Round 3 Feature Match: Timothy Dinh vs. Zachary Vicenzi
We’re in Round 3 with another Feature Match! This time we have Timothy Dinh, from Rockville Maryland, piloting Mikanko! His Deck plays Sinful Spoils and Infernoble Knights to synergize with his Equip Spells.
His opponent is Zachary Vicenzi, from Waterbury, Connecticut. He’s brought a Spright Purrely Deck to the table. He’s able to put down the typical Purrely plays which don’t lock you into any specific Summons, then follow up with Sprights for more disruption. The Sprights can also make Rank 2 Xyz Monsters really easily, giving Vicenzi an alternate way to get his Purrely Extra Deck monsters into play.
Vicenzi won the dice roll and opted to play first in Duel 1. He started with Purrely Delicious Memory, Pot of Prosperity, My Friend Purrely, Stray Purrely Street, and Spright Starter. He put Street down first and followed with My Friend, revealing three copies of Purrely Sleepy Memory to get one to his hand. He played the Sleepy Memory and discarded Prosperity to Special Summon Purrelyly. Purrelyly’s effect got him a second My Friend, and he used Purrelyly’s effect with the Sleepy Memory in his Graveyard to Xyz Summon Epurrely Noir.
He played Delicious Memory, Chaining Noir’s effect to attach the Memory and Set Purrelyeap!? on the field. He used Spright Starter next to Special Summon Spright Blue. Blue’s effect searched for Spright Jet, and he Special Summoned Jet to get Spright Double Cross. Vicenzi used the Sprights to Link Summon Spright Sprind, which sent Nimble Angler to the Graveyard. Angler then Special Summoned two copies of Nimble Beaver. He used them to Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright in Defense Position. Gigantic Special Summoned Spright Carrot. He Set Double Cross. In the End Phase, Street attached another Sleepy Memory to Noir.
Dinh started his turn, and Vicenzi’s drew Purrelyly and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring with Noir, thanks to the two Sleepy Memories. Then Vicenzi used Purrelyeap!? to upgrade his Noir into Expurrely Noir, keeping the Xyz Materials. Since Expurrely Noir was now a new monster, Vicenzi used the Sleepy Memory effects again to draw his third Purrelyly and third Sleepy Memory.
Moving on, Dinh played Ken the Warrior Dragon, and Vicenzi used Double Cross to attach it to Gigantic Spright. Dinh played Mikanko Water Arabesque and attached it to Sprind. Vicenzi used Expurrely Noir to put Arabesque on the bottom of the Deck. He had a second copy of Arabesque, and attached that to Sprind too; Vicenzi used Noir once more. Dinh followed that play up with… a concession! Vicenzi’s opener was simply too much to handle, and he’d already burned through half of his hand making the attempt.
Dinh started the second Duel with WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in the Draw Phase, adding Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand. In the Main Phase he used Reinforcement of the Army to find Gen the Diamond Tiger. He Normal Summoned Gen and used its effect to Special Summon Ken the Warrior Dragon to Vicenzi’s side of the field. Ken’s effect triggered to let Dinh draw two cards and discard another copy of WANTED. He Special Summoned Diabellstar by sending Mikanko Reflection Rondo. Diabellstar’s effect Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He played it and sent Diabellstar to the Graveyard to Special Summon Fire Flint Lady.
He used Flint and Gen to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights, and used Isolde’s ability to get another Fire Flint Lady to his hand. This time Vicenzi chose to respond with Nibiru, the Primal Being, before Dinh could use Isolde’s other effect. Dinh lost all his monsters replacing them with a 2900/1550 Primal Being Token! Dinh pressed on, using Ohime the Manifested Mikanko’s effect to search for The Great Mikanko Ceremony, discarding Fire Flint Lady. He used the Ceremony to Special Summon Ohime, using its effect to equip Rondo from the Graveyard to Nibiru, stealing it. Then he used WANTED’s effect in the Graveyard, returning Snake-Eye to the Deck to draw a card.
Dinh played Mikanko Dance – Mayowashidori on Nibiru. Then he used Nibiru and the Primal Being Token to play Lyna the Light Charmer, Lustrous. Lyna stole Nibiru yet again, and he used both monsters to play S:P Little Knight! He banished Ceremony from his Graveyard to send Ha-Re the Sword Mikanko to the Graveyard, then used Mayowashidori to Special Summon Ha-Re and equip to it. Ha-Re got him Arabesque. He played Arabesque on Ha-Re, bounced it and banished it due to Mayowashidori, and Special Summoned Hu-Li the Jewel Mikanko. Hu-Li got him Mikanko Spiritwalk to his hand, and he Set two back row cards.
Vicenzi had Spright Blue, My Friend Purrely, Purrelyly, and Nimble Angler. He drew Nimble Beaver. He Normal Summoned Beaver and Special Summoned another Beaver from the Deck. He Special Summoned Blue, which got Jet, and he played Jet to get Starter. My Friend Purrely came down next, revealing three copies of Purrely Happy Memory to get one in his hand. He used the Beavers to Xyz Summon Epurrely Happiness. Then he used Blue and Jet for a second Happiness!
Happy Memory let him discard Nimble Angler to Special Summon Purrelyly. Purrelyly added Street to his hand, but Angler had nothing left to Special Summon. Vicenzi played Street, and Dinh had to respond now, while he could still target Vicenzi’s Purrely monsters. He Chained S:P Little Knight to banish a Happiness and the Little Knight, then Chained Spiritwalk to take the other Happiness and equip it to Hu-Li, dealing a bit of burn damage. Vicenzi used Purrelyly to play Relinquished Anima, pointing at Hu-Li, but Hu-Li couldn’t be targeted while equipped!
Vicenzi had to commit now, and played Spright Starter to Special Summon Spright Blue. He Linked that and Anima together to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, banishing Dinh’s other face-down card, a Book of Eclipse. In the End Phase, Ohime put Rondo on the field to steal S:P Little Knight. Then Dinh’s own S:P Little Knight and Vicenzi’s Happiness returned to the field. Since Ohime was Special Summoned by The Great Mikanko Ceremony, it was returned to the hand.
Dinh used Ohime’s effect to get Mikanko Kagura. He played Kagura to Ritual Summon Ohime, destroying My Friend and Street to dish out 2000 damage! Vicenzi saw the writing on the wall and conceded this Duel.
Vicenzi started the final Duel with a hand of Spright Blue, Happy Memory, Nimble Beaver, Purrely, and Purrelyly. He Normal Summoned Beaver to Special Summon Nimble Angler, then Special Summoned Spright Blue to find Spright Jet, and Jet came down to get Double Cross. Vicenzi used the two Nimbles to play Spright Sprind, which sent another Nimble Angler to the Graveyard.
Angler’s effect got Vicenzi’s second Beaver into play. He activated Happy Memory, protecting Sprind and discarding Purrely to Special Summon Purrelyly. That got him My Friend Purrely to his hand, and he used it to reveal three copies of Sleepy Memory to get one of them. He used Beaver and Sprind to play Gigantic Spright, then Blue and Jet to play Epurrely Noir. He used Purrelyly with Happy Memory to play Epurrely Happiness. Then he used Sleepy Memory, discarding Purrelyly to Special Summon Purrely. Purrely’s effect failed to get anything. He Set Double Cross, then used Gigantic to Special Summon Spright Carrot.
Dinh used WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in the Draw Phase, and Vicenzi used Carrot to negate it, Tributing Happiness. Dinh moved to the Main Phase and played Preparation of Rites, adding Ohime to his hand. He Normal Summoned Gen the Diamond Tiger, and Vicenzi flipped Double Cross to steal it, attaching it to Gigantic Spright. Dinh continued, using Ohime’s effect. He added The Great Mikanko Ceremony to his hand, discarding Triple Tactics Talent. He played Ceremony to Special Summon Ohime. Then he banished Ceremony from the Graveyard to send Arabesque to the Graveyard.
Ohime put Arabesque on the field attached to Gigantic. Then Dinh used Arabesque to bounce Gigantic and Special Summoned Ha-Re, re-equipping Arabesque to it. Ha-Re added Rondo to Dinh’s hand, and he used it to steal Epurrely Noir. Ohime and Ha-Re attacked Carrot, reflecting the damage back at Vicenzi, and Noir destroyed Purrely in battle. In Main Phase 2, Dinh used Noir to play Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder. He Set a back row card to finish out.
Play was to Vicenzi, who drew Nimble Angler for the turn. He used the effect of My Friend Purrely, revealing Delicious Memory and two copies of Happy Memory, getting the Delicious Memory. He Normal Summoned Nimble Angler and stacked it with Spright Carrot to Xyz Summon Epurrely Beauty. He used Beauty’s effect on ZEUS, and Dinh declined to activate it in response. Beauty attacked Ohime, and the damage was reflected. But before Vicenzi could play a ZEUS of his own, Dinh activated Ohime’s effect to equip Beauty with Mikanko Reflection Rondo, stealing it!
Vicenzi was left with nothing, and offered the handshake!
