Round 5 Feature Match: Ryan Murakami vs. Aaron Furman

February 17th, 2024

Ryan Murakami from Torrence, California won a UDS Invitational in Los Angeles with his Kozmo Deck several years ago, earning him a chance to compete in this weekend’s prestigious tournament. Now he’s facing off against Aaron Furman from Sherwood Forest, California in this Round 5 Feature Match. Furman won a UDS Invitational in Chicago to earn his spot in this weekend’s Undisputed UDS Championship Tournament. Both Murakami and Furman took their respective UDS Invitational victories in 2016, and never could have imagined that their victories 8 years ago would earn them an invitation to Konami’s headquarters this weekend. Now, they’re Dueling against one another in a Match that will be crucial to win in order to maintain hope for a Top Cut finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Furman started off the first Duel, but Murakami played the first card by activating the effect of Dimension Shifter in his Standby Phase. Furman just Normal Summoned Fire King Avatar Arvata and passed his turn under the effect of Dimension Shifter.

Murakami opened up Duel 1 with Dimension Shifter, Evenly matched, Floowandereeze and Robina, Floowandereeze & Elgan, and Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map.

Ryan Murakami

He drew Floowandereeze & Stri for his turn and then activated the Magnificent Map. He activated its effect by revealing Eglen from his hand, banished Floowandereeze & Toccan from his Deck, and then Normal Summoned Eglen. He activated the effects of Eglen and Toccan as Chain Links 1 and 2 respectively, returning Toccan to his hand from the banished zone and adding Floowandereeze & Empen to his hand with the effect of Eglen. He Normal Summoned Stri next, and used its effect to try to banish Dimension Shifter from his Graveyard; but Furman Chained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to negate its effect. Next, Murakami Tributed his 2 monsters to Summon Empen and activated the effects of Empen and his banished Eglen as Chain Links 1 and 2 respectively. Furman negated Eglen’s effect with Arvata by banishing Fire King High Avatar Kirin from his hand, and Murakami added Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town to his hand with Empen’s effect. He Normal Summoned Robina next, and Furman conceded.

Ryan Murakami takes an immediate victory in Duel 1 thanks to Dimension Shifter!

Duel Two

Furman started off Duel 2, but once again Murkami activated the first card effect by activating the effect of Dimension Shifter in Furman’s Standby Phase. Furman Chained WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to add Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand.

Aaron Furman

In his Main Phase, Furman Set a card to his back row and passed his turn.

He activated a Prosperity and banished 6 cards from his Extra Deck to excavate the top 6 cards of his Deck and add Floowandereeze and the Advent of Adventure to his hand. He activated Map and used its effect to reveal Eglen from his hand and banish Robina from his Deck. He Summoned Eglen and activated the effects of Eglen and Robina. He added Robina to his hand and resolved Eglen’s effect. He Normal Summoned the Robina next and used its effect to add Floowandereeze & Toccan to his hand. He Tributed his 2 Floowandereeze monsters to Summon Floowandereeze & Empen from his hand and then used the effects of Empen and Robina. He Chained Advent of Adventure by banishing Empen. He added Stri to his hand with the effect of Advent of Adventure before gaining 500 Life Points, added Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town to his hand with the effect of Empen, and then added Robina to his hand by its own effect. He activated Dimensional Fissure and Set Dreaming Town to his back row before ending his turn.

Furman activated Bonfire to add Snake-Eye Ash to his hand and then Normal Summoned it and activated its effect. Murakami Chained the effect of his Map. Murakami Tribute Summoned it and then Furman added Divine Temple to his hand with Poplar’s effect. Murakami flipped Dreaming Town next! He Normal Summoned Toccan and used its effect by targeting Empen, returning the Empen to his hand. He Normal Summoned Robina next, and after a few more plays, he Tribute Summoned Empen! He activated its effect and also used the effect of the Dreaming Town in his Graveyard to put all of Furman’s monsters face-down. He added Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds to his hand with Empen’s effect. Next, Furman activated Divine Temple and used its effect to put Snake-Eye Ash into his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye and sent Divine Temple to the Graveyard to Special Summon Legendary Fire King Ponix. He used Ponix’s effect to add Fire King Sanctuary to his hand. He activated the Sanctuary to place Fire King Island from his Deck onto his field and then used the Island’s effect to destroy his Snake-Eye Ash and add Sacred Fire King Garunix to his hand. He activated Garunix’s effect to Special Summon it and then used the effect of the WANTED in his Graveyard to banish it, return an Original Sinful Spoils to his Deck, and draw a card. Garunix attacked Mist Valley Apex Avian, destroying both monsters in battle, and then Furman sent his Sanctuary to the Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar from his hand in Attack Position in Main Phase 2. Furman subsequently conceded, seeing no way to recover from the Dimensional Fissure that he couldn’t remove from the field.
