Round 1 Feature Match: Christopher Hardin vs. Zackery Meece
Christopher Hardin is a local Duelist from Greenfield, Indiana, and he’s here competing with his Yubel Deck. Zackery Meece from Greenville, Kentucky is using a Tenpai Dragon Deck. Now, these two Duelists are paired against one another in this Round 1 Feature Match! Yubel Decks got a huge boost from the Legacy of Destruction booster set thanks to new cards like Nightmare Throne and Gruesome Grave Squirmer. Hardin is using 3 copies of each of those two cards in his Deck this weekend, making his Yubel Deck stronger than it has ever been before. Tenpai Dragons, however, are an entirely new theme that was introduced in Legacy of Destruction. The Tenpai Dragon Deck immediately established itself as a top contender for competitive Dueling because of how easily it is able to win the Duel in a single Battle Phase. Two powerful Decks will clash in this Round 1 Feature Match, but if Hardin’s Yubel cards can’t slow down Meece’s Dragons, it’ll be over quickly. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Hardin opened up Duel 1 with Spirit of Yubel, Dark Beckoning Beast, Nightmare Pain, Unchained Soul of Sharvara, and Infinite Impermanence.
He Normal Summoned Dark Beckoning Beast and activated its effect to add Opening of the Spirit Gates from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to add Dark Beckoning Beast from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Nightmare Pain. He activated its effect, but lost out to Meece’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he used his second Normal Summon granted by his Dark Beckoning Beast to Summon his second Dark Beckoning Beast. He sent both Dark Beckoning Beasts to the Graveyard to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama. Next, he activated the effect of Opening of the Spirit Gates. He discarded Spirit of Yubel and Special Summoned it from his Graveyard. He then used Spirit of Yubel’s effect to add Eternal Favorite from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Sharvara from his hand next by destroying Spirit of Yubel. He Special Summoned Yubel from his Deck with the effect of Spirit of Yubel and then sent Sharvara and Yama to the Graveyard to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. Next, he activated Sharvara’s effect to Set Escape of the Unchained from his Deck to his field. He Set Eternal Favorite and Infinite Impermanence before ending his turn. In the End Phase, Hardin destroyed Yubel with his Yubel’s effect.
Meece activated Sangen Summoning. Next, he used its effect to add Tenpai Dragon Paidra from his Deck to his hand and discard another Sangen Summoning. He Normal Summoned Paidra and then activated its effect to add Sangen Kaimen from his Deck to his hand. In his Main Phase, Hardin flipped Eternal Favorite and used its effect to try to Special Summon a monster. Meece Chained Bystial Magnamut’s effect from his hand to banish Spirit of Yubel from the Graveyard and Special Summon the Magnamhut. Hardin Special Summoned Yubel from his Graveyard, and then Meece activated his Magnamhut’s effect; but Hardin Chained Infinite Impermanence to negate its effect. Meece Special Summoned Tenpai Dragon Chundra next. Hardin tried to use the effect of Unchained Soul of Rage to target Chundra and use it in a Link Summon, but Chundra was unaffected because of Sangen Summoning. Meece entered his Battle Phase and then activated Sangen Kaimen. He added Tenpai Dragon Fadra from his Deck to his hand and Special Summoned it to his field. Next, he used Chundra’s effect to Tune it with Paidra and Synchro Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion. He used Bident Dragion’s effect to target Chundra in order to Special Summon it, and then Chained Fadra’s effect to Tune it with Bident Dragion to Synchro Summon Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate. He Special Summoned Chundra from his Graveyard as the effect of Bident Dragion resolved and then continued his Battle Phase by attacking Yubel with Vorpgate. He used Vorpgate’s effect to banish all monsters Hardin controlled, causing the rest of the battle damage he inflicted that turn to be halved. Next, he attacked directly with Magnamhut and Chundra. At the start of the Damage Step, he used Chundra’s effect to Special Summon Paidra from his Deck. He then used Bident Dragion’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it and attacked directly with it, dropping Hardin down to 3850 Life Points. Next, he used Paidra’s effect to Tune it with Bident Dragion and Synchro Summon Trident Dragion! He declared that he was using its effect to destroy Magnamhut and Sangen Summoning. Hardin conceded, knowing that Meece would double Trident Dragion’s Attack Points to 6000 with the effect of Sangen Summoning and then attack directly with it three times!
Zackery Meece displays the awesome power of his Tenpai Dragon Deck by defeating Hardin on his first turn, despite all battle damage he inflicts being halved! Since Tenpai Dragon Decks thrive on going second, Hardin chose to force Meece to go first in the second Duel.
Duel Two
Meece started off Duel 2 by activating Sangen Summoning and Normal Summoning Tenpai Dragon Paidra.
He used its effect to add Sangen Kaimen from his Deck to his hand and then activated the effect of Sangen Summoning to try to add a Tenpai Dragon from his Deck to his hand, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Meece activated Sangen Kaimen to add Tenpai Dragon Chundra from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it from his hand and then sent Paidra and Chundra to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. He Set a card to his back row and passed his turn.
Hardin drew Super Polymerization and added it to his hand of Yubel, Opening of the Spirit Gate, Escape of the Unchained, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He activated Opening of the Spirit Gates and used its effect to add Dark Beckoning Beast from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to add another Opening of the Spirit Gates to his hand. He Set Escape of the Unchained and Super Polymerization and then ended his turn. In his End Phase, Hardin used the effect of his Hieratic Seal. He Tributed it to return Opening of the Spirit Gates to Hardin’s hand and then Special Summoned Tenpai Dragon Fadra from his Deck. He used Fadra’s effect to Special Summon Paidra from his Graveyard and then used Paidra’s effect to add Sangen Kaimen to his hand.
Meece drew a card and then used Sangen Summoning’s effect to add Chundra to his hand and discard Raigeki. He activated Chundra’s effect to Special Summon it and then switched all of his monsters into Attack Position. He attacked Dark Beckoning Beast with Paidra and used Chundra’s effect to Special Summon another Paidra to the field in the Damage Step. He used Paidra’s effect to Set Kaimen to his field and dropped Hardin down to 6300 Life Points with the attack. Another Paidra attacked next, prompting Hardin to activate Super Polymerization. He discarded Yubel from his hand and fused Chundra with Paidra to Summon Garura, Wings of Resonant Life in Defense Position. Fadra attacked Garura and at the start of the Damage Step he used Fadra’s effect to Special Summon Chundra from the Graveyard. He took no damage from the battle thanks to the effect of Paidra. Next, he used Chundra’s effect to Tune it with Fadra and Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion. He used Bident Dragion’s effect to Special Summon Paidra from his Graveyard and then attacked Garura to destroy it, allowing Hardin to draw a card. Next, Paidra attacked directly, dropping Hardin down to 4600 Life Points. Meece activated Sangen Kaimen next, but lost out to Ash Blossom. He activated Paidra’s effect to Tune it with Bident Dragion and Summon Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion. He used Bident Dragion’s effect to Special Summon it back from his Graveyard since he had already attacked with at least 3 monsters, and then direct attacks from Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion and Sangenpai Bident Dragion finished Hardin off!
Zackery Meece takes a quick 2-0 victory in Round 1 with his Tenpai Dragon Deck!
