Round 6 Feature Match: Jesse Kotton vs. Alyse Davis

Jesse Kotton from Toronto, Canada and Alyse Davis from Stillwater, Minnesota are both currently 5-0 in YCS Indianapolis. Now, they’re Dueling against one another in a Match that will determine which one of them can advance undefeated! Jesse Kotton is using a Melodious Deck, bolstered by the many new cards in the Melodious theme from Legacy of Destruction. Davis is using a Snake-Eyes Deck featuring Legacy of Destruction’s Snake-Eyes Diabellstar. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Kotton opened up Duel 1 with Ostinato, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Sonata the Melodious Diva, Couplet the Melodious Songstress, and Soprano the Melodious Songstress.

He activated Ostinato in his Main Phase. He sent Refrain the Melodious Songstress and Shopina the Melodious Maestra from his Deck to his Graveyard to Summon Bacha the Melodious Maestra and Davis activated the effect of Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill to negate its effect. Next, Kotton activated Couplet in his Pendulum Zone and used its effect to add Melodious Concerto from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and fused Bacha from his field, Couplet from his Pendulum Zone, and Soprano from his hand to Summon Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat. He took 2500 points of damage due to Ghost Mourner’s effect. He activated the effects of Bacha and Couplet. Bacha’s effect Special Summoned Refrain from his Graveyard and then Couplet’s effect returned the Couplet to his Pendulum Zone. Next, he used Refrain’s effect to add Couplet from his Deck to his hand. He used Couplet’s effect to Special Summon Soprano from his Graveyard and then used Soprano’s effect to add Shopina from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Sonata from his hand. He used Refrain and Diva to Link Summon Bloom Harmonist the Melodious Composer. He discarded Couplet to activate its effect and Special Summon Aria the Melodious Diva and Soprano the Melodious Songstress from his Deck. He activated Soprano’s effect to try to Fusion Summon a monster, and Davis activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being! Kotton Chained the effect of his Flowering to banish all of his monsters until the End Phase, and there was nothing left from him to fuse together with the effect of Soprano. With no monsters on the field, Nibiru remained in Davis’s hand. All 5 monsters that he banished with the effect of Flowering Etoile returned to Kotton’s field in the End Phase.

Davis activated Bonfire and used its effect to add Snake-Eye Ash to her hand. She Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Snake-Eyes Poplar to her hand. She used Poplar’s effect to Special Summon it from her hand and then activated Poplar’s effect on the field to add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from her Deck to her hand. She sent Poplar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Relinquished Anima and then used Poplar’s effect to move it from her Graveyard to her Spell & Trap Card Zone. Next, she used Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye to send Poplar to the Graveyard and Special Summon Oak from her Deck. She used Oak’s effect to Special Summon Poplar. Next, she used the effect of Snake-Eye Ash, sending it to the Graveyard along with Relinquished Anima to Summon Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon from her Deck. She sent Flamberge Dragon and Oak to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix and then used the effect of Flamberge Dragon and Knightmare Phoenix. She discarded Nibiru to destroy Kotton’s Couplet that was in his Pendulum Zone and Special Summoned 2 monsters from her Graveyard with the effect of Flamberge Dragon. Next, she Link Summoned Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames and used her effect to Special Summon Flamberge Dragon back from her Graveyard. She sent Princess and Poplar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix and then sent Raging Phoenix to the Graveyard to Link Summon Worldsea Dragon Zealantis.

On its Summon, Kotton used the effect of Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat. He banished all of his own monsters to return all cards on Davis’s field to her hand! With no other plays to make, she instantly conceded the Duel!

Duel Two

Davis started off Duel 2 by activating Bonfire.

Alyse Davis

She added Snake-Eye Ash to her hand and Normal Summoned it. She activated its effect but lost out to Effect Veiler. Next, she activated Triple Tactics Talent to look at Kotton’s hand of Evenly Matched, Herald of Orange Light, Soprano the Melodious Songstress, and Triple Tactics Talent. She returned Evenly Matched to Kotton’s Deck and then activated One for One by sending Nibiru from her hand to her Graveyard. She Special Summoned Poplar and then activated its effect on the field; but Kotton used the effect of his Herald and discarded it along with Soprano to negate the activation of its effect and destroy it.

Kotton drew Soprano from his Deck and Summoned it. He attacked Ash to destroy it and then passed his turn.

Davis drew to 2 cards in her hand and passed.

Kotton drew Evenly Matched and attacked directly with Soprano.

Davis drew a card and Set a monster face-down.

Kotton drew another Evenly Matched and switched his Soprano into Defense Position.

Davis drew a card and activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils in the Draw Phase to add Diabellstar the Black Witch from her Deck to her hand. She sent Ash Blossom from her hand to her Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar and used its effect to Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from her Deck to her field. Next, she Flip Summoned Ash Blossom and used Original Sinful Spoils to send it to the Graveyard and Special Summon Oak. She used Oak’s effect to Special Summon Snake-Eye Ash and used Ash’s effect to add Poplar from her Deck to her hand. She Special Summoned Poplar and used its effect to add Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye to her hand. She activated Divine Temple and used its effect to send Snake-Eyes Diabellstar from her Deck to her Spell & Trap Card Zone. She used Snake-Eyes Diabellstar’s effect to move Poplar from her Graveyard to her Spell & Trap Card Zone and Special Summon the Snake-Eyes Diabellstar. Kotton conceded, unable to survive the turn.

Duel Three

Kotton opened up Duel 3 with Soprano the Melodious Songstress, Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Pot of Desires, and Refrain the Melodious Songstress. He activated Pot of Desires by banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down and drew Ostinato and Couplet the Melodious Songstress from his Deck. He activated Ostinato next, fusing Shopina and Soprano from his Deck to Summon Bacha the Melodious Maestra. He used Bacha’s effect, but lost out to Effect Veiler. Next, he Normal Summoned Refrain the Melodious Songstress and used its effect to add Couplet the Melodious Songstress to his hand. He used Couplet’s effect to Special Summon Soprano from his Graveyard and used Soprano’s effect to add Shopina from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he activated Couplet in his Pendulum Zone and used its effect to add Melodious Concerto from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and fused the Refrain on his field, Couplet in his Pendulum Zone, and Shopina in his hand to Summon Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat. He used the effects of his Pendulum Monsters to put them in his Pendulum Zones and then used Refrain’s Pendulum Effect to send Aria the Melodious Diva from his Deck to his Graveyard and increase Flowering Etoile’s Attack Points. He used Soprano’s effect to fuse it with Bacha and Summon Schuberta the Melodious Maestra. He used the effects of Concerto and Bacha. Concerto returned to the bottom of Kotton’s Deck, allowing him to draw a card, and Bacha Special Summoned Shopina from his Graveyard to his field in Defense Position. He used Shopina’s effect to return Aria from his Graveyard to his hand and then Pendulum Summoned the Aria. He Set a card to his back row and then tried to end his turn. In his Main Phase, Davis activated the effect of Nibiru, but Kotton banished all of his monsters with Flowering Etoile until the End Phase to dodge the effect of Nibiru once again and keep the Nibiru in Davis’s hand.

Davis Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and used its effect to add another Kashtira Fenrir to her hand. She Normal Summoned Poplar next and used its effect to add Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye from her Deck to her hand. She activated it and used its effect to place Snake-Eyes Diabellstar from her Deck into her Spell & Trap Card Zone. Next, she sent Poplar and Fenrir to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hiita the Fire Charmber, Ablaze. She then used Snake-Eyes Diabellstar’s effect to Special Summon it from her back row and put Poplar in its place. Davis Link Summoned Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians next and placed 6 Spell Counters on it. She removed 3 of them to Special Summon Effect Veiler from her Graveyard, then sent Veiler and Selene to the Graveyard to Link Summon Accesscode Talker, increasing its ATK by 3000 by targeting Selene in her Graveyard with its effect. Kotton then used the effect of the Effect Veiler in his hand to negate the effect of Accesscode Talker for the rest of the turn. Davis Special Summoned Diabellstar the Black Witch from her hand by sending Poplar to the Graveyard and then used Diabellstar the Black Witch’s effect to Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from her Deck to her field. She activated it by sending Divine Temple to the Graveyard and Kotton activated Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate its effect. Next, Davis activated Bonfire to add Snake-Eyes Poplar from her Deck to her hand. She Special Summoned it with its effect and then looked through her Extra Deck.

After a few moments she conceded, realizing there was nothing she could do to play through Kotton’s field.
