Round 10 Feature Match: Donovan Bowman vs. Brandon Weathersby

June 2nd, 2024

Donovan Bowman from St. Louis, Missouri is currently 7-2 at YCS Indianapolis. Although he has competed in several YCS events in the past, this is his first YCS event in which he made it into Day 2! Now, he’s just a couple of wins away from being able to make it into the Top 32 with his Voiceless Voice Deck. His opponent, Brandon Weathersby from Washington D.C., has made the Top Cut of YCS events in the past, but is still chasing a first place victory. Weathersby achieved his 7-2 record with an unconventional Adventure Phantom Knight Horus Deck this weekend, and he’s relying on this Deck to take him the distance. Now, Bowman and Weathersby are facing off in this Round 10 Feature Match. Only one of them can win and maintain hope for a Top Cut finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Weathersby opened up Duel 1 with The Phantom Knights of Torn Scales, Speedroid Terrortop, Water Enchantress of the Temple, Triple Tactics Talent, and Imsety, Glory of Horus.

Brandon Weathersby

He Special Summoned Terrortop from his hand and used its effect to add Speedroid Taketomborg from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it and then sent both monsters to his Graveyard to Link Summon Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss. He activated its effect by sending The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak from his Deck to his Graveyard and increased Cherubini’s ATK by 800. Next, he banished Water Enchantress of the Temple from his hand to activate its effect, but Bowman negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Weathersby activated Triple Tactics Talent next, revealing Diviner of the Herald, Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice, and two copies of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand. He returned Diviner to the Deck and then continued his turn. He Normal Summoned Torn Scales and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Cherubini to Link Summon The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche. He activated its effect, and Bowman activated the effect of the Ghost Ogre in his hand to destroy it. Weathersby resolved its effect to send The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from his Deck to his Graveyard and Set Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to his field. He banished Silent Boots from his Graveyard to add Phantom Knights’ Wing from his Deck to his hand and then activated the effect of Imsety by sending Imsety to the Graveyard along with his Wing. He added King’s Sarcophagus to his hand and drew Nemeses Corridor. He banished Ancient Cloak from his Graveyard to add a Silent Boots to his hand and used his Torn Scales’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it. He banished Wing from his Graveyard next to Special Summon Rusty Bardiche. Next, he Special Summoned Nemeses Corridor from his hand by returning Ancient Cloak from banishment to his Deck. He Special Summoned Silent Boots from his hand next and then combined Silent Boots and Torn Scales to Xyz Summon The Phantom Knights of Break Sword linked to Rusty Bardiche. He used Rusty Bardiche’s effect to destroy Break Sword and used Break Sword’s effect to Special Summon Silent Boots and Torn Scales from his Graveyard as Level 4 monsters. He combined them to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Nightmare in Defense Position and then activated King’s Sarcophagus. He Special Summoned Imsety from his Graveyard and then Tributed Nemeses Corridor to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus in Defense Position.

Bowman drew a card and conceded, acknowledging that there was nothing he could do to turn the Duel around.

Brandon Weathersby wins the first Duel with ease using his Adventure Phantom Knight Horus Deck! Bowman chose to go first in the next Duel!

Duel Two

Bowman started off Duel 2 by activating Pre-Preparation of Rites and adding Prayers of the Voiceless Voice and Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice from his Deck to his hand.

Donovan Bowman

This prompted Weathersby to activate the effect of his Droll & Lock Bird! Bowman activated Prayers of the Voiceless Voice and Tributed Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice to Summon Skull Guardian. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.

Weathersby drew Rite of Aramesir and added it to his hand of Speedroid Terrortop, King’s Sarcophagus, Hapi, Guidance of Horus, and The Phantom Knights of Torn Scales. He Special Summoned Terrortop and activated its effect to add Speedroid Taketomborg from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Rite of Aramesir, prompting Bowman to Chain Radiance of the Voiceless Voice. He returned Prayers of the Voiceless Voice from his Graveyard to his Deck and Special Summoned Lo, Prayers of the Voiceless Voice. Rite of Aramesir resolved to Special Summon an Adventure Token and place Fateful Adventure from his Deck into his Spell & Trap Card Zone. Lo’s effect allowed Bowman to place Barrier of the Voiceless Voice from his Deck to his back row. Weathersby Special Summoned Taketomborg next and used the effect of Fateful Adventure to add Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon to his hand.  He then used the effect of Fateful Adventure to add Wandering Gryphon Rider from his Deck to his hand and discard Dracoback. He activated the effect of Dracoback and Chained the effect of Wandering Gryphon Rider. Bowman Chained his Skull Guardian’s effect to negate and destroy Gryphon Rider, then Dracoback was equipped to the Adventure Token by its own effect. Weathersby used his Dracoback’s effect to try to return Bowman’s face-down back row card to his hand. Bowman Chained it. It was Super Polymerization! He discarded Saffira, Dragon Queen of the Voiceless Voice and fused Terrortop and Taketomborg from Weathersby’s field to Summon Garura, Wings of Resonant Life. Next, Weathersby activated King’s Sarcophagus. He used its effect to discard Hapi and send Imsety from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Hapi, followed by Imsety, and then combined both monsters to Summon The Zombie Vampire. He detached an Xyz Material from it to send the top 4 cards of both players’ Decks to the Graveyard, including his own Ancient Cloak and Silent Boots. He Special Summoned his Ancient Cloak with the effect of his Vampire and then Normal Summoned Torn Scales. He combined Ancient Cloak with Torn Scales to Summon Break Sword and then used Break Sword’s effect to destroy Barrier of the Voiceless Voice and the Break Sword. He used Break Sword’s other effect to Special Summon Ancient Cloak and Torn Scales from his Graveyard as Level 4 monsters. He used the effect of Ancient Cloak to increase his Vampire’s ATK by 800. Then, he combined his Level 4 Ancient Cloak and Level 4 Torn Scales to Xyz Summon Raider’s Knight. He detached Torn Scales from Raider’s Knight to activate its effect and upgrade Raider’s Knight into Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon. He activated the effect of Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon, increasing its Attack Points to 11,600 and negating the effects of all monsters on Bowman’s field! Weathersby entered his Battle Phase, and one attack from Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon over Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice wiped out all of Bowman’s Life Points!

Brandon Weathersby takes a quick 2-0 victory with his Adventure Phantom Knight Horus Deck and advances with an 8-2 record!
