Round 1 Feature Match: Jeffrey Leonard (Team OneMorePiece) Versus Aleksander Roytburd (Team Droll No Lock)

February 24th, 2024

Welcome to TEAM YCS Las Vegas! To kick things off, we have Aleksander Roytburd representing Team Droll No Lock with his Snake-Eyes Fire King Deck, featuring several new cards from Phantom Nightmare. He’s playing against Jeffrey Leonard of Team OneMorePiece, who chose to forgo the beloved Exodia the Forbidden One strategy he piloted in a spectacular feature match at YCS Indianapolis last year, for a Deck with Naturia and P.U.N.K. cards instead, aiming to end the game quickly with the effect of Phantasmal Lord Ultimitl Bishbaalkin.

With two fast-paced strategies set to clash, who will be able to take a win in the first round of TEAM YCS Las Vegas? Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel!

Leonard and Team OneMorePiece

Roytburd chose to start the first Duel, and looked down at an opening hand of Fire King Island, Fire King High Avatar Kirin, Effect Veiler, Effect Veiler, and Droll & Lock Bird. He started by activating Fire King Island, activating its effect and destroying an Effect Veiler in hand and searching for Sacred Fire King Garunix from his Deck. He then activated the effect of his Fire King High Avatar Kirin in hand, destroying the searched Garunix and Summoning it to his side of the Field. He then ended his turn.

Leonard drew for turn and started by activating the effect of Noh-P.U.N.K. Ogre Dance, discarding it from his hand to search for Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin. On the resolution of Ogre Dance’s effect, however, Roytburd used Droll & Lock Bird to prevent Leonard from searching for the rest of the turn! With no other plays available, Leonard ended his turn.

Roytburd from Team Droll No Lock

Roytburd drew a Bonfire for turn. He started by Normal Summoning Snake-Eye Ash, and activated its effect, searching for a Snake-Eyes Poplar. He then used Poplar’s effect to summon itself to the Field, and then activated its effect to search for Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He used Poplar as a material to Link Summon Linkuriboh, then used Poplar’s effect in the Graveyard to place itself in the Spell/Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card. Next, he activated the Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye, sending Poplar to the Graveyard and Summoning Snake-Eye Oak from the Deck. He activated Oak’s effect to Special Summon Poplar back from the Graveyard, and then Tributed Oak and Poplar to Special Summon a  Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon from the Deck! He then used Linkuriboh and Snake-Eye Ash to Link Summon Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy, and used Dharc’s effect to Special Summon Leonard’s Noh-P.U.N.K. Ogre Dance! Looking across at a field full of monsters, Leonard conceded Duel 1!

Roytburd swarms the Field with monsters to win the first Duel!

Leonard chose to go first in the second Duel, and started off by Normal Summoning Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin, and activated its effect, paying 600 Life Points to search for Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune. However, Roytburd activated Droll & Lock Bird from his hand, just like in the first Duel! Leonard decided to end his turn.

The remaining cards in Roytburd’s hand were Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye, Snake-Eyes Poplar, Diabellstar the Black Witch, and Bonfire. He drew a second Snake-Eyes Poplar for turn, and started off by Normal Summoning Poplar to search for Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye. He activated Temple to place Snake-Eye Ash in the Spell/Trap Zone, used Poplar to Link Summon Relinquished Anima, and activated Poplar’s effect in the Graveyard to place it in the Spell/Trap Zone, as well!! Roytburd then activated Anima’s effect, equipping it with Leonard’s Ze Amin.

Next, Roytburd activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye, sending Poplar to the Graveyard, but Leonard responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Roytburd discarded the other Snake-Eyes Poplar in his hand to Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch, and activated its effect to Set a WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils from his Deck. He then Link Summoned Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze using Diabellstar and Anima as Link Materials, and activated the effect of Hiita to Special Summon the Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from Leonard’s Graveyard. Next, he used Hiita and Ash to make Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames! Finally, he activated Princess’ effect to Special Summon Hiita, and attacked Leonard’s Life Points directly with Princess and Hiita, leaving Leonard with only 2850 Life Points. Finally, Roytburd used the Princess and Hiita to Link Summon Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale, and then ended his turn.

Leonard drew for turn and started by activating the effect of Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune, discarding it and a Naturia Mole Cricket to Special Summon Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin from his Deck. Before he could activate its effect, Roytburd activated the effect of  Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames from his Graveyard, destroying Leonard’s Ze Amin and his own Amblowhale, and Special Summoning the Princess from the Graveyard. As follow up, Leonard activated Emergency Teleport from his hand, and Roytburd chose to respond by activating the set WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils. Roytburd added Diabellstar the Black Witch from the Graveyard back to his hand, while Leonard Special Summoned a third Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin from his Deck!

This time, Leonard was able to activate and resolve Ze Amin’s effect, searching for Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Sharakusai! He Normal Summoned Sharakusai, and activated its effect, Fusing Ze Amin and Sharakusai to Fusion Summon Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Rising Carp! However, it was here that Leonard realized he had all 3 of his Ze Amin and his sole Sharakusai in the Graveyard, and so he was unable to activate Rising Carp’s effect. With no way to proceed with his game plan of Special Summoning Phantasmal Lord Ultimitl Bishbaalkin, Leonard conceded.

Unable to use the effect of Rising Carp, Leonard conceded Duel Two.

With their Duel finished, the two cheered on their teammates. Roytburd’s teammates were also able to win their respective matches, and so Team Droll No Lock starts off TEAM YCS Las Vegas with a 1-0 record!
