Round 5 Feature Match: Cameron Taylor Neal vs. Marshall Emery Demorest III

November 9th, 2024

We’re halfway into the first day of Dueling in the November 2024 Remote Duel YCS! We have two talented Duelists for this Feature Match, starting with Cameron Neal from Dallas, Texas. Neal has taken first place in both a UDS and a YCS, an accomplishment very few Duelists can claim. Next up is Marshall Demorest, from Connecticut, who made a huge splash with a Top 4 finish over the summer at the NA WCQ, then represented North America at the World Championship.

This Match pits Neal’s Sinful Spoils Rescue-ACE Deck against Demorest’s Tenpai Dragons. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Neal won the die roll and played first. He started with Deception of the Sinful Spoils, Tributing Psy-Framegear Delta to add The Hallowed Azamina to his hand. He played Hallowed, Demorest Chained Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Neal Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Hallowed resolved, sending Deception to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Azamina Mu Rcielago. It added WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to his hand, and then Neal returned Mu Rcielago to his Extra Deck to get Hallowed back. He played Hallowed, then Chained WANTED. He added Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand, then Hallowed sent WANTED to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Azamina Illia Silvia. He used WANTED’s Graveyard effect, putting Deception back in his Deck to draw a card. He Special Summoned Diabellstar, sending Infinite Impermanence to the Graveyard, and it Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He flipped up Original, sending Diabellstar to the Graveyard to Special Summon Rescue-ACE Hydrant. Hydrant put Rescue-ACE Air Lifter in his hand, and he Normal Summoned it to get ALERT! in his hand. He played that to put Rescue-ACE Turbulence in his hand. He used Hydrant and Air Lifter to Link Summon I:P Masquerena. Then he banished Hydrant and ALERT! to Special Summon Turbulence, which Set CONTAIN!, EXTINGUISH!, RESCUE!, and EMERGENCY! from his Deck. He Set one more back row card.

Demorest started with Sangen Summoning, and Neal Chained I:P Masquerena. He used it with Turbulence to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, which banished Sangen Summoning. Demorest thought a moment, and he conceded! Neal had a full back row, Illia Silvia, and Little Knight to fight through – Demorest just couldn’t see a way past all that with his remaining cards.

Duel 2

Demorest chose to play second. Neal played WANTED in his Draw Phase, getting Diabellstar. He Special Summoned Diabellstar, pitching a second copy of WANTED, and its effect Set Deception. He activated it, Tributing Diabellstar to add The Hallowed Azamina to his hand. He activated it, and Demorest Chained two copies of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Neal Fusion Summoned Azamina Mu Rcielago, sending Deception to the Graveyard, and Demorest drew two cards. Mu Rcielago’s effect let him find Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. He used WANTED’s Graveyard effect, putting Deception back to draw a new card. He activated Triple Tactics Thrust, but Demorest had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Neal returned Mu Rcielago to his Extra Deck to get Hallowed back in his hand. He played it again, sending Original to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Azamina Illia Silvia. Then he banished Original from the Graveyard to add Hydrant to his hand, putting Diabellstar on the bottom of his Deck. Neal Set one card in his back row.

Demorest started with Infinite Impermanence on Illia Silvia. He followed up with Pot of Prosperity, banishing three cards to add Tenpai Dragon Genroku to his hand. He Special Summoned Genroku, Tributing it for its effect to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra. Paidra Set Sangen Summoning, and he used it to add Tenpai Dragon Chundra to his hand, discarding Infinite Impermanence. He activated Tenpai Dragon Chundra’s effect in his hand, and Neal had Dominus Impulse. Demorest moved to the Battle Phase, then activated Sangen Kaimen. He added another Paidra to his hand, then Special Summoned Chundra. He attacked with Paidra, and Chundra’s effect Special Summoned Tenpai Dragon Fadra. Paidra lost the battle with Illia Silvia, but nothing happened thanks to his Tenpai effects. Demorest used Paidra and Chundra to Synchro Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion, which revived Chundra. Bident Dragion attacked Illia Silvia, and Fadra revived Paidra. Illia Silvia was destroyed, and everything else attacked directly, dealing half damage due to Pot of Prosperity. Demorest tuned Bident Dragion to Paidra for Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion, then revived Bident Dragion with its own effect. He attacked directly with Transcendent and Bident. Finally, he used Fadra and Bident Dragion to Synchro Summon Trident Dragion, destroying Sangen Summoning and Chundra with its effect to let it attack three times. Sangen Summoning’s effect doubled Trident Dragion’s ATK, letting Demorest punch straight through his own Pot of Prosperity to end the Duel!

Duel 3

Neal chose to have Demorest play first this time. Demorest started by setting one back row card.

In Neal’s Draw Phase, Demorest activated Dimension Shifter! Neal matched Demorest with one back row card.

Demorest Normal Summoned Genroku and attacked directly. He used Genroku’s effect, and Neal activated Dominus Impulse. Demorest Set another back row card.

Neal flipped up WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, adding Diabellstar to his hand. He Special Summoned it, sending away a second WANTED, and it Set Deception of the Sinful Spoils. He flipped that up, Tributing Diabellstar to get The Hallowed Azamina. He activated it, and Demorest responded with Rivalry of Warlords. Hallowed sent Deception to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Azamina Mu Rcielago, which added Original to his hand. He used WANTED’s effect, putting Deception back to draw a card. Then he used Hallowed’s effect in the Graveyard, returning Mu Rcielago to the Extra Deck to get Hallowed back. This got him out of the Illusion lock from Rivalry, but he decided a new Illusion was the best course of action. He played Hallowed again, sending Original to the Graveyard to bring out Azamina Illia Silvia. He used Original’s effect, putting Diabellstar back to get Hydrant in the hand. Illia Silvia attacked directly, and Neal Set one back row card.

Demorest Set a monster.

Neal sent Illia Silvia to attack Demorest’s Set Fadra, which survived the battle with its effect. Neal used WANTED, putting Original back to draw a card. He Set one more spell or trap.

Demorest played Harpie’s Feather Duster, destroying RESCUE! and Bonfire. He Normal Summoned Paidra and used its effect, prompting Neal to negate it by Tributing Illia Silvia. Demorest sent Fadra and Paidra to attack directly.

Neal used Hallowed, returning Illia Silvia to his Extra Deck. He Normal Summoned Hydrant, and Demorest had Ash Blossom. Neal used ALERT! next, putting Turbulence in his hand. He tried to Special Summon Turbulence, banishing the ALERT! and RESCUE! from his Graveyard, but Demorest had Dominus Impulse to negate the effect. Neal sent Hydrant to crash into Fadra, then banished Hydrant to Special Summon Rescue-ACE Preventer in Defense Position.

Demorest put his monsters in Defense Position and passed.

Neal Normal Summoned a new Hydrant, using it to get Air Lifter. He passed the turn, discarding Air Lifter due to his hand size.

Demorest Link Summoned Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres and Set a card.

Neal used Hydrant’s effect to add a new Preventer to his hand. He Special Summoned it by banishing Air Lifter. He switched the other Preventer to Attack Position, sending it to attack Heavenly Spheres. Demorest responded with Heavenly Spheres’s effect, returning one Preventer to the hand. He tried using Sphere’s other effect to Special Summon a Dragon, but Neal had Dominus Impulse. Now with no monsters in the way, Preventer attacked directly. Neal switched Hydrant to Defense Position, and discarded Turbulence to hand size.

Demorest played Chundra. He attacked Preventer, and when Neal tried using Preventer’s effect, Demorest flipped up Infinite Impermanence to negate it. Chundra Special Summoned Fadra, and Fadra Special Summoned Paidra. Paidra Set Sangen Summoning. Still in the Battle Phase, he used Chundra and Paidra to Synchro Summon Bident Dragion, which revived Paidra. Fadra and Bident attacked Preventer, doing nothing. He used Bident and Fadra for Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion, forcing Neal’s monsters into Attack Position! He’d attacked three times, letting him Special Summon Bident Dragion from his Graveyard and destroy his own Sangen Summoning. That doubled Bident Dragion’s ATK, and it crushed the Attack Position Hydrant to end the Match!

Marshall Demorest is your victor, with Tenpai Dragons!
