Bailey Peters from Nashville, Tennessee is currently 5-1-1 with his Lightsworn Horus Deck. Now he’s Dueling against Quikai Yao from Buffalo, New York, who is  5-0-2 with his Bystial Dragon Link Deck. Neither of these strategies is a popular one this weekend, but both of them have served these Duelists well. Both players are still in contention for making it into Day 2, and they’ll be giving this Duel their all in order to maximize their chances of making it into the Top 32 cut. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Peters chose to go first and opened up Duel 1 with Judgment Dragon, Chaos Space, Monster Reborn, Starliege Seyfert, and Mudora the Sword Oracle.

He activated Chaos Space by sending Judgment Dragon from his hand to his Graveyard and added Black Dragon Collapserpent from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it by banishing Judgment Dragon from his Graveyard and then sent Collapserpent from his field to his Graveyard to Link Summon Striker Dragon. He used Collapserpent’s effect to add White Dragon Wyverburster from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned it by banishing Collapserpent from his Graveyard. Next, he banished Chaos Space from his Graveyard to return Judgment Dragon from banishment to his Deck and draw Imsety, Glory of Horus. He used his 2 monsters to Link Summon Dragunity Knight – Romulus next and used its effect to add Dragon Ravine to his hand. Next, he activated Imsety’s effect by sending it to his Graveyard along with Mudora and added King’s Sarcophagus to his hand before drawing Forbidden Droplet. He activated King’s Sarcophagus and then Special Summoned Imsety from his Graveyard. He discarded Forbidden Droplet to use his Sarcophagus’s effect and sent Hapi, Guidance of Horus from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned it to his field thanks to his King’s Sarcophagus and then combined Hapi and Imsety to Xyz Summon The Zombie Vampire. He activated its effect by detaching Imsety and both players sent the top 4 cards of their Decks to the Graveyard. Yao sent Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Skill Drain, and Rokket Recharger; Peters sent Lightsworn Dragonling, Forbidden Droplet, and 2 copies of Wulf, Lightsworn Beast. He Special Summ1oned Dragonling with the Vampire’s effect and then activated the effects of Dragonling and both copies of Wulf. Dragonling’s effect sent Felis, Lightsworn Archer to the Graveyard and both copies of Wulf were Summoned to the field. In a separate Chain, Felis was Summoned to the field by its own effect. Next, Peters sent Dragonling and Romulus to his Graveyard to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. He used Dragonling’s effect to add Judgment Dragon to his hand, then Tuned Felis and Wulf to Synchro Summon Minerva, the Athenian Lightsworn. He used Minerva’s effect to send Felis and Weiss, Lightsworn Archfiend from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Felis’s effect to Special Summon it and Weiss’s effect to Special Summon another Felis from his Graveyard. Next, he sent Wulf and Felis to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega and used its effect to banish White Dragon Wyverburster from Yao’s hand. Next, Peters Normal Summoned Starliege Seyfert and used its effect by sending Judgment Dragon from his hand to his Graveyard. He added Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his Deck to his hand and then used Minerva’s effect. He banished 4 Lightsworn monsters from his Graveyard and sent the top 4 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent a Triple Tactics Talent, Starliege Seyfert, Bystial Magnamhut, and Weiss, Lightsworn Archfiend. He activated Monster Reborn next, Special Summoning Magnamhut from his Graveyard, and activated its effect. Next, he Tuned Magnamhut with Felis to Summon Bystial Dis Pater. He used Dis Pater’s effect to Special Summon Omega from banishment. He used Omega’s effect again to banish Called by the Grave from Yao’s hand. Next, he banished 3 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer and used its effect to return a card in Yao’s hand to his Deck, dropping him down to just 2 cards in his hand. Next, he banished Seyfert from his Graveyard to use its effect and return Judgment Dragon to his hand and then activated Dragon Ravine. He used the effect of Dragon Ravine to discard Judgment Dragon and send The Bystial Lubellion from his Deck to his Graveyard, and Yao had seen enough. Despite not having played any cards yet during the Duel, he only had 2 cards left in his hand and conceded, facing down Peters’s massive field of monsters.

Duel Two

Yao started off Duel 2 by activating the effect of The Bystial Lubellion in his hand.

He sent it to his Graveyard to get Bystial Magnamhut from his Deck and then banished Lubellion from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magnamhut from his hand. He activated Magnamhut’s effect and Chained the effect of Noctovision Dragon to Special Summon it. Next, he sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Dragunity Knight – Romulus. He activated the effect of Noctovision Dragon to draw a card and the effect of Romulus to add Dragon Ravine from his Deck to his hand. He banished Magnamhut from his Graveyard to Special Summon Wyverburster and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Romulus to Link Summon Hieratic Seals of the Heavenly Spheres. He used Wyverburster’s effect to add a Collapserpent from his Deck to his hand and then He banished Wyverburster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Collapserpent and then activated Dragon Ravine. He discarded Chaos Space to send Bystial Saronir from his Deck to his Graveyard with Dragon Ravine and used Saronir’s effect to send The Bystial Lubellion from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Chaos Space from his Graveyard to return Wyverburster from his banished zone to his Deck and draw a card. Next, he sent Collapserpent to his Graveyard to Link Summon Striker Dragon. He used the effects of Striker Dragon and Collapserpent to add Boot Sector Launch and Wyverburster from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned Rokket Tracer. He used Tracer’s effect to destroy Dragon Ravine and Special Summon Rokket Recharger from his Deck. Next, he sent Rokket Recharger to the Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Pisty and used its effect to Special Summon Magnamhut from banishment. He Tuned Magnamhut with Rokket Tracer to Summon Bystial Dis Pater and then sent Dis Pater to the Graveyard to Special Summon The Bystial Lubellion from his Graveyard. He used Lubellion’s effect to place Branded Regained from his Deck into his Spell & Trap Card Zone and then used Striker Dragon’s effect to destroy Pisty and add Rokket Recharger from his Graveyard to his hand. He used his Recharger’s effect to send it to his Graveyard and Special Summon Bystial Dis Pater back from his Graveyard. He sent Dis Pater and Lubellion to his Graveyard to Link Summon I:P Masquerena and then ended his turn. He added a Bystial Baldrake from his Deck to his hand in the End Phase thanks to the effect of Magnamhut he activated earlier in the turn.

Peters opened up Duel 2 with Keldo the Sacred Protector, Chaos Space, Triple Tactics Talent, Chaos Dragon Levianeer, and Branded Regained. He drew Triple Tactics Thrust for his turn and then activated Chaos Space by discarding Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his hand; but Yao activated the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it! That allowed Peters to use Triple Tactics Talent to take control of one of Yao’s monsters! Yao Chained the effect of his Spheres by Tributing it, and then Chained Masquerena’s effect. He combined his 2 remaining monsters to Summon S:P Little Knight, and then returned Little Knight to his Extra Deck with his Hieratic Seal’s effect, leaving nothing on his field for Peters to take with his Triple Tactics Talent! In a new Chain, Yao Special Summoned Bystial Druiswurm from his Deck with 0 ATK and 0 DEF with the effect of Spheres. Peters activated Triple Tactics Thrust next, adding Charge of the Light Brigade from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Keldo, triggering the effect of Yao’s Branded Regained. Yao targeted Dis Pater in his Graveyard. Peters Chained Keldo’s effect to return Dis Pater and a Magnamhut from Yao’s Graveyard to his Deck. Peters activated Charge of the Light Brigade next, sending Forbidden Droplet, Charge of the Light Brigade, and Lightsworn Dragonling from his Deck to his Graveyard and adding another Dragonling from his Deck to his hand. He used the effect of the Dragonling he sent to his Graveyard to add Judgment Dragon from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Dragonling from his hand and used its effect to send Felis from his Deck to his Graveyard. He tried to use its effect to Special Summon it, but Yao Chained Baldrake’s effect to banish Felis. Yao then used the effect of Branded Regained to return a banished Felis to Peters’s Deck, allowing Yao to draw a card. Peters conceded, unable to build a field.

The Match is going to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Peters opened up Duel 3 with Charge of the Light Brigade, Weiss, Lightsworn Archfiend, Wulf, Lightsworn Beast, and 2 copies of Imsety, Glory of Horus. He activated Imsety’s effect by sending it and another card from his hand to his Graveyard. He added King’s Sarcophagus to his hand and drew Starliege Seyfert from his Deck. He activated Weiss’s effect to put Wulf on top of his Deck and Special Summon it. He sent 2 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, including Wulf, and then Special Summoned the Wulf with its effect. He Tuned Wulf with Weiss to Synchro Summon Minerva, the Athenian Lightsworn and then used Minerva’s effect to send Felis and Weiss from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used the effects of Weiss and Felis to Special Summon the Felis and a Wulf from his Graveyard. He Tuned Wulf with Felis to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega and used its effect to banish a Branded Regained from Yao’s hand. Next, he activated Charge of the Light Brigade by sending Druiswurm, Magnamhut, and Charge of the Light Brigade from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and added Lightsworn Dragonling from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it and then used its effect to send Felis from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Felis and then Normal Summoned Starliege Seyfert. He used Seyfert’s effect to send it to his Graveyard along with his Dragonling and add Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his Deck to his hand. He used his Dragonling’s effect in the Graveyard to add Judgment Dragon from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Levianeer by banishing Druiswurm, Magnamhut, and an Imsety from his Graveyard and shuffled a random card from Yao’s hand back into his Deck with Levianeer’s effect. That dropped Yao down to 3 cards in his hand. Next, Peters Special Summoned Judgment Dragon from his hand. He sent Levianeer and Judgment Dragon to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. Next, he banished Seyfert from his Graveyard to return Judgment Dragon to his hand and Special Summoned it. He then banished 4 Lightsworn monsters from his Graveyard with Minerva’s effect to send the top 4 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. Then, he combined Judgment Dragon with Minerva to Xyz Summon The Zombie Vampire, sending the top 4 cards of both players’ Decks to the Graveyard with its effect. He Special Summoned a Bystial Druiswurm and then Tuned it with Felis to Synchro Summon Bystial Dis Pater. He used Dis Pater’s effect to Special Summon Omega and use its effect to banish Starliege Seyfert from Yao’s hand at random. Next, he sent Dis Pater to the Graveyard to Special Summon The Bystial Lubellion from his Graveyard and used its effect to place Branded Regained from his Deck into his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He activated King’s Sarcophagus next and then Special Summoned Imsety from his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy before passing his turn.

Yao banished D.D. Crow from his Graveyard to Special Summon a Wyverburster.  Peters activated the effect of Branded Regained to try to Special Summon Dis Pater from his Graveyard and Chained the effect of Hieratic Spheres by Tributing it. Yao Chained Bystial Druiswurm’s effect targeting Hieratic Seal, and Peters Chained the effect of a Keldo in his Graveyard to banish it and return the Hieratic Seal in his Graveyard, as well as a Seyfert and Saronir in Yao’s Graveyard, back to the Deck. As the Chain resolved, Wyverburster returned to Yao’s hand and Dis Pater was Special Summoned to Peters’s field. Yao Normal Summoned Rokket Caliber next and then Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis in Defense Position. He used its effect to return Dis Pater to the Extra Deck and then ended his turn.

Peters drew a card and then Omega returned to his field, and Branded Regained and Seyfert returned to Yao’s hand from banishment. Peters used his Sarcophagus’s effect by discarding Imsety and sent Hapi from his Deck to his Graveyard. Yao used Druiswurm’s effect to banish Imsety and Special Summoned Druiswurm. Peters used the effect of Regained to return Imsety to the Deck and draw Skill Drain. He discarded Skill Drain to use the effect of his King’s Sarcophagus and sent Imsety from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Imsety and Hapi and then entered his Battle Phase. Hapi attacked TY-PHON and sent it to the Graveyard thanks to his Sarcophagus’s effect, and then Omega attacked Druiswurm and destroyed it. Druiswurm’s effect sent Number 38 to the Graveyard. Hapi’s effect activated to return Chaos Dragon Levianeer and Dragonling from Peters’s Graveyard to his hand. Direct attacks from The Zombie Vampire and Imsety dropped Yao down to 2000 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Peters used the effect of The Zombie Vampire to send the top 4 cards of each Deck to the Graveyard and Special Summon a Starliege Seyfert. He sent Seyfert and his Vampire to the Graveyard to Link Summon S:P Little Knight and used its effect to banish a Seyfert in Yao’s Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Dragonling from his hand and used its effect to send Wulf to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned the Wulf with its effect and then used Wulf and Dragonling to Xyz Summon Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn. He used its effect to send 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, including a Dragonling, allowing him to draw 1 card from his Deck. Then, he Link Summoned Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess with 3200 ATK by using 4 monsters as Link Materials. He banished 3 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to Summon Levianeer and shuffled a random card from Yao’s hand into his Deck, dropping him down to just 2 cards in his hand. At that point, time in the round was called! Peters was up 8000 Life Points to 2000 Life Points. At the end of Main Phase 2, Peters was declared the winner.
