Welcome Back to the 2024 North America WCQ!

July 20th, 2024

Yesterday, sixteen Duelists competed in the World Qualifying Points Playoff, and two of them earned invitations to compete at the 2024 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship in September. Ruben Penaranda and Jose Santiago used their Fiendsmith Snake-Eye Decks to secure their invitations and become the first two Duelists who will represent North America at the World Championship. Today, a brand-new tournament will begin. 2600 Duelists who qualified to compete are currently registered for the tournament, and by the end of the day tomorrow, four of them will be added to the list of Duelists with the honor of representing North America at the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship.

New cards from the recently released The Infinite Forbidden booster set has created a competitive environment that has never been seen before by competing Duelists. Many Duelists have been expecting Fiendsmith cards to take the top tables by storm, and the results of yesterday’s World Qualifying Points Playoff reinforced that expectation for many Duelists. But other strategies from The Infinite Forbidden, including those using the Mimighoul, Millennium, and White Forest themes, are also present in the tournament. Many Duelists are hoping those archetypes will carry them to the top of the competition. The release of new cards in the Gimmick Puppet and Tenpai Dragon themes have also inspired some Duelists to pick those strategies back up this weekend and stake their victory in this weekend’s tournament on Decks using those new cards.

For most of the Duelists in attendance this weekend, this is the highest-stakes tournament that they will play in all year. Four Duelists will earn the honor of competing in this year’s Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship along with paid travel and accommodations, plus a variety of other incredible prizes. Others will take home some nice participation prizes, but will leave with the disappointment of needing to wait one more year before getting another shot at winning the honor of competing in the most prestigious Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME tournament.

The Duelists are shuffling up their Decks and Round 1 is about to begin. It’s almost time to Duel!
