Only 2 Duelists remain in the Ultimate Time Wizard Tournament! The first of those Duelists is Oscar Zelaya from Dallas, Texas. Zelaya is a former YCS Champion who won YCS Austin back in 2013. The other is Rick Novak from Chicago, Illinois. These 2 Duelists are about to face off in a Match that will determine which Duelist takes home the GIANT Ultra Rare Rescue Cat! Both players put their trust in the HERO monsters, though Zelaya is using a variant that includes Frog cards, and Novak is using Deep Sea Diva. The Duelists will be playing under the rules and Forbidden & Limited List of the April 2010 Advanced Format, so this Match is sure to be a blast from the past! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Novak started off Duel 1 by drawing a card for his very first turn, as the rules in 2010 permitted. He Set a card to his back row and passed.

Zelaya opened up with Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, Reinforcement of the Army, Elemental HERO Neos Alius, Trap Dustshoot, Caius the Shadow Monarch, and Treeborn Frog.

He activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Elemental HERO Stratos to his hand and Normal Summoned it. He activated its effect to add Evil HERO Infernal Prodigy to his hand and then attacked directly with Stratos. Novak dropped to 6200 Life Points. Zelaya Set Trap Dustshoot and then ended his turn.

Novak Set 2 cards to his back row and in the End Phase Zelaya activated Trap Dustshoot, seeing nothing but Spells and Traps in Novak’s hand!

Zelaya drew Raigeki Break and then attacked with Stratos, losing his monster to Dimension Prison. He Set the Raigeki Break and passed.

Novak Set a card to his back row and passed.

Zelaya drew another Raigeki Break, Summoned Neos Alius, and attacked into another Dimension Prison.

Novak drew Deep Sea Diva and Summoned it. He activated its effect to Special Summon Spined Gillman and Synchro Summon Magical Android. He attacked directly, and Zelaya flipped Raigeki Break to destroy a face-down Bottomless Trap Hole on Novak’s field. He took 2400 points of damage from the attack and then Special Summoned Gorz along with an Emissary of Darkness Token!

Zelaya Special Summoned Treeborn Frog in his Standby Phase and Tributed it to Summon Caius, but lost out to Solemn Judgment as Novak dropped to 3400 Life Points. Gorz attacked and destroyed the Android, and then the Emissary of Darkness Token attacked directly, dropping Novak down to 700 Life Points.

Novak drew a card and then conceded on his next turn.

Duel Two

Novak started off Duel 2 by drawing a card and then using Reinforcement of the Army to add Stratos to his hand.

He Summoned it and used its effect to add Neos Alius to his hand. He Set a card to his back row and passed.

Zelaya opened up Duel 2 with Super Polymerization, E – Emergency Call, Smashing Ground, Upstart Goblin, and Swap Frog. He drew Miracle Fusion for his turn and then activated E – Emergency Call. He added Stratos to his hand and Summoned it, activating its effect. Novak Chained Bottomless Trap Hole to banish Stratos, and Zelaya added Elemental HERO Ocean to his hand with Stratos’s effect. Next, he discarded Elemental HERO Ocean to Special Summon Swap Frog and used Swap Frog’s effect to send another Swap Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Miracle Fusion to fuse the Ocean and Swap Frog in his Graveyard by banishing them, and Summoned Elemental HERO Absolute Zero! He attacked over Stratos with Absolute Zero and then attacked directly with Swap Frog to drop Novak down to 5800 Life Points. He returned Swap Frog to his hand with its effect, and then activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Novak 1000 Life Points.

Novak Summoned Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and attacked Absolute Zero! Grand Mole returned to the hand, and Absolute Zero returned to the Extra Deck! He Set a card to his back row and passed.

Zelaya drew Snowman Eater and then Summoned Swap Frog. He used its effect to send Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard and attacked directly. He returned Swap Frog to his hand and passed.

Novak Summoned Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and attacked directly.

Zelaya Normal Summoned Swap Frog again and used its effect to send another Frog to from his Deck to his Graveyard. He attacked directly, but lost his monster to Dimensional Prison.

Novak Normal Summoned Neos Alius and attacked directly. He Set a card to his back row and then passed his turn.

Zelaya drew a card and then returned Treeborn Frog to his field in his Standby Phase. He Normal Summoned Substitoad and used its effect to Tribute Treeborn Frog and Special Summon another Swap Frog from his Deck. He used the Swap Frog’s effect to send Substitoad to the Graveyard and then Novak flipped Gemini Spark, Tributing his Neos Alius to destroy Substitoad and draw a card. Zelaya Set Raigeki Break and returned his Frog to his hand before ending his turn.

Novak Summoned Deep Sea Diva and used its effect to Special Summon Spined Gillman. He Synchro Summoned Magical Android and attacked directly. He Set 3 cards to his back row and gained 600 Life Points in the End Phase.

Zelaya drew Gorz and then activated Raigeki Break to discard a card and destroy Novak’s face-down Dimensional Prison. He Special Summoned his Treeborn Frog in the Standby Phase and then Set Snowman Eater.

Novak Summoned Grand Mole and then activated Miracle Fusion to Fusion Summon Elemenatal HERO Absolute Zero! He attacked Zelaya’s face-down monster with Grand Mole and returned both monsters to the hand, and then attacked Treeborn with Magical Android to destroy it. A direct attack from Absolute Zero wiped out the rest of Zelaya’s Life Points!

The Match is moving on to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Zelaya chose to go first in Duel 3 and opened up with Reinforcement of the Army, Miracle Fusion, Caius the Shadow Monarch, Snowman Eater, and 2 copies of Upstart Goblin. He activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Stratos to his hand and then activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give 1000 Life Points to Novak. Next, he Summoned Stratos and used its effect to add Ocean to his hand. He discarded Ocean to Special Summon Swap Frog and used Swap Frog’s effect to send Treeborn Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. He returned Swap Frog to his hand by using its effect and then activated Upstart Goblin to draw Substitoad and give another 1000 Life Points to Novak.

Novak Special Summoned Cyber Dragon in Attack Position and then Normal Summoned Deep Sea Diva. He used Diva’s effect to Special Summon Gillman from his Deck. He Synchro Summoned Magical Android and then attacked Stratos with the Android to destroy it. Cyber Dragon attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, he used Future Fusion to send Diva and Neos Alius from his Deck to his Graveyard, hoping to Special Summon Absolute Zero in 2 turns. He gained 600 Life Points in the End Phase thanks to his Android’s effect and passed.

Zelaya drew Dust Tornado and then Special Summoned Treeborn Frog from his Graveyard. He Tributed the Frog to Summon Caius and banished Android from the field with Caius’s effect. Next, he banished Stratos and Ocean from his Graveyard with Miracle Fusion and Summoned Absolute Zero! Absolute Zero attacked and destroyed Cyber Dragon and then Caius attacked directly. Zelaya Set Dust Tornado and passed.

Novak Summoned Grand Mole and attacked Absolute Zero, returning Grand Mole to the hand and Absolute Zero to the Extra Deck. He Set a card to his back row but lost it to Dust Tornado in the End Phase.

Zelaya returned Treeborn Frog from his Graveyard to his field in his Standby Phase and then Summoned Substitoad. He used its effect to Tribute Treeborn Frog and Summoned Swap Frog. He used the Swap Frog’s effect to send a Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Tributed the newly Summoned Swap Frog for another one using Substitoad, and used that Swap Frog’s effect too. Next, he Tributed that Swap Frog with Substitoad’s effect to Special Summon Unifrog and then discarded Treeborn Frog from his hand to Special Summon Swap Frog. He attacked directly with all 4 monsters, dropping Novak down to 3900 Life Points. Unifrog destroyed Future Fusion with its effect. Zelaya returned Caius to his hand by activating the effect of his Swap Frog and then Tributed Swap Frog to Summon a Dupe Frog with Substitoad’s effect. Next, he Tributed the Substitoad itself with its effect to Summon another Dupe Frog. With two Dupe Frogs on Zelaya’s field, Novak would be unable to attack.

Novak drew a card and then Set a card to his back row.

Zelaya Special Summoned Treeborn Frog and then attacked directly with Unifrog. Novak used Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Dupe Frog to the hand and then lost 400 Life Points from the attack. Zelaya Normal Summoned Dupe Frog in Main Phase 2 and passed.

Novak Set 2 cards to his back row and then Normal Summoned Grand Mole.

Zelaya drew another Caius and then Tributed Treeborn Frog to try to Summon Caius; but Novak paid 1750 Life Points to negate its Summon with Solemn Judgment! In the Battle Phase, Unifrog tried attacking directly, but was banished by Dimensional Prison.

Novak Summoned Neos Alius and passed.

Zelaya drew a card and then returned Treeborn Frog to his field. He Tributed it for another Caius and banished Neos Alius with Caius’s effect. He activated Smashing Ground to destroy Grand Mole and then a direct attack from Caius wiped out the rest of Novak’s Life Points!

Oscar Zelaya is the Ultimate Time Wizard Tournament winner of the weekend and earned the right to take home the GIANT Rescue Cat!
