Round 8 Feature Match: Omar Bsiso (Team Hooked on Ponix) vs. Elijah Quinby (Team Scythecord)
Welcome to Round 8! This is the final Swiss round for today, and we have a Match that shows how much of the tournament has been going – two Snake-Eye variants! Omar Bsiso is here for Team Hooked on Ponix. This Tennessee Duelist is using a pure Snake-Eye build. His opponent is Elijah Quinby, of Team Scythecord. Here’s here from Seattle, Washington, playing a Fire King Snake-Eye Deck. While both Decks will share a lot of cards, this Match will show the nuance between each version.
Duel 1
Bsiso won the dice roll, choosing to go first. Quinby said that this marked his eight lost dice roll today. Rough!
Bsiso began with One for One, discarding Diabellstar the Black Witch to Special Summon Snake-Eye Ash. Ash added Snake-Eyes Poplar to his hand, and he Special Summoned it. Poplar added Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye to his hand, and he activated it to place Snake-Eye Oak in his back row. Ash then sent itself and Oak to the Graveyard to Special Summon Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon. He used Flamberge and Poplar to Link Summon I:P Masquerena. Poplar placed Flamberge in the back row, and Flamberge Special Summoned Oak and Poplar. Oak then Special Summoned Ash. He used I:P Masquerena and Ash to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames. Princess revived Ash, and he used both to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf. He used WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to search for a Diabellstar. Then he used Poplar to Link Summon Linkuriboh, triggering Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf to add Snake-Eye Ash to his hand. He used Wolf and Linkuriboh to Link Summon Decode Talker Heatsoul. He Special Summoned Diabellstar by sending Ash to the Graveyard. At this point Quinby used the Infinite Impermanence he’d been saving to negate Diabellstar. Bsiso used Oak, sending itself and Diabellstar to the Graveyard to Special Summon a new Flamberge. He used Flamberge to put I:P Masquerena in his back row. He then used Heatsoul, paying 1000 Life Points to draw a card. He Set one card in his back row to finish this phenomenal opener.
Quinby had a hand of Fire King Sanctuary, Bonfire, Fire King High Avatar Kirin, and Snake-Eye Oak. He drew WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils for his turn. In the Draw Phase, Bsiso used Heatsoul to draw another card. Quinby moved to his Main Phase and activated Bonfire, adding Poplar to his hand. He activated Poplar’s effect in the hand, and Bsiso responded with Crossout Designator! He banished a Poplar of his own to negate Quinby’s! Quinby played Fire King Sanctuary, which put Fire King Island into play. He tried using Island’s effect to search, and Bsiso negated that with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Quinby played WANTED, finding Diabellstar. He Special Summoned it, sending Poplar to the Graveyard. Bsiso used his Divine Temple to Special Summon I:P Masquerena from his back row. Then, Diabellstar’s effect Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye on the field. Quinby tried exiting his Main Phase, and Bsiso used I:P Masquerena with Flamberge to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. Little Knight banished Quinby’s Set Original Sinful Spoils, then Flamberge Special Summoned Oak and Poplar. Poplar added an Original Sinful Spoils to Bsiso’s hand, and his Oak Special Summoned Ash. Ash then added another Ash to Bsiso’s hand. Quinby used WANTED in his Graveyard, returning his banished Original Sinful Spoils to bottom of the Deck to let him draw Effect Veiler.
Quinby Normal Summoned his own Oak, reviving Poplar. He used Oak’s effect, sending itself and Sanctuary to the Graveyard to Special Summon a Flamberge of his own. Bsiso used the effect of Promethean Princess in his Graveyard, targeting his own Oak and Quinby’s Poplar. Quinby Chained the effect of Fire King High Avatar Kirin. Bsiso Chained Linkuriboh, Tributing his targeted Oak to Special Summon Linkuriboh from his Graveyard. The Chain resolved with Poplar destroyed so Kirin could be Special Summoned from the hand. Then, with no targets to destroy, Promethean Princess remained in the Graveyard. Quinby used Kirin and Flamberge to Link Summon Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze. Flamberge revived Oak and Poplar. Then he used Hiita to steal Bsiso’s Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf. He used both Link Monsters to Link Summon his own Promethean Princess, which revived Flamberge. He used Poplar and Princess to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix, then used that to Link Summon Worldsea Dragon Zealantis! He used Zealantis to banish and Special Summon all monsters in Attack Position. That triggered the Graveyard effect of Promethean Princess, destroying Bsiso’s Linkuriboh and his own Oak. When Oak was destroyed he Special Summoned Raging Phoenix from the Graveyard with an ATK boost. Flamberge put Bsiso’s Heatsoul in the back row. After all that, Quinby had cleared Bsiso’s entire field and put down enough damage to end the Duel right here!
Duel 2
Bsiso began the next Duel with Bonfire to get Snake-Eye Ash. Quinby had Infinite Impermanence, and didn’t hold onto it like last game. Bsiso had Crossout Designator, but Quinby had Effect Veiler! Veiler negated Ash, and Crossout banished an Infinite Impermanence, negating any further copies for the turn. Bsiso used Ash to Link Summon Linkuriboh. He then used Monster Reborn to revive Ash. He used Ash to send itself and Linkuriboh to the Graveyard and Special Summon Poplar. That let him get Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He Tributed Poplar to bring Linkuriboh back, and Poplar put itself in the back row. Bsiso used Poplar to activate Original Sinful Spoils, Special Summoning Snake-Eye Oak. Oak revived Poplar. He used Oak to send itself and Linkuriboh to the Graveyard and bring Flamberge to the field. He used Flamberge with Poplar to Link Summon I:P Masquerena. Flamberge revived Poplar and Ash. Then he used Poplar and I:P Masquerena to play Promethean Princess. Princess revived Flamberge, which put I:P Masquerena in the back row. He used Oak and Princess to play Raging Phoenix. He then used Phoenix to play Zealantis, and used its effect to banish and Special Summon itself in the Main Monster Zone. He Set one back row card.
Quinby had a hand of Cosmic Cyclone, Bonfire, and Divine Temple. He drew Diabellstar. He started with Divine Temple, and Bsiso tried using Flamberge to Special Summon I:P Masquerena. Quinby responded with Cosmic Cyclone to banish I:P Masquerena! Divine Temple resolved, placing Poplar in his back row. He Special Summoned Diabellstar by sending Poplar to the Graveyard. He activated Diabellstar and Poplar’s effects, and Bsiso Chained Promethean Princess. Princess destroyed Diabellstar and Bsiso’s Flamberge, and was Special Summoned from the Graveyard. Poplar placed itself in the back row. Diabellstar Set Original Sinful Spoils. In a new Chain, Quinby’s Divine Temple targeted Poplar, and Bsiso’s Flamberge Special Summoned Oak and Ash. In another new Chain, Quinby activated Poplar, and Bsiso activated Oak and Ash. Bsiso Special Summoned Poplar and searched for Ash, then Quinby searched for Sinful Spoils of Subversion – Snake-Eye. Quinby flipped Original Sinful Spoils, sending Divine Temple to the Graveyard to Special Summon Legendary Fire King Ponix. Ponix added Fire King Island to Quinby’s hand. He used Island to destroy his Ponix and search for Sacred Fire King Garunix.
At this point, the other Matches from Bsiso’s and Quinby’s team mates ended. There was one win from each team, meaning everything rested on this Match!
Quinby Special Summoned Garunix, and it destroyed Fire King High Avatar Kirin from his Deck. Kirin’s effect let him Special Summon Ponix and destroy Bsiso’s Set Crossout Designator. Quinby continued with Bonfire to get Snake-Eye Oak. He used Ponix and Poplar to Link Summon Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze, then Normal Summoned Oak. Oak revived Poplar. He used Hiita to Special Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix from Bsiso’s Graveyard. He then used Oak’s effect with Poplar to Special Summon Flamberge from his Deck. He used Hiita and Raging Phoenix to Special Summon Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians, which revived Diabellstar. He then used Flamberge and Garunix to play Duelittle Chimera. Flamberge revived Oak and Poplar. Then he used Chimera and Diabellstar to play Promethean Princess, which revived Flamberge. He used Flamberge to place Raging Phoenix from Bsiso’s Graveyard into the back row. Then he used Poplar and Princess to Link Summon his own Raging Phoenix. Then he used Phoenix to play Zealantis. He used its effect, banishing everything and bringing them all back in Attack Position. He triggered Princess from his Graveyard, destroying Bsiso’s Zealantis and his own Oak. Oak’s destruction let him Special Summon Raging Phoenix from the Graveyard. He moved to the Battle Phase. Zealantis was co-linked with Promethean Princess, so it destroyed the Oak and Princess on Bsiso’s field. He sent everything to attack, ending the Match on his first turn two Duels in a row!
Elijah Quinby and Team Scythecord take the Match!
