Round 1 Feature Match: Juan Garcia vs. Casey Schiller

July 20th, 2024

Kicking things off here at the NAWCQ, we have Juan Garcia Dueling against Casey Schiller in this Round 1 Feature match! Garcia is using a Salamangreat deck, a strategy that he has become incredibly familiar with after playing it for a long time. On the other hand, we have Schiller playing the Mimighoul deck, a brand new strategy that just debuted in The Infinite Forbidden, but there’s a twist: he sides out the Mimighoul cards and sides in the Tenpai Dragon engine! One of these Duelists will be starting off the tournament with a 1-0 record, while the other will be fighting from behind with a 0-1 start. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Schiller won the dice roll and decided to go first! His opening hand contained Mimighoul Master, Lightning Storm, Crossout Designator, and two copies of Dimension Shifter. Schiller started by Normal Summoning Mimighoul Master, and Garcia responded by activating Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, destroying the Master! However, Schiller still added Mimighoul Archfiend from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Archfiend to Garcia’s field in face-down Defense Position, then ended his turn.

Garcia started his turn by activating Cynet Mining, discarding Salamangreat of Fire to add Lady Debug from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Debug, adding Salamangreat Gazelle to his hand, then used Debug as Link Material to Link Summon Salamangreat Balelynx, and used Balelynx to search for Salamangreat Sanctuary. Next, he activated the effect of Salamangreat Spinny in his hand, discarding it to increase Balelynx’s Attack Points, and this allowed him to activate his Gazelle from hand, Special Summoning it and sending Salamangreat Charge from his Deck to the Graveyard. He then activated Spinny’s effect in his Graveyard, Special Summoning it back to the field, and used Spinny and Gazelle to Xyz Summon Salamangreat Miragestallio. He activated Miragestallio’s effect to Special Summon Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from his Deck. Garcia used Miragestallio and Balelynx to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf, used Jack Jaguar to make another Balelynx underneath the Sunlight Wolf, and used Sunlight Wolf’s effect to add Gazelle back to his hand.

Next, Garcia activated Sanctuary, and used Sunlight Wolf to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf and add Charge back to his hand. He then used Sunlight Wolf and Balelynx to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames! He activated Princess’s effect, Special Summoning Salamangreat of Fire from the Graveyard, and activated its effect to add Salamangreat Weasel from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Will of the Salamangreat, Special Summoning Spinny out of the Graveyard, then Special Summoned Weasel and used Weasel and Spinny to Synchro Summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Horse Prince. He activated Horse Prince’s effect to Special Summon Code of Soul from the Deck, activating its effect. He used Princess and Code of Soul to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix, and thanks to Code of Soul, used Raging Phoenix to Link Summon another Raging Phoenix! Weasel allowed Garcia to Special Summon Spinny to Schiller’s field, while Raging Phoenix searched for Salamangreat Roar. Finally, Garcia activated the effect of his Princess in the Graveyard, targeting the Salamangreat of Fire and the Spinny he Special Summoned to Schiller’s field, destroying both targets and summoning the Princess. Garcia triggered the effect of the Raging Phoenix in his Graveyard, Special Summoning it back to the field, and with several big monsters on board, Garcia was able to attack for game and win the first Duel!

Duel Two

Garcia started his turn by activating Sales Ban, calling Nibiru the Primal Being! He then Normal Summoned Salamangreat Foxy, searching for Salamangreat Circle, then activated Circle to search for Salamangreat Gazelle. He used the Foxy to Link Summon Salamangreat Balelynx, then activated the Gazelle in his hand; he was able to Special Summon it, but Schiller negated its effect with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Garcia used Gazelle and Balelynx to Link Summon Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze, used Hiita to Special Summon Ash Blossom from Schiller’s Graveyard, and used Hiita and Ash to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames. Finally, he used Princess to Special Summon Gazelle, and used Gaaelle and Princess to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix! He activated Salamangreat Sanctuary, using Raging Phoenix to Link Summon another Raging Phoenix and search for Salamangreat Roar. He Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.

Schiller’s opening hand contained Lightning Storm, two copies of Sangen Summoning, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He then drew Crossout Designator for turn! He started by activating Lightning Storm, attempting to destroy Garcia’s set cards, but Garcia responded with Salamangreat Roar, negating Lightning Storm. Next, Schiller activated Summoning, using its effect to search for Tenpai Dragon Genroku and discarding the other Summoning from his hand. He activated the effect of Genroku, Special Summoning it, and Garcia activated Droll & Lock Bird as Chain Link 2, stopping both players from adding cards from their Decks to their hands for the rest of the turn. Schiller activated the effect of Genroku, Tributing it to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Chundra from his Deck, then proceeded to the Battle Phase.

In the Battle Phase, Garcia activated Infinite Impermanence, targeting Chundra, but Schiller responded with Crossout Designator, declaring Impermanence, banishing another copy of it from his Deck and stopping his monster’s effect from being negated! Schiller declared an attack with Chundra and activated its effect to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Fadra from the Deck. He then used Fadra to Special Summon Genroku from the Graveyard. He used Fadra’s effect to Synchro Summon during the Battle Phase, Synchro Summoning a Sangenpai Bident Dragion. He activated Bident Dragion’s effect, Special Summoning Chundra, but Garcia activated the effect of the Princess in his Graveyard, destroying his own Raging Phoenix and Schiller’s Bident Dragion! However, Garcia activated the effect of his Raging Phoenix to Special Summon it back. Schiller used Chundra to attack the Princess, activated Bident Dragion’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it and destroy Salamangreat Sanctuary, and ended his turn.

Garcia started by activating the effect of his Princess, Special Summoning Gazelle. However, when Garcia attempted to activate Gazelle’s effect, Schiller responded with another Ash Blossom! He used Gazelle and Princess to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf. Schiller activated the effect of Genroku, tributing it to Special Summon another Chundra from his Deck. However, in response to the Summon, Garcia activated the effect of the Princess in his Graveyard, destroying Chundra and Raging Phoenix on the field and Special Summoning it. This then allowed Garcia to trigger the effect of his Raging Phoenix in the Graveyard, Special Summoning it underneath Sunlight Wolf, allowing him to use Sunlight Wolf to add Salamangreat Foxy back to his hand. He Normal Summoned Foxy, adding Salamangreat of Fire from his Deck to his hand. He used Foxy and Sunlight Wolf to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf, adding Salamangreat Roar back to his hand. He entered the Battle Phase, used Princess to attack Schiller’s Bident Dragion, and then attacked with Salamangreat Raging Phoenix to win the game.

Garcia takes the Round 1 victory and starts off the tournament with a 1-0 record!
