effect of Chixiao to try to negate Preventer’s effect, Gleason Chained EMERGENCY! from his hand. Khaldi Chained the effect of his Qixing Longyuan to banish EMERGENCY! and inflict 1200 points of damage, but the EMERGENCY! still resolved. Gleason Special Summoned another Preventer from his Deck, sent his on-field Preventer to the Graveyard, and resolved the previously activated Preventer’s effect to put Qixing Longyuan face-down. Next, he Link Summoned Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze by sending Preventer and Air Lifter to the Graveyard, and Special Summoned Rescue-ACE Turbulence from his hand by banishing 2 Rescue-ACE cards from the Graveyard. He used its effect to Set EMERGENCY!, ALERT!, and EXTINGUISH! from his Deck with its effect. He activated EXTINGUISH! to destroy Chaofeng and then Link Summoned Linkuriboh. Next, he sent Linkuriboh and Hiita to the Graveyard to Link Summon Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians. He activated RESCUE! to Special Summon Preventer and then sent Selene and Turbulence to the Graveyard to Link Summon Accesscode Talker. He increased its ATK by 3000 with its effect, but when he entered his Battle Phase, Khaldi used Infinite Impermanence to reduce the ATK of Accesscode Talker. Since damage was halved due to the effect of Pot of Prosperity, direct attacks from both monsters dropped Khaldi down to 5450 Life Points. Gleason Set CONTAIN! and then ended his turn.
Khaldi drew a card and then Gleason added Turbulence back to his hand with ALERT!. Khaldi Special Summoned Vishuda and then Gleason used EMERGENCY! to Special Summon a Hydrant and sent Turbulence from his hand to his Graveyard. Khaldi activated the effect of Taia, but Gleason negated its effect with CONTAIN!. Khaldi Special Summoned Longyuan from his hand next by discarding Blackout and Special Summoned a Swordsoul Token. He banished Vishuda from his Graveyard to return Accesscode Talker to the Extra Deck and then Gleason conceded.
Khaldi ties up the Match and pushes it to a third and final Duel!
Duel Three
Gleason opened up Duel 3 with Hydrant, Nibiru, WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, EXTINGUISH!, and RESCUE!. He activated WANTED to add Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand and discarded EXTINGUISH! to Special Summon it. He used Diabellstar’s effect to add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eyes to his hand and activated it to Special Summon a Hydrant from his Deck and send Diabellstar to the Graveyard. He used Hydrant’s effect to add Air Lifter to his hand and then Summoned Air Lifter and used its effect to add EMERGENCY! to his hand. He Special Summoned Turbulence with EMERGENCY! and sent Air Lifter to the Graveyard and then used Turbulence’s effect to Set 4 cards to his back row from his Deck. He Special Summoned Preventer next and used the effect of WANTED to return the Snake-Eye from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw a card. He Set a fifth card to his back row and then passed his turn.
Khaldi activated Lightning Storm to destroy Gleason’s 5 back-row cards! Gleason Chained REINFORCE! Targeting Preventer to increase its ATK, and Khaldi Chained Forbidden Droplet and sent Lightning Storm to the Graveyard to negate the effect of Preventer and halve its ATK. All of Gleason’s Spells and Traps were destroyed! Khaldi Special Summoned Longyuan from his hand by discarding Adhara and then Tuned Longyuan with his Swordsoul Token to Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur. He used Longyuan’s effect to inflict 1200 points of damage to Gleason’s Life Points and then Summoned Ecclesia from his hand. He Tributed it to Special Summon a monster from his Deck, and when Gleason used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to try to negate the effect of Ecclesia, Khaldi used Barrone’s effect to negate it. Instead, Gleason used Nibiru to clear the field and give Khaldi a Primal Being Token. Khaldi pressed on by activating Vessel and time in the round was called! Up by 1200 Life Points, Khaldi was declared the winner of Duel 3!
