YCS Raleigh First-Timers!

April 20th, 2024

There are lots of experienced YCS competitors here in Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend, but not all of the Duelists in attendance have competed in YCS events before. Check out some of this weekend’s Duelists competing in their first-ever YCS!

16-year-old Sean Kilian from Long Island, New York has experienced a lot of tournament success at his local OTS stores and Regional Qualifier events, but never competed in a YCS before! Now, he’s here to test his skills against top Duelists at YCS Raleigh! Although Sean is a dedicated Duelist who plays a lot of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, he isn’t often able to attend large events. Through a lot of skilled negotiating, however, he convinced his parents to take the 9-hour drive and bring him to YCS Raleigh. He’s using a Snake-Eye Deck that he has been Dueling with a lot, so he’s confident going into this tournament.

21-year-old Joshua Doile from Valdosta, Georgia has been Dueling for almost 2 years and has Dueled in 2 Regional Qualifiers and a bunch of local tournaments. Now, he’s attending his first YCS! He’s using a Tearlaments Deck this weekend because it’s the first competitive Deck he ever played and he enjoys using it more than any other Deck. When asked about his impressions of the event so far, he said, “I love the big stage – I’d love to be on a Feature Match.” He also added, “Everyone I’ve met so far has been really nice and helpful. It’s a really nice venue.” Joshua is looking forward to the competition. Here’s a photo of him holding up his favorite card in his Deck, Toadally Awesome!

He’s looking forward to the competition, but is already happy to be on the venue. “I think it’s great so far,” he said. “It’s a great atmosphere and there are a lot of people.” Here’s a photo of Mark holding up his favorite card in the Deck, Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice.

23-year-old Josh Beverly from Asheboro, North Carolina took an hour and a half drive to attend his first-ever YCS this weekend! He has competed in many Regional Qualifiers and local tournaments, but has not yet competed in an event of this size! “It’s really big,” he said. “I’m impressed with it. It’s much, much, bigger than a Regionals.” Now, he’s here with his Kashtira Monarch Deck, hoping to Tribute Summon Vanity’s Fiend against his opponents so that they can’t Special Summon any monsters.
