Round 7 Feature Match: Haris Mirzada vs. Gilles Thomas

November 4th, 2023

This Round 7 Feature Match is going to be a banger! We have two Duelists with 5-1 records and Decks that truly stand out against the expected field. First up is Haris Mirzada, from nearby Bristow, Virginia. Mirzada’s using an Adventure Plunder Patroll Deck with Synchros, Xyz, and Links, while getting extra advantage from the Adventure engine’s tokens and interactions.

His opponent is Gilles Thomas, from not-so-nearby Paris, France! He’s using a Dinomorphia Exosister Deck, looking to make explosive plays that lock down the field and Graveyard at the cost of his own Life Points.

Gilles Thomas

Thomas won the dice roll and chose to play first. He started with Exosister Pax, paying 800 Life Points to search Exosister Elis. He then Special Summoned Exosister Martha, Special Summoning another Exosister Elis from his Deck. He played Fossil Dig to get Dinomorphia Therizia to his hand, Normal Summoned it, and used its effect Set Dinomorphia Sonic to the field. He stacked Martha and Elis for Exosister Mikailis, then Special Summoned Elis. At this point Mirzada activated Nibiru, the Primal Being! Thomas got a 4500 ATK / 2600 DEF Primal Being Token in Defense Position and Set another back row card to finish his turn.

Mirzada’s hand was Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, a second copy of Nibiru, and two copies of Water Enchantress of the Temple. He drew Forbidden Droplet. He banished Water Enchantress for its effect, and Thomas flipped Dinomorphia Frenzy, paying half his Life Points, only for Mirzada to negate it with Ash Blossom. The Water Enchantress resolved, and Mirzada added Rite of Aramesir to his hand.

He played the Rite to Special Summon an Adventurer Token and put Fateful Adventure on the field, then Special Summoned his second Water Enchantress, triggering Fateful Adventure to search Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon. He activated the second effect to search for a monster, and Thomas had his own Ash Blossom to shut it down. Mirzada equipped the Adventurer Token with Dracoback, used its effect to return Thomas’s Set Dinomorphia Sonic, and the Nibiru destroyed the Primal Being Token in battle. Mirzada made direct attacks with the Adventurer Token and Water Enchantress.

When Thomas saw his next card, he conceded! He didn’t have any way to fight back after losing everything to Nibiru, and paying half his Life Points for a card that got negated. The Duelists moved to their Side Decks and Mirzada would have a major advantage – he hadn’t revealed a single Plunder Patroll card yet! Thomas still had no idea what he was up against.

Mirzada takes the first Duel in just moments

Thomas opened the second Duel with Exosister Pax once again, searching for Exosister Martha. He Special Summoned Martha to bring Exosister Elis to the field. He used both monsters to play Exosister Kaspitell and detached Martha to search another Elis. He Normal Summoned Dinomorphia Therizia and used it to Set Dinomorphia Frenzy. He Special Summoned Elis next, and stacked it with Therezia for Exosister Mikailis. Mikailis’s effect got him Exosister Returnia to his hand and he Set two more back row cards. Then he stacked Mikailis and Kaspitell for Exosisters Magnifica to finish out.

Mirzada had a hand of Harpie’s Feather Duster, Wandering Gryphon Rider, Fateful Adventure, and 2 copies of Plunder Patroll Shipyarrrd. He drew Kashtira Fenrir, then started by activating Harpie’s Feather Duster. Thomas flipped Frenzy in response and paid half his Life Points to Fusion Summon Dinomorphia Kentregina! Then, Harpie’s Feather Duster destroyed Exosister Returnia and Infinite Impermanence. Thomas used Kentregina’s effect, copying Frenzy to Fusion Summon Dinomorphia Rexterm!

Mirzada played Shipyarrrd, and Thomas let out a shocked “whaaaaat?” upon seeing the first Plunder Patroll card of the Match. Mirzada used Shipyarrrd’s effect, discarding his second copy, but Thomas banished the Field Spell in response with Magnifica. Then, Thomas used Magnifica’s effect to tag out and bring Mikailis into play. Mirzada played Fateful Adventure and tried to search, but Mikailis banished it first. Mirzada had no way to punch through Thomas’s field, and decided to move to the third Duel.

Thomas takes the win in Game 2!

Mirzada chose to play first in the final Duel of the Match. This time he had Ash Blossom, Nibiru, Blackeyes, the Plunder Patroll Seaguide, Goldenhair, the Newest Plunder Patroll, and Dracoback. He Normal Summoned Goldenhair and Link Summoned Salamangreat Almiraj. He activated Blackeyes, returning Goldenhair to his hand to Special Summon Blackeyes. He Link Summoned Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain and passed.

Haris Mirzada

Thomas led with Infinite Impermanence to negate Blackbeard. He Normal Summoned Therezia, using its effect to Set Frenzy. He Set another back row card and passed.

Mirzada drew Bluebeard, the Plunder Patroll Shipwright, and tried using Blackbeard’s effect. That effect does a lot of things, but the list includes a single card draw, which meant Thomas could negate it with Ash Blossom! Mirzada Normal Summoned Goldenhair, Thomas flipped Frenzy, Mirzada used Ash Blossom, and Thomas flipped Called by the Grave to negate the Ash Blossom! Frenzy resolved, letting Thomas Fusion Summon Kentregina. Then he used Kentregina’s effect, copying Frenzy to Fusion Summon Rexterm. Thomas then used Rexterm’s effect, dropping to just 1000 Life Points.

Mirzada Special Summoned Bluebeard, tuning it with Goldenhair to Synchro Summon Adamancipator Risen – Dragite. Bluebeard’s effect let him discard Nibiru and draw Emblem of the Plunder Patroll. He sent Dragite to attack Rexterm, destroying both monsters. Rexterm’s effect revived one of its Fusion Materials, Dinomorphia Diplos. Diplos sent Frenzy to the Graveyard and burned Mirzada for 500 damage. Mirzada sent Dracoback to the Graveyard to Special Summon Goldenhair from the Graveyard in Defense Position.

On Thomas’s turn, Mirzada used Blackbeard’s effect with Goldenhair, Special Summoning Plunder Patrollship Moerk and equipping Goldenhair to it, then drawing Redbeard, the Plunder Patroll Matey. Moerk’s effect discarded Redbeard to banish Kentregina and add Shipyarrrd to his hand. Redbeard then equipped to Moerk. Thomas continued, using Triple Tactics Thrust to search for Pot of Avarice. He’d sent a ton of Fusion Materials to the Graveyard already, so Avarice let him put them back and draw two cards.

Thomas stacked Therizia and Diplos for Exosister Asophiel. Then he used Pax, dropping to just 200 Life Points to get Martha. He Special Summoned Martha and brought Elis into play. He used Asophiel to return Moerk to the Extra Deck. Then he stacked Martha and Elis for Mikailis, adding another copy of Pax to his hand. Mikailis then banished Blackbeard. Thomas overlaid Mikailis and Asophiel for Exosisters Magnifica. It attacked directly twice, dropping Mirzada to 2400 Life Points. Thomas finished his turn by Setting two back row cards.

Mirzada drew Forbidden Droplet. He Special Summoned Goldenhair from the Graveyard, ditching Shipyarrrd. Magnifica banished Goldenhair, and Mirzada was left defenseless! He offered the handshake!

Thomas closes out the Duel with Exosisters Magnifica!
