Top 4 Feature Match: Ryan Yu vs. Ryan Carrigan
We are down to the Top 4 here at YCS Niagara Falls! Ryan Carrigan is from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Ryan Yu is from Toronto, Ontario.
Both Duelists knew each other and recognized that it had been some time since they had last played each other! Yu is playing Sky Striker and Carrigan is playing Labrynth! Two Decks that are making a shocking scene here this weekend as most of the competition was not prepared for either of them. Sadly, only one of these two Duelists can move on to the finals.
It’s Ryan vs. Ryan. Which Ryan will reign supreme? Which one will lose his name (that’s how they do it in Canada, apparently)?
Carrigan’s opening hand was Transaction Rollback, Arianna the Labrynth Servant, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Labrynth Stovie Torbie, and Labrynth Chandraglier.
Carrigan started the Duel by Normal Summoning Arianna the Labrynth Servant and activated its effect to search for Labrynth Cooclock. He activated Cooclock, then activated Labrynth Chandraglier. He Set Big Welcome Labrynth, and then activated Cooclock’s Graveyard effect and Special Summoned it! Carrigan activated Big Welcome Labrynth, Special Summoned Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle, and returned his Cooclock to his hand.
Carrigan activated Lovely’s effect and chained Labrynth Chandraglier’s effect in the Gravyard. Lovely destroyed the Lightning Storm in Yu’s hand. He activated Lovely Labrynth’s effect and targeted his Big Welcome Labrynth, then chained Labrynth Stovie Torbie’s effect discarding Transaction Rollback, then chained his Rollback to copy Big Welcome Labrynth’s effect!
Resolving the chain, Carrigan Special Summoned Ariane the Labrynth Servant and bounced Arianna, resolved his Stovie Torbie by Setting Welcome Labrynth from the Deck, then he reset his Big Welcome Labrynth that started it all. Carrigan then activated Ariane the Labrynth Servant and chained Labrynth Stovie Torbie. He Special Summoned Stovie, drew Trap Trick, and then Special Summoned Arianna. He Link Summoned S:P Little Knight with Stovie and Lovely, then Xyz Summoned Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir with his two Labrynth Servants.
After all of that, Carrigan ended his turn.
Yu drew for his turn and activated Upstart Goblin and drew another Upstart Goblin! He immediately activated it. Yu then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye, and Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He went to the Battle Phase and Carrigan activated Welcome Labrynth! Carrigan Special Summoned Arias the Labrynth Butler, and on the resolution of the chain Carerigan flipped his Big Welcome Labrynth, Yu chained Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and targeted Lovely, Carrigan chained S:P Little Knight’s effect targeting itself and Hayate, Yu chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor targeting S:P!
Yu negated and took control of S:P, then banished Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle with Shark Cannon, then Big Welcome Resolved and summoned Arianna and bounced his Bagooska. In a new chain, Carrigan activated Arianna the Labrynth Servant to draw a card and chained Labrynth Stovie Torbie to Special Summon from the Graveyard. He then Set Trap Trick, then he activated Labrynth Cooclock from his hand! Yu tried to attack directly with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and Carrigan activated his newly Set Trap Trick. Carrigan banished and Set a copy of Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon and then immidiately activated it. He chained Stovie Torbie’s effect and sent Chandraglier from his hand to Set Welcome Labrynth, flipped his monsters face-down, and then added back Cooclock.
Yu moved to his Main Phase 2, and paused to think for a moment before passing his turn.
Carrigan drew Dominus Impulse for his turn and Flip Summoned both his monsters, he attacked directly with Arianna the Labrynth Servant and Arias the Labrynth Butler and then activated Welcome Labrynth and summoned Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle, he activated Cooclock and then flipped up his Big Welcome Labrynth and Yu conceded the first game!
A flurry of Labrynth combos gets Carrigan the first game of the match!
Carrigan started the second Duel with Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle, Labrynth Cooclock, Arianna the Labrynth Servant, Labrynth Chandraglier, and Ariane the Labrynth Servant.
“Please just don’t open any more broken than last game” Yu said.
“Oh watch this…” said Carrigan, looking at his impressive hand.
Carrigan started the second game by Normal Summoning Arianna the Labrynth Servant and activated its effect to get Arias the Labrynth Butler. Then, he activated Labrynth Cooclock and Arias the Labrynth Butler. Then, he Special Summoned Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle and used Cooclock’s effect to add itself back. Labrynth Chandraglier was activated, pitching Cooclock to set Big Welcome Labrynth. When he activated Big Welcome, Yu chained Dominus Impulse, and Carrigan chained Arias the Labrynth Butler. Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle’s effect was activated and reset Big Welcome and then Carrigan ended his turn.
In the Draw Phase of Yu’s turn, Carrigan activated Big Welcome Labrynth and Special Summoned Ariane the Labrynth Servant and bounced his Arias the Labrynth Butler. He activated Ariane, Arianna, Lovely Labrynth, and Chandraglier’s effects. He drew Labrynth Stovie Torbie, and Trap Trick. Yu went to his Main Phase and activated Upstart Goblin.
Yu activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones and Special Summoned a Sky Striker Ace Token. Carrigan activated Arias the Labrynth Butler and then Set Trap Trick, he activated Labrynth Cooclock and then flipped his newly set Trap Trick to get Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon. He activated Daruma Cannon to get rid of Yu’s Token.
Yu activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! He added Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and then drew a card. Yu activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and then activated another Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! The second Engage added Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and then Yu drew another card. Yu activated Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and banished Arias the Labrynth Butler.
“Normal Summon the goat,” Yu said as he placed Sky Striker Ace – Raye onto the field. He went into the Battle Phase and had Raye attack Arianne, then activated Raye’s effect to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. Yu activated Kagari’s effect to add back Engage and then attacked and destroyed the Lovely Labrynth. In his Main Phase 2, he activated Engage to grab Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and drew another card.
Yu Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku with Kagari, Set 1 card, and then went to his End Phase and added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! and used Multirole’s effect to Set a copy of Engage and Shark Cannon from his Graveyard.
Still in the End Phase, Carrigan activated Labrynth Chandraglier and discarded Cooclock to Set Big Welcome Labrynth. Yu had Cosmic Cyclone! He banished the Big Welcome and then ended his turn.
Carrigan drew Arianna the Labrynth Servant. He activated Stovie Torbie and sent it and Arianna to the GY to get Welcome Labrynth. He then activated Cooclock, but Yu had Shark Cannon to banish it. Carrigan Flip Summoned Arianna the Labrynth Servant and then banished Big Welcome Labrynth from his GY to bounce Arianna, then activated Stovie and Chandraglier. He added back the Chandraglier and Special Summoned Stovie. He Normal Summoned Arianna and tried to activate it but was stopped by Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor.
Stovie Torbie was used to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! Carrigan activated Ty-Phon and returned Arianna to the hand. He went to end his turn.
During the End Phase, Yu activated the effect of Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and set Engage and Widow Anchor.
Yu drew for his turn. He flipped a Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and added Sky Striker Ace – Roze, then drew a card. Yu then activated Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! and targeted Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis. Carrigan chained Welcome Labrynth and summoned Arianna the Labrynth Servant. Arianna’s effect was activated and Yu chained Widow Anchor. He took control of Arianna, then Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy with Arianna and Shizuku.
Yu activated his other Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and added Linkage and drew a card. He activated Dharc and targeted Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle and then activated Lovely’s effect to set Dominus Impulse. Yu Normal Summoned Roze, then Linked all three for Accesscode Talker! Carrigan conceded at this point.
Both Duelists just need to win 1 more Duel to get to the finals!
Carrigan opted to start the Duel and had Pot of Extravagance, Welcome Labrynth, Infinite Impermanence, Cosmic Cyclone, and Arianna the Labrynth Servant.
Carrigan started off with Pot of Extravagance! He chose to banish six cards but was stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Carrigan followed up by Normal Summoning and activating Arianna the Labrynth Servant to grab Big Welcome Labrynth. He then Set 4 cards from his hand! He passed his turn.
Yu drew for his turn. In the Standby Phase, Carrigan flipped Welcome Labrynth, Yu looked over his cards and sighed before nodding to show Carrigan could resolve his card. Carrigan Special Summoned Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck.
In the Main Phase, Yu activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones and Special Summoned a Sky Striker Ace Token, then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate with it. He went into the Battle Phase and Carrigan activated Infinite Impermanence! Yu chained to it with Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and targeted Arianna. Yu tried to end his Battle Phase, Carrigan activated Big Welcome Labrynth, but Yu had another Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring!
In his Main Phase 2, Yu activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, Carrigan chained his Cosmic Cyclone to banish it! Yu resolved Engage and added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! He activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and then used Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to destroy Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle, then Link Summoned Kagari and added back and used Afterburners again to destroy Arianna, then he Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku.
During the End Phase, Yu activated Multirole’s effect and Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and then used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck.
Carrigan drew Labrynth Stovie Torbie for his turn and Normal Summoned it. He Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis with it and then activated its effect to return Shizuku to the Extra Deck. He attacked directly with TY-PHON and then went to his Main Phase 2. He ended his turn.
Yu drew and immediately activated Pot of Desires! He quickly banished 10 cards and drew 2 more, then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye and drew an extra card. Yu Normal Summoned Ray, and then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and used its effect to add back and activate Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!! This time for Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon, he drew an extra card with Engage’s effect.
Yu set 1 card and then activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect targeting the new card. Carrigan chained Big Welcome Labrynth and bounced his TY-PHON. Multirole sent a Triple Tactics Thrust to the Graveyard with its effect.
In a new chain, Carrigan activated Labrynth Stovie Torbie and chained Welcome Labrynth to reset it from the Graveyard. Yu activated a Triple Tactics Thrust and added Triple Tactics Talent! He activated Talents and drew 2 more cards, then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kaina with Kagari. He activated Sky Striker Ace – Roze’s effect from the hand, and then chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his hand, and then chained Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon. He summoned Arianna with Shark Cannon, took control of Stovie, and then Special Summoned Roze.
Yu continued his turn and Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy with Arianna and Kaina, he activated Dharc and Special Summoned Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle and then Link Summoned Accesscode Talker!
Carrigan offered the handshake and that’s it!
