Round 2 Feature Match: Nicolas Ramlal and Connor Thompson
The first round of YCS Raleigh has ended and we are now in Round 2. This round we have Nicolas Ramlal from Orlando, FL, and Connor Thompson from Aiken, SC. Both of these Duelists won their first round.
Ramlal is using a Voiceless Voice strategy while Thompson is using Horus Orcust! Orcust just got a buff from the newest Forbidden & Limited List with Orcust Harp Horror going to Unlimited status! With 3 copies of Harp Horror in his Deck, along with the powerful Horus cards, it is time to see how the Orcust strategy fares against the Voiceless Voice!
Both players shuffled up and Ramlal won the dice roll and chose to go first!
Duel One
Ramlal chose to start the Duel with the activation of Pre-Preparation of Rites, adding Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice, and Prayers of the Voiceless Voice. Thompson activated Droll & Lock Bird after the two cards were added to try and shut off further interactions with the Deck. Ramlal then activated Prayers and Tributed Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice to Ritual Summon Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice. Ramlal used Lo’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon Lo back to the field. He used Lo’s effect to place Radiance of the Voiceless Voice face-up. Barrier of the Voiceless Voice was then activated directly from Ramlal’s hand.
Ramlal used the effect of Radiance to shuffle his Prayers back into the Deck and Special Summon Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice in Defense Position.
Thompson had Orcust Harp Horror, Orcust Crescendo, Orcust Knightmare, and King’s Sarcophagus in his hand when he drew Hapi, Guidance of Horus for his turn. In his Main Phase, he activated King’s Sarcophagus but it was negated by Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice! Thompson set Harp Horror and Crescendo and ended his turn.
Ramlal drew for his turn and activated the effect of Barrier of the Voiceless Voice to get Saffira, Dragon Queen of the Voiceless Voice. He then activated Saffira’s effect to send a copy of Prayers from his Deck to the Graveyard and add another copy of Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice to his hand. Ramlal then activated and banished Saffira from his Graveyard to Ritual Summon the newly added Skull Guardian by Tributing his Lo from the last turn. Ramlal activated Lo’s effect to bring her back onto the field and her effect on the field added another copy of Saffira to the hand.
Sauravis was switched to Attack Mode and attacked the face-down Harp Horror. Then, both Skull Guardians attacked directly and wiped out Thompson’s Life Points!
The first Duel is over rather quickly thanks to the powerful negation effect of Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice! Thompson chose to start the second Duel.
Duel Two
Thompson opened Dark Grepher, Orcust Harp Horror, Bystial Magnamhut, Bystial Druiswurm, and Droll & Lock Bird. He started his turn with the Normal Summon of Dark Grepher and activated its effect by sending Orcust Harp Horror from his hand to the Graveyard. Ramlal had no response so Thompson sent an Orcust Knightmare from his Deck to the Graveyard. Thompson activated the effect of Harp Horror to try and Special Summon from his Deck but was stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! That didn’t stop Thompson though, he activated Knightmare’s effect to boost Dark Grepher’s ATK by sending World Legacy – “World Wand” from the Deck to the Graveyard.
He then activated the effect of World Wand to Special Summon back his Harp Horror. Thompson then Link Summoned Galatea, the Orcust Automaton using Harp Horror and Grepher. Thompson used Galatea’s effect to shuffle back the World Wand and Set Orcustrated Babel. Babel was activated. Thompson then Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star using his Galatea. He then used Dingirsu’s effect and attached his banished Orcust Knightmare to it as an Xyz Material.
Thompson then activated the effect of Bystial Druiswurm and banished his own Dark Grepher! He summoned Druiswurm and then Linked it away with his Dingirsu into I:P Masquerena! Thompson then passed his turn.
Ramlal drew for his turn. During the Draw Phase, Thompson activated the effect of Orcust Knightmare and targeted his I:P Masquerena. Sending Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to his Graveyard to increase I:P’s Attack Points by 300. During the Main Phase, Ramlal Normal Summoned Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice. He used Lo’s effect to place Barrier of the Voiceless Voice on the field. After Lo’s effect was finished, Thompson activated Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to Special Summon back his Dingirsu. Thompson then used Dingirsu’s effect to send Barrier to the Graveyard.
Ramlal Set 2 cards to his back row and then attempted to go to his End Phase. At the end of the Main Phase, Thompson activated I:P’s effect to Link Summon S:P Little Knight using his I:P and Dingirsu as Link Materials! Little Knight’s effect banished Lo and Ramlal continued to end his turn!
Thompson drew Orcustrated Return and went straight into his Main Phase. He activated the effect of Orcust Harp Horror and Special Summoned Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight from his Deck. He activated Girsu’s effect and sent World Legacy – “World Wand” to the Graveyard. He brought back Cymbal Skeleton with World Wand’s effect.
Thompson then Link Summoned another Galatea, the Orcust Automaton using his S:P and Cymbal Skeleton! He used Galatea’s effect to put World Wand back in the Deck to Set a copy of Orcust Crescendo. Thompson then used his Cymbal Skeleton’s effect to Special Summon back Dingirsu, again! Dingirsu’s effect let Thompson send Prayers of the Voiceless Voice to the Graveyard.
Thompson paused for a moment before going into his Battle Phase. At the end of his Main Phase, Ramlal activated his face-down Radiance of the Voiceless Voice! He shuffled his Prayers back into the Deck to Special Summon out a copy of Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice. Lo’s effect let Ramlal place Barrier onto the field.
Continuing his Main Phase, Galatea and Girsu were used to Link Summon Longirsu, the Orcust Orchestrator! Thompson used Longirsu’s effect to shuffle back 2 of his Orcust monsters to send Lo to the Graveyard. Thompson then activated Bystial Magnamhut’s effect to Banish the Lo and Special Summon itself. He activated Magnamhut’s effect and then continued to his Battle Phase.
Magnamhut and Dingirsu attacked directly, bringing Ramlal down to 2900 LP. Longirsu couldn’t attack because of its own effect.
During Main Phase 2, Thompson sent Dingirsu to the Graveyard to activate Orcustrated Return! He drew Foolish Burial and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Foolish Burial was activated and sent Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to the Graveyard. During the End Phase, Thompson added a Bystial Druiswurm to his hand through the effect of Magnamhut that he activated in Main Phase 1.
Ramlal drew for his turn. He looked at his hand for a moment before activating the effect of Saffira, Dragon Queen of the Voiceless Voice. Thompson stopped Saffira’s effect with his Orcust Crescendo. Ramlal tried to use Barrier’s effect but was stopped by Thompson’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Ramlal activated the effect of Radiance of the Voiceless Voice to put a Prayers of the Voiceless Voice from his hand back into the Deck and Special Summon Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice. On the Summon, Thompson tried to use the effect of Bystial Druiswurm to banish Saffira. Ramlal Chained Sauravis’s effect and shuffled it back into the Deck to summon Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended! Bystial Druiswurm was Special Summoned and Ramlal went into the Battle Phase.
Ramlal had Sauravis attack Longirsu, but Thompson activated his Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to bring back Dingirsu! Thompson used Dingirsu’s effect to send Sauravis to the Graveyard.
With no other plays, Ramlal opted to save time and concede to go into a third and final Duel!
Duel Three
Ramlal chose to start the final Duel. Thompson opened Orcustrated Return, Droll & Lock Bird, Orcust Harp Horror, Armageddon Knight, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Both players shared a friendly fist bump before starting the final Duel!
Ramlal started off with Saffira, Dragon Queen of the Voiceless Voice’s effect to send Prayers from his Deck to his Graveyard and add Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice to his hand. Thompson then used Droll & Lock Bird. Ramlal used Saffira’s effect to Ritual Summon Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice by using a Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice from hand. Lo’s effect brought itself back onto the field and placed Radiance of the Voiceless Voice onto the field.
Ramlal looked over his hand for different plays and then activated the effect of Radiance, trying to shuffle back Prayers to Special Summon, Thompson activated Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it, but Ramlal Chained Skull Guardian’s effect to negate the negate! Ramlal Special Summoned Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice from the effect of his Radiance.
Ramlal Set 1 card and then Link summoned Dyna Mondo using Skull Guardian and Lo. He ended his turn.
Thompson drew Infinite Impermanence for his turn. During the Draw Phase, Thompson activated Impermanence to negate Dyna Mondo’s effect, but Ramlal Chained Dyna Mondo’s effect to bring back Skull Guardian! Lo hit the field as well along with Barrier.
Thompson Normal Summoned Armageddon Knight and tried to use its effect, but it was stopped by Skull Guardian’s effect.
Thompson tried continuing with Orcustrated Return and sent Orcust Harp Horror to his Graveyard, but was stopped by Ramlal’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.
Thompson then activated Harp Horror’s effect next. Ramlal Chained his Sauravis’s effect on the field and Special Summoned Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended. Thompson Special Summoned Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight, and sent a copy of Orcust Knightmare to the Graveyard. Thompson then activated the effect of Girsu to Summon two World Legacy Tokens onto the field. He then activated Orcust Knightmare and targeted his Girsu to send World Legacy – “World Wand” to the Graveyard.
Thompson then activated World Wand to bring back his Harp Horror. He tried to Link Summon Galatea using Harp Horror but the Summon was negated by Sauravis! With no cards left in his hand and no more plays, Thompson conceded the Duel!
Nicolas Ramlal is now 2-0 with his Voiceless Voice Deck!
