Round 9 Feature Match: Muhtasim Mallick vs. Gilles Thomas
This is it, the final Round of Swiss competition here in Day 1 of YCS Richmond! We liked Gilles Thomas’s Dinomorphia Exosister Deck so much, we brought him back for another Feature Match. If you missed it, you can see it in action winning our Round 7 Feature Match, where he took down Haris Mirzada’s Adventure Plunder Patroll Deck.
This time, he’s up against Muhtasim Mallick, a Long Island Duelist playing Purrely. This matchup could get interesting, since Purrely Pretty Memory can manipulate the Dinomorphia Duelist’s Life Points, but Purrely are also susceptible to a lot of the Exosister and Dinomorphia effects. There’s only one way to find out how it’ll go: It’s time to Duel!
Thomas opened the first Duel with Exosister Elis, Dinomorphia Therizia, Dinomorphia Frenzy, Triple Tactics Thrust, and Crossout Designator. He Normal Summoned Therizia and activated its effect. Mallick had Infinite Impermanence, and Thomas used Crossout Designator to banish his own Impermanence from the Deck, negating Mallick’s. Therizia’s effect Set Dinomorphia Sonic to the field. Thomas Set Frenzy and passed.
Mallick Normal Summoned Purrelyly, and Thomas Chained Frenzy. He Fusion Summoned Dinomorphia Kentregina, sending Dinomorphia Diplos and Dinomorphia Rexterm as the Fusion Materials. Purrelyly’s effect let Mallick search Stray Purrely Street. Thomas used Kentregina to copy Frenzy’s effect, sending Therizia and another Kentregina to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Rexterm.
Mallick activated My Friend Purrely, and Thomas flipped Dinomorphia Sonic. He dropped to 1000 Life Points to negate and destroy My Friend, and destroyed Kentregina as well. Kentregina’s effect Special Summoned Therizia, which Set Dinomorphia Brute on the field. Mallick then played a second My Friend Purrely, much to Thomas’ dismay. He used its effect, paying 500 Life Points to reveal 2 copies of Purrely Pretty Memory and a Purrely Happy Memory, adding one of them to his hand. He played Stray Purrely Street, then Pretty Memory. Each player gained 1000 Life Points, helping Mallick play through Rexterm!
He continued resolving the Pretty Memory, discarding Purrely Sleepy Memory to Special Summon Purrely. Thomas used Rexterm’s effect, paying back down to 1000 Life Points to put Mallick’s monsters to 1000 ATK, preventing them from activating their effects. Purrely’s on-Summon effect had already activated and would still resolve, but it failed to excavate any Purrely cards. Mallick used Purrely to Link Summon Relinquished Anima, pointing at Rexterm! It absorbed Thomas’s monster, gaining its ATK and turning off the effect! He then used Purrelyly’s effect with the Sleepy Memory in his Graveyard to Xyz Summon Epurrely Noir.
Mallick played another Pretty Memory, and Chained Noir’s effect to attach the Memory and Set Purrelyeap!? to the field. Pretty Memory resolved, giving each player another 1000 Life Points. Mallick used Noir’s effect via Pretty Memory, attaching the Set Dinomorphia Brute by sending the equipped Rexterm to the Graveyard. He sent Noir attacking into Therizia, destroying his own monster. My Friend and Street triggered. Mallick put Sleepy and Pretty in his hand with My Friend, and Special Summoned Purrely with Street. Purrely’s effect once again failed to excavate anything.
In Main Phase 2, Mallick used Purrely’s effect with the Pretty Memory in his hand to Xyz Summon Epurrely Beauty. Beauty’s effect via Pretty Memory let him send Relinquished Anima to the Graveyard, attaching Therizia. Mallick then played Sleepy Memory, and Chained Beauty to attach it as a material. In the End Phase, Street put another Sleepy Memory under Beauty.
Thomas drew Infinite Impermanence. In the Standby Phase, Beauty’s effects from Sleepy Memories let Mallick draw two cards. Then he used Purrelyeap!? to upgrade Beauty into Expurrely Noir, which used both Sleepy Memories to draw two more cards. Thomas moved to the Main Phase and played Triple Tactics Thrust, searching Pot of Avarice. He played Avarice with exactly five monsters in the Graveyard, to draw Exosister Martha and Dinomorphia Frenzy. He Normal Summoned Exosister Elis, and Mallick used Noir’s effect to put Elis on the bottom of the Deck. Thomas Set Impermanence and Frenzy. In the End Phase, Stray Purrely Street attached a Happy Memory. Mallick started to take his turn, but Thomas knew it was over at this point and conceded.
Duel 2Thomas started the second Duel with a hand of Harpie’s Feather Duster, Diplos, Elis, Impermanence, and Called by the Grave. He Normal Summoned Diplos and sent Therizia to the Graveyard. He Set Impermanence and Called by the Grave.
Mallick also had Harpie’s Feather Duster! He Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir, attacking and banishing Diplos face-down. That triggered a replay, and Fenrir made a direct attack. Mallick Set one card to his back row.
Thomas drew Fossil Dig. He played Harpie’s Feather Duster to destroy Mallick’s Infinite Impermanence. He played Fossil Dig, but Mallick had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, not letting Thomas gain any ground whatsoever!
Mallick Normal Summoned Purrelyly, adding My Friend Purrely to his hand. He used it’d to reveal three copies of Sleepy Memory, adding one of them to his hand. He played Sleepy Memory, discarding a spare Fenrir to Special Summon Purrely. Purrely’s effect failed for the third time this Match. He used Purrelyly and Sleepy Memory to Xyz Summon Epurrely Noir. He attacked with everything, dropping Thomas to 2100 Life Points. He Set one card in his back row.
Thomas drew Dinomorphia Frenzy. Mallick drew a card through his Sleepy Memory, then used Purrelyeap!? to upgrade Epurrely Noir into Expurrely Noir, drawing another card with Sleepy Memory. Thomas Normal Summoned Elis, sending it to destroy Purrely in battle. In Main Phase 2 he Set Frenzy, but Noir put it on the bottom of the Deck, leaving Thomas with only Elis.
Mallick sent Fenrir to attack and banish Elis, leaving Thomas wide open to a direct attack!
Muhtasim Mallick comes out ahead with Purrely!
