Deck Update: Legacy of Destruction!

June 2nd, 2024

Legacy of Destruction introduced a ton of powerful new cards, both introducing new archetypes to the game and providing powerful support for older, existing themes. Let’s take a look at some of the new cards from Legacy of Destruction and how they have helped to elevate these strategies to the next level here at YCS Indianapolis!

Tenpai Dragons

Tenpai Dragons are hottest new archetype to come out in Legacy of Destruction! They are an archetype that revolves around the Battle Phase, with effects that trigger during the Damage Step, limiting the window in which your opponent can interact with them. On top of that, their Field Spell, Sangen Summoning, makes your FIRE Dragon monsters unaffected by your opponent’s card effects during Main Phase 1. Another key card is Sangenpai Bident Dragion, a Level 7 Synchro monster that Special Summons another FIRE Dragon monster out of your Graveyard. With the Tenpai Dragons allowing you to conduct a Synchro Summon during the Battle Phase, Bident Dragion is a key card that helps the Deck to push for a ton of damage!

Here at YCS Indianapolis, we’ve seen a ton of decks using the Tenpai Dragon cards throughout the event. The Deck can be played as a pure strategy on its own, with a plethora of disruptions such as Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit that aim to prevent your opponent from establishing their field so that you can win the game the following turn. However, we’ve also seen the Deck combined with archetypes such as Snake-Eye, adding a bit more firepower to the Deck and allowing them to win games when the opponent least expects it!

Melodious

The Melodious archetype was introduced back in Duelist Alliance, a set that was released a full decade ago. However, the new Melodious cards introduced in Legacy of Destruction add some much needed power to the Deck, giving them powerful new starters and combo pieces that have allowed them to thrive in the current format.

Melodious Concerto is a potent new Fusion Spell Card, allowing the Deck to conduct a Fusion Summon using materials from the hand, field, or Pendulum Zones! With two powerful new Pendulum Monsters in Couplet the Melodious Songstress and Refrain the Melodious Songstress, the Deck can Fusion Summon powerful old Fusion monsters like Schuberta the Melodious Maestra and Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir, as well as new ones like Bacha the Melodious Maestra and Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat! Speaking of which, Etoile is one of the strongest boss monsters in the current format. You can banish any number of Melodious monsters from your field until the End Phase, and if you do, you can return up to that many face-up cards from your opponent’s field back to their hand. On one hand, this can be very disruptive, preventing your opponent from conducting a Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summon with those monsters. On the other hand, this can be extremely powerful for Melodious, protecting your monsters from a potential Nibiru the Primal Being, as well as clearing your own field temporarily, allowing you to activate Ostinato or 1st Movement Solo!

Tenpai Dragons and Melodious are just two of the archetypes that are thriving following the release of Legacy of Destruction. Be sure to stay tuned to see which cards and strategies make it to the top of YCS Indianapolis!
