Round 10 Feature Match: Mario De Micco vs. Rennick Bruno

October 13th, 2024

Mario De Micco from Montreal, Canada and Rennick Bruno from Cape Coral, Florida are both currently 8-1 in YCS Niagara Falls. Mario just took third place at YCS Lille a few weeks ago, and now he’s looking to do even better this weekend. Bruno has never made it into the Top Cut of a YCS, so he’s excited to have another shot at it this weekend. Both players have a good chance of making it into the Top 32 on tie-breakers, regardless of whether they win or lose, but a victory in this Swiss Round will guarantee one of them a spot in the Top Cut. De Micco is using a Tenpai Dragon Deck, while Bruno is using a Yubel Deck featuring Millennium monsters. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Bruno won the die roll and chose to go first.

He started off the Match with Nightmare Throne and used its effect to destroy Spirit of Yubel from his Deck. He activated Spirit of Yubel’s effect, and De Micco Chained the effect of the Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Bruno Special Summoned Yubel from his Deck, allowing De Micco to draw a card with Fuwalos’s effect. Next, Bruno activated Opening of the Spirit Gates and used its effect to add Dark Beckoning Beast from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and then sent Yubel and Dark Beckoning Beast to the Graveyard to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama. De Micco drew an Infinite Impermanence with the effect of his Fuwalos and then Bruno used his Yama’s effect to add Unchained Soul of Sharvara from his Deck to his hand. Next, Bruno sent Dark Beckoning Beast and Yubel from his Graveyard back into his Deck to Special Summon Phantom of Yubel, allowing De Micco to draw another card. Bruno used the effect of Opening of the Spirit Gates next by discarding Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and De Micco Chained Dominus Impulse to negate its effect. Bruno Set a Set Rotation to his back row and then destroyed it with Sharvara to Special Summon Sharvara from his hand. He sent Sharvara and Yama to the Graveyard to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. De Micco drew another card thanks to the effect of Fuwalos, and Bruno Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained from his Deck with Sharvara’s effect.

De Micco drew Tenpai Dragon Chundra and added it to his hand of Tenpai Dragon Paidra, Lightning Storm, Infinite Impermanence, Forbidden Droplet, Sangen Kaimen, and 2 copies of Tenpai Dragon Genroku. He activated Lightning Storm to destroy all of the cards in Bruno’s back row. Bruno Chained his Abominable Chamber to Special Summon Yama and then used Yama’s effect to add Sharvara to his hand. Next, De Micco activated Infinite Impermanence to negate Phantom’s effect and then Normal Summoned Tenpai Dragon Paidra. He Set Sangen Summoning from his Deck to his field and then flipped it. Next, he revealed Chundra from his hand and Special Summoned it. He Tuned his monsters together to Synchro Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion and used its effect to Special Summon Paidra from his Graveyard. He Tuned Paidra with Bident Dragion to Synchro Summon Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion and then tried to enter his Battle Phase. Still in the Main Phase, Bruno Special Summoned Sharvara from his hand by destroying his Attack Position Phantom of Yubel. De Micco finally entered his Battle Phase and activated Sangen Kaimen. He added Tenpai Dragon Fadra to his hand and Special Summoned it in Attack Position. On its Summon, he used Fadra’s effect to Special Summon Chundra from his Graveyard. He attacked Yama with Transcendent Dragion and used Chundra’s effect to Special Summon a Paidra from his Deck. Next, Fadra attacked and destroyed Sharvara. Chundra attacked Unchained Soul of Rage next, and neither monster was destroyed. That third attack allowed him to return Sangenpai Bident Dragion from his Graveyard with its effect and attack Unchained Soul of Rage to destroy it. Paidra attacked directly next, dropping Bruno down to 4500 Life Points. De Micco used Paidra’s effect to Tune it with Bident Dragion and Synchro Summon Trident Dragion next! He activated its effect, and Bruno immediately conceded realizing that he was about to take way more than 8000 points of damage!

Mario De Micco uses Mulcharmy Fuwalos to draw a bunch of extra cards on the first turn of the Duel, and then easily takes a victory in his first Battle Phase of the Duel! Rennick Bruno chose to go first in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Bruno started off Duel 2 by Normal Summoning Lacrima the Crimson Tears and used its effect to send Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Lacrima to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem and then Tributed it to Special Summon Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck with its effect. He returned Lacrima from his Graveyard to his Deck to Special Summon Engraver from his Graveyard and then equipped it with Requiem by using Requiem’s effect. He sent Requiem and Engraver to the Graveyard to Summon Necroquip Princess and then sent Necroquip Princess and the other Engraver to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. He activated Sequence’s effect, but De Micco negated it by activating Dominus Impulse from his hand! Bruno Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

De Micco drew Tenpai Dragon Fadra for his turn and added it to his hand of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Tenpai Dragon Chundra, Forbidden Droplet, and Tenpai Dragon Genroku.

He Normal Summoned Fadra and then activated Chundra’s effect in his hand to Special Summon it. He entered his Battle Phase and then attacked Sequence with Chundra. He used Chundra’s effect in the Damage Step to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra and used Paidra’s effect to add Sangen Kaimen to his hand. Chundra destroyed the Sequence in battle, dropping Bruno down to 7700 Life Points. Paidra attacked directly next. Then, De Micco used Chundra’s effect to try to Synchro Summon. Bruno flipped Dimensional Barrier declaring Synchros, and De Micco Chained Paidra’s effect to Tune it with Chundra and Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion. He attacked directly with Bident Dragion and used Fadra’s effect in the Damage Step to Special Summon Fadra back from his Graveyard. Bruno dropped down to 3400 Life Points from the attack, and then a direct attack from Paidra dropped Bruno to 1700 Life Points. Still in the Battle Phase, De Micco activated Sangen Kaimen. He added Paidra to his hand and then Special Summoned it in Attack Position. A direct attack from Paidra dropped De Micco down to 0 Life Points.

A key Dominus Impulse shuts down Bruno’s first turn, allowing De Micco to take a swift victory in Duel 2! Mario De Micco will be advancing to the Top 32 with his Tenpai Dragon Deck.
