Ruben Penaranda from Miami, Florida and Rico Eichelberger from Switzerland are both currently 4-1 in the North America Remote Duel YCS, and now they’re facing off in this Round 6 Feature Match! Ruben Penaranda is the current Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Champion, and he earned that title by winning the World Championship this year with his Fiendsmith Yubel Deck. Now, he’s using a Fiendsmith Yubel Deck once again this weekend, hoping to achieve similar success. But his opponent won’t make that easy for him. Rico Eichelberger took second place at YCS Guayaquil, Ecuador last weekend, and now he’s chasing a first place finish with his Kashtira Azamina Snake-Eye Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Eichelberger started off the Match by activating Bonfire to add Snake-Eye Ash from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Snake-Eyes Poplar from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect in his hand to Special Summon it in Defense Position and used its on-field effect to add Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to place Snake-Eyes Diabellstar from his Deck into his back row. He used his Ash’s effect by sending Ash and Diabellstar to the Graveyard and Special Summoned Snake-Eye Oak from his Deck. He used its effect to Special Summon Ash from his Graveyard. Next he used Ash and Poplar as Link Materials to Link Summon I:P Masquerena and used Poplar’s effect to put Snake-Eyes Diabellstar into his back row from his Graveyard. He Special Summoned it by placing Poplar into his back row and then used Oak’s effect to send Oak and Poplar to the Graveyard and Special Summon a Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon. Next, he activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to add Diabellstar the Black Witch from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it by sending Kashtira Birth from his hand to his Graveyard and activated its effect. Penaranda activated Infinite Impermanence to negate the Diabellstar’s effect. Next, Eichelberger sent Flamberge Dragon and the Black Witch to the Graveyard to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. He used the Flamberge Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Poplar and Oak back to his field and then sent Little Knight and Oak to the Graveyard to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames. He used the Promethean Princess’s effect to Special Summon Flamberge Dragon back to the field. Next, he used Flamberge Dragon’s effect to place S:P Little Knight from his Graveyard into his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix to get Promethean Princess off of his field and Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Penaranda activated Piri Reis Map and gave up 4000 Life Points to add Samsara D Lotus from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir. Eichelberger used his Divine Temple’s effect to Special Summon S:P Little Knight and then Penaranda activated his Fenrir’s effect. Eichelberger Chained Little Knight’s effect, targeting Fenrir and Little Knight to banish them, and then Chained Infinite Impermanence to negate Fenrir’s effect first. Next, Penaranda activated the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver to discard it and add Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. He activated the Tract to add Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and then discard Lurrie. He Special Summoned Fabled Lurrie with its effect and then used it as a Link Material to Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Next, he used his Requiem’s effect to Special Summon an Engraver from his Deck. Penaranda attempted to enter his Battle Phase, but Eichelberger used his Masquerena’s effect while still in the Main Phase and Link Summoned Underworld Goddess of the Closed World by using Penaranda’s Engraver and a bunch of his own monsters – including Flamberge Dragon – as Link Materials. He used his Flamberge Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Poplar and Oak from his Graveyard and used Poplar’s effect to add an Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his Deck to his hand. Next, Penaranda tried to Special Summon an Engraver from his Graveyard, but the Engraver’s effect was negated by the effect of Eichelberger’s Underworld Goddess. Penaranda Normal Summoned Dark Beckoning Beast next and activated its effect, but Eichelberger negated its effect with another Infinite Impermanence! With nearly every play he made stopped by Eichelberger, Penaranda conceded the Duel.

Penaranda started off Duel 2 by Special Summoning Kashtira Unicorn in Defense Position. He activated its effect to add Kashtira Birth from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Dark Beckoning Beast and used its effect to add Opening of the Spirit Gates from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and added another Dark Beckoning Beast from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Nightmare Throne and added Spirit of Yubel to his hand. He returned Spirit of Yubel and Dark Beckoning Beast from his hand to his Deck to Special Summon Phantom of Yubel from his Extra Deck in Attack Position. He activated the effect of the Fiendsmith Engraver in his hand next by discarding it. He added Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the Fiendsmith’s Tract to add Fabled Lurrie to his hand, discarded the Lurrie, and then used Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon Lurrie to the field. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem and then Tributed the Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from his Deck. He used Lacrima’s effect to send Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Link Summoned Unchained Soul Lord of Yama and used its effect to add Unchained Soul of Sharvara to his hand. He used the effect of an Engraver in his Graveyard to Special Summon it and then sent Yama and Unicorn to the Graveyard to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. Next, he used Sharvara’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand and destroy Soul of Rage. Then he used the effects of Soul of Rage and Yama. Yama Special Summoned Lacrima and Soul of Rage returned Lurrie to Penaranda’s hand. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Sequence next and Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained from his Deck with the effect of the Sharvara he used in the Link Summon. Next, he used Sequence’s effect to Fusion Summon Aerial Eater. He used Aerial Eater’s effect to send Samsara D Lotus from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used the effect of his Opening of the Spirit Gates to discard Lurrie and Special Summon the Lotus. Next, he used Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it back to his field. He used his Tract’s effect in the Graveyard by banishing it, and Fusion Summoned Fiendsmith Desirae by using monsters on his field as Fusion Materials. He used the effect of the Sequence in his Graveyard to equip it to Desirae and then Tributed Lotus to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel. He used the Spirit’s effect to Set Nightmare Pain from his Deck. Next, he flipped up the Nightmare Pain and used its effect to destroy Spirit of Yubel and add Gruesome Grave Squirmer to his hand. He Special Summoned Yubel from his Deck with the Spirit’s effect and added to his hand and then Special Summoned Yubel – Terror Incarnate with Nightmare Throne’s effect. He used Phantom of Yubel and Terror Incarnate as Link Materials to Link Summon Muckraker From the Underworld. Next, he Special Summoned Gruesome Grave Squirmer from his hand and used its effect to destroy the same Gruesome Grave Squirmer. He banished Gruesome Grave Squirmer to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel back from his Graveyard and then used Spirit of Yubel and Yubel as Xyz Materials to Xyz Summon Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times in Defense Position. Next, he Special Summoned another Phantom of Yubel by sending 2 cards from his Graveyard back into his Deck. He used Muckraker’s effect to Special Summon Engraver by discarding Kashtira Birth and then Xyz Summoned D/D/D Wave High King Caesar before ending his turn.

Eichelberger activated Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Caesar and then Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir from his hand. He used its effect to add another Fenrir from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned a Diabellstar the Black Witch from his hand by sending a Fenrir from his hand to his Graveyard. He activated Diabellstar’s effect, and Penaranda used his Varudras’s effect to negate it. Then Penaranda detached an Xyz Material from Varudras to destroy the Fenrir. Next, Eichelberger Normal Summoned Snake-Eyes Poplar and activated its effect to add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his Deck to his hand. Penaranda activated Abominable Chamber of the Unchained to Special Summon Unchained Soul of Rage and then used the Soul of Rage’s effect to use the Soul of Rage and Eichelberger’s Black Witch as Link Materials. He Link Summoned S:P Little Knight and used Little Knight’s effect to banish Poplar. Eichelberger Special Summoned Kashtira Unicorn next, and then activated Kashtira Birth. Penaranda activated his Little Knight’s effect to banish the Little Knight and the Unicorn. Next, Eichelberger activated Birth’s effect to Special Summon Fenrir. He activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye by sending Kashtira Birth to the Graveyard, and Penaranda used his Desirae’s effect to negate the Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye. With his Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye negated, Eichelberger conceded.

Eichelberger activated Deception of the Sinful Spoils to start off the third Duel. He activated its effect by Tributing a Droll & Lock Bird from his hand, but lost out on its effect to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Eichelberger activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils and added a Diabellstar the Black Witch from his Deck to his hand. He sent Deception to the Graveyard to Special Summon the Black Witch and used the Black Witch’s effect to Set Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his Deck to his field. He activated it by sending his Black Witch to the Graveyard. Penaranda Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Eichelberger Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Eichelberger Special Summoned Snake-Eye Ash but lost out on its effect to Penaranda’s Infinite Impermanence! Next, Eichelberger banished WANTED from his Graveyard and returned a Sinful Spoils card from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw a card. He Set a card to his back row before entering his End Phase. In his End Phase, he used the effect of the Deception in his Graveyard to Set it back onto the field.

Penaranda activated Fiendsmith’s Tract to add Fabled Lurrie to his hand and discard it. He used Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Fiendsmith Engraver. Next, he Normal Summoned Dark Beckoning Beast and used its effect to add Opening of the Spirit Gates to his hand. He activated it, but Eichelberger Chained Cosmic Cyclone and paid 1000 Life Points to banish it! Next, Penaranda activated Nightmare Throne! He used its effect to add Samsara D Lotus to his hand and then Normal Summoned the Lotus. He activated its effect and Tributed it to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel from his Deck. He used the Spirit’s effect to Set Nightmare Pain from his Deck and then flipped it. He used its effect to destroy his Spirit of Yubel and add Gruesome Grave Squirmer from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Yubel with the Spirit’s effect and added to his hand and then Special Summon Yubel – Terror Incarnate with Nightmare Throne’s effect. He used Engraver and Dark Beckoning Beast to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence and then used Sequence’s effect to Fusion Summon Aerial Eater. He used Aerial Eater’s effect to send an Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used his Terror Incarnate and Yubel as Link Materials to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama. He used Yama’s effect to add Unchained Soul of Sharvara from his Deck to his hand. Next, he returned a Samsara D Lotus and Terror Incarnate from his Graveyard to his Deck to Special Summon a Phantom of Yubel from his Extra Deck and then sent Phantom and Yama to the Graveyard to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. He used Aerial Eater and Sequence as Link Materials to Link Summon Muckraker and then Special Summoned Aerial Eater from his Graveyard with the Arial Eater’s effect. Next, he Special Summoned Sharvara from his hand by destroying Soul of Rage. He used the effects of Soul of Rage and Yama in the Graveyard. Soul of Rage returned Dark Beckoning Beast from his Graveyard to his hand and Yama’s effect Special Summoned Spirit of Yubel from his Graveyard and destroyed it. He Special Summoned Yubel with Spirit’s effect and then Special Summoned Gruesome Grave Squirmer from his hand destroyed the Gruesome Grave Squirmer. He banished Gruesome Grave Squirmer from the Graveyard to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel and then combined Aerial Eater and Sharvara to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar. He Xyz Summoned Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times next by combining his two Level 10 monsters. He Special Summoned Engraver next, and then equipped it with the Sequence in his Graveyard by using the Sequence’s effect. Eichelberger quickly conceded, acknowledging it was over.
