Round 9 Feature Match: Jose Marin vs. Jongwon Lee
We’re in the final Swiss Round for the first day of YCS Indianapolis! Jose Marin from Austell, Georgia and Jongwon Lee from Bloomington, Indiana both currently have 6-1-1 records, and now they’re facing off in our Round 9 Feature Match! Marin is using a HERO Deck and Lee is using a Kashtira Deck, so they’re both using rather unconventional strategies this weekend, but both still in contention for a Top Cut finish. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Lee started off Duel 1 by activating Pressured Planet Wraitsoth to add Kashtira Unicorn to his hand.
He Special Summoned it and activated its effect to add Kashtiratheosis to his hand. He activated it by targeting his Unicorn and Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir from his Deck. He used Fenrir’s effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand and then Special Summoned Riseheart from his hand with its effect. He Normal Summoned Blacking – Zephyros the Elite next and combined it with Riseheart to Xyz Summon Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir. All of his monsters switched into Defense Position by its effect and then he Set a card to his back row.
Marin opened up Duel 1 with Forbidden Droplet, Destiny HERO – Plasma, Favorite Contact, Miracle Fusion, and Vision HERO Faris. He drew Infinite Impermanence and activated it targeting Bagooska. Next, he Chained his own Droplet and sent the Infinite Impermanence on his field and the Favorite Contact in his hand to the Graveyard to negate the effects of Unicorn and Fenrir too, negating the effects of all of Lee’s monsters. Marin discarded Destiny HERO – Plasma from his hand to Special Summon Vision HERO Faris and activated its effect; but Lee flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate it. With only a Miracle Fusion in his hand, Marin conceded.

Duel Two
Marin opened up Duel 2 with Destiny HERO – Malicious, Destiny HERO – Plasma, Super Polymerization, Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier, and Elemental HERO Stratos.
In his Draw Phase, Lee activated the effect of Dimension Shifter from his hand. Marin Normal Summoned Stratos and activated its effect to add Vision HERO Faris to his hand. He Set Super Polymerization and then ended his turn.
Lee activated Wraitsoth and used its effect to add Kashtira Fenrir to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Fenrir and used its effect to add Kashtira Unicorn to his hand. He activated Kashtira Birth and then Normal Summoned Unicorn without Tribute thanks to Birth’s effect. He used Unicorn’s effect to add Kashtiratheosis to his hand and then activated the Kashtiratheosis targeting his Unicorn. Marin Chained Super Polymerization and discarded Plasma to fuse Stratos with Unicorn and Summon Mudragon of the Swamp. Lee returned Unicorn to his hand with his banished Kashtiratheosis’s effect. He banished Unicorn from his hand to Special Summon Scareclaw Kashtira in Defense Position. He attacked Mudragon with Fenrir, banishing the Mudragon face-down with Fenrir’s effect, and then attacked directly with Kashtira Fenrir and Scareclaw Kashtira, dropping Marin down to 2800 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Lee Special Summoned his banished Unicorn with the effect of his Birth and combined the Unicorn with Scareclaw Kashtira to Xyz Summon Kashtira Shangri-Ira. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.
Marin drew Favorite Contact and then Marin Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir from his Deck with the effect of Shangri-Ira in the Standby Phase. In the Main Phase, he discarded Destiny HERO – Malicious from his hand to Special Summon Vision HERO Faris and activated Faris’s effect. Lee Chained his Fenrir’s effect to banish Faris face-down, and then Marin placed Vision HERO Increase face-up in his Spell & Trap Card Zone from his Deck. Jongwon blocked a Main Monster Zone with the effect of Shangri-Ira and then Wraitsoth’s effect destroyed Vision HERO Increase. Next, Marin banished a Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another one from his Deck. He attacked Lee’s Defense Position Fenrir and lost 1900 Life Points. That allowed him to return Increase from his Graveyard to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. In Main Phase 2, he used Increase’s effect to Tribute Malicious and Special Summon Increase. Increase Special Summoned Vision HERO Vyon from his Deck, and he used Vyon’s effect to send Elemental HERO Shadow Mist to his Graveyard. He added Elemental HERO Stratos to his hand with the effect of Shadow Mist and then Lee activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird from his hand. He Normal Summoned Stratos and used its effect to destroy Lee’s face-down Evenly Matched and face-up Pressured Planet Wraitsoth. Marin Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.
Lee drew a card and then used his Shangri-Ira’s effect in the Standby Phase to Special Summon Kashtira Unicorn from his Deck. He used Fenrir’s effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand and then used his Unicorn’s effect to add Kashtiratheosis from his Deck to his hand. He switched his Fenrir into Attack Position and then used his Riseheart’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand. He activated Riseheart’s effect by banishing Fenrir from his Deck. He banished the top 3 cards of Marin’s Deck face-down and increased Riseheart’s Level to 7, plus blocked another Main Monster Zone with Shangri-Ira’s effect. Next, he combined Riseheart and Unicorn to Xyz Summon Dark Armed, the Dragon of Annihilation. He activated its effect targeting Marin’s face-down Favorite Contact and Marin Chained it. He returned a banished Malicious and Plasma to his Deck to Summon Destiny HERO – Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer. Next, Lee used the effect of Dark Armed again to target Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer for destruction. Marin Chained its effect to destroy the Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer and a Kashtira Birth. Lee used Fenrir’s effect to banish Increase face-down. Next, Lee used Triple Tactics Talent to return the card in Marin’s hand to his Deck. Lee combined Shangri-Ira and Dark Armed to Summon Number F0: Utopic Future, and then he Xyz Summoned Number F0: Utopic Draco Future over it.
An attack into Stratos with Utopic Draco Future wiped out Marin’s remaining Life Points!
