Round 4 Feature Match: Roberto Barajas (Team Los Tres Mojados) Versus Rennick Bruno (Team RGB)
Welcome to Round 4! In this matchup, we have two teams that each have a 2-1 record, each of them hopeful to make Day 2 here at TEAM YCS Las Vegas. Both players are playing the new Snake-Eye cards from Phantom Nightmare, but each player has chosen to combine the cards with a different strategy. Who will come out on top? Let’s find out!!
Bruno chose to start the first Duel, and looked down at an opening hand of Legendary Fire King Ponix, Fire King High Avatar Kirin, Snake-Eye Ash, WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, and Effect Veiler. He started by Normal Summoning Ash, searching for Snake-Eyes Poplar. He activated Poplar’s effect in hand to Special Summon it, then used it to search for Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye. Next, he activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to search for Diabellstar the Black Witch. He Special Summoned Diabellstar by sending Poplar to the Graveyard, and used Diabellstar to Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from the Deck.
Next, Bruno activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye, sending Diabellstar to the Graveyard to Special Summon Legendary Fire King Ponix from his hand. He used its effect on summon to search for Fire King Sanctuary, activated Sanctuary to place Fire King Island from his Deck to his Field Spell Zone, and then activated the effect of Snake-Eye Ash, sending Ash and Sanctuary to the Graveyard to Special Summon Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon from his Deck. He then activated the effect of Fire King Island, destroying his Ponix to search for Sacred Fire King Garunix.
Bruno activated Garunix’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand, then triggered its effect on Summon to destroy Fire King Avatar Arvata from his Deck. He triggered Arvata’s effect to Special Summon Ponix out of the Graveyard, then Linked Garunix and Ponix to Link Summon I:P Masquerena. He used Masquerena and Flamberge Dragon to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames. Flamberge Dragon’s effect let him Special Summon Poplar and Ash out of the Graveyard, but Barajas chose that moment to activate Nibiru the Primal Being in his hand!
Hoping for some sort of follow-up, Bruno used the effect of his WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in the Graveyard to return Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye to the bottom of his Deck and draw a copy of Snake-Eye Ash. Finally, he activated Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye, triggering the mandatory effect of Fire King Island in the process. Divine Temple placed Snake-Eye Oak in the Spell/Trap Zone, while Fire King Island destroyed the Nibiru Token that was still on his field. Bruno ended his turn.
Barajas drew a card for turn, and started by activating Bonfire, searching for Centur-Ion Trudea. Next, he activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his hand, sending his face-up Nibiru the Primal Being to the Graveyard to Special Summon Snake-Eye Ash from his Deck. He activated the effect of Ash as Chain Link 1, and Bruno used the effect of his Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye as Chain Link 2, allowing him to Special Summon Snake-Eye Oak while Barajas resolved Ash by searching for Snake-Eyes Poplar. Barajas then used Poplar as Chain Link 1, and Bruno used Oak’s effect as Chain Link 2, with Bruno Special Summoning Snake-Eye Ash out of the Graveyard while Barajas Special Summoned Snake-Eyes Poplar.
Barajas chose not to activate the effect of Poplar, but Bruno was still able to activate Ash’s effect to search for Snake-Eyes Poplar, which he Special Summoned and used to search for Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He activated the effect of his Promethean Princess in the same Chain, Bestower of Flames in the Graveyard, destroying his own Snake-Eye Oak and his opponent’s Snake-Eye Ash, Summoning his Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames back onto the Field!
Barajas then Normal Summoned Centur-Ion Trudea, and activated its effect, but Bruno responded with Effect Veiler, negating the Trudea’s effect. He then used the Poplar as a material to Link Summon Linkuriboh, and activated Poplar’s effect to place it in the Spell/Trap Zone. Barajas used Linkuriboh and Trudea to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, targeting and banishing Bruno’s Promethean Princess! He then entered the Battle Phase, declaring an attack on Bruno’s Snake-Eye Ash with S:P Little Knight, but forgot that Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye increased the Attack Points of all Level 1 Fire monsters by 1100, so S:P Little Knight was destroyed by battle. Without any other plays to make, Barajas ended his turn.
Bruno drew WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils for his turn, and activated it in the Draw Phase, searching for Diabellstar the Black Witch. He Normal Summoned Snake-Eye Ash, searching for Snake-Eye Birch. He then activated the effect of his Fire King High Avatar Kirin in hand, destroying Birch and Summoning Kirin. That let Bruno activate the effect of his Sacred Fire King Garunix in the Graveyard, Special Summoning it onto his side of the Field, and using its effect to destroy a copy of Fire King High Avatar Kirin from his Deck. Bruno then entered the Battle Phase and attacked Barajas’s Life Points directly, winning Duel 1!
To start the second Duel, Barajas activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in the Draw Phase, searching his Deck for Diabellstar the Black Witch. He then Special Summoned Diabellstar by discarding Snake-Eye Ash, used Diabellstar to Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his Deck, and then activated Original to send Diabellstar to the Graveyard and Summon Snake-Eye Ash from his Deck. He activated Ash’s effect, searching for Snake-Eyes Poplar, then Summoned the Poplar and searched for another Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He used Poplar to Link Summon Linkuriboh, and used Poplar’s effect to place it in the Spell/Trap Zone. Next, he activated the effect of Snake-Eye Ash, sending it and Poplar to Special Summon Snake-Eye Oak from his Deck. He used Oak to revive Snake-Eye Ash, and then used Oak’s effect, sending it and Linkuriboh to Special Summon Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon from the Deck!
Barajas used Flamberge Dragon and Linkuriboh to Link Summon I:P Masquerena, and used the Flamberge Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Snake-Eye Ash and Snake-Eye Oak out of the Graveyard. I:P and Ash were then used to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames! He activated the effect of Promethean Princess to place I:P Masquerena in the Spell/Trap Zone, used the Promethean Princess to Special Summon back Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon, and then used the Promethean Princess and Snake-Eye Oak to make Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale!
Next, Barajas activated the effect of his WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in the Graveyard, banishing it and placing Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye to the bottom of his Deck to draw a card. Barajas Normal Summoned Centur-Ion Primera and activated its effect to search for Stand-Up Centur-Ion! He activated the Stand-Up, and discarded an Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye to place Centur-Ion Trudea to his Spell/Trap Zone. Barajas activated Trudea’s effect, Special Summoning it and making it a Level 8 monster. However, Bruno chose now to finally activate Nibiru the Primal Being! Barajas was left with an 8200 Attack Point, 6100 Defense Point Nibiru Token, but was unable to extend his plays any further. He Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
In his hand, Bruno was left with Legendary Fire King Ponix, Snake-Eyes Poplar, Fire King Avatar Arvata, and Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye, and then drew a copy of Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye for turn. He Normal Summoned Legendary Fire King Ponix, and activated its effect to search directly for Fire King Island. He activated the effect of Island, destroying his Fire King Avatar Arvata in hand to search for Sacred Fire King Garunix from his Deck. He Special Summoned the Garunix and attempted to activate its effect, but Barajas responded with Effect Veiler! Bruno used Ponix to Link Summon Linkuriboh, and then used Garunix and Nibiru to Link Summon a Knightmare Phoenix directly underneath the Linkuriboh. He activated the Phoenix’s effect, discarding Snake-Eyes Poplar to destroy Barajas’s Set card, and also activated Poplar’s effect to place Fire King Avatar Arvata in the Spell/Trap Zone.
Bruno used Linkuriboh and Knightmare Phoenix to Link Summon Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze, and used Hiita’s effect to Special Summon Snake-Eye Ash from his opponent’s Graveyard. He used Ash’s effect to search for Snake-Eye Birch. Next, he activated Ash’s effect, sending itself and Arvata to the Graveyard to Special Summon Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon. He then Special Summoned Snake-Eye Birch, and used Hiita and Birch to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames! He activated the Promethean Princess’ effect to Special Summon Fire King Avatar Arvata, then used Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames and Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix! Bruno activated Flamberge Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Poplar and Birch from the Graveyard.
Bruno then used Raging Phoenix as a material to Link Summon Worldsea Dragon Zealantis, banishing all monsters on the Field. Bruno was able to Special Summon all four of his monsters back, but couldn’t Special Summon the Nibiru Token back onto Barajas’s Field. Bruno then activated the effect of Linkuriboh in the Graveyard, tributing Birch to Special Summon it back to the Field, and then used Linkuriboh and Poplar to Link Summon Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy. He then activated Dharc’s effect, Special Summoning Diabellstar the Black Witch from his opponent’s Graveyard. With several big monsters on the field, Barajas conceded the second Duel.
Bruno’s teammates were also able to win their respective matches, and Team RGB will be advancing to the next round with a 3-1 record!
