Mahmut Sungurlu from Turkey is currently 5-2 in the Remote Duel YCS, and Ashik Najib from Atlanta, Georgia is 5-1-1. Now, they’re Dueling against one another in the penultimate Swiss Round of the weekend. Sungurlu is using a Labrynth Deck, while Najib is using an Azamina Fire King Snake-Eye Deck. Both of these Duelists still have a shot at making the Top 32 cut, but neither one of them can afford to lose another Match if they hope to make that Top Cut. The stakes are high in this Round 8 Feature Match! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Mahmut Sungurlu started off Duel 1 by Normal Summoning Arianna the Labrynth Servant and using its effect to add Labrynth Labyrinth to his hand. He activated it and then Set 2 cards to his back row before passing his turn.

Najib activated Bonfire and added Snake-Eye Ash from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to add Snake-Eyes Poplar from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Poplar from his hand with its effect and activated its on-field effect to add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his Deck to his hand. Sungurlu flipped Welcome Labrynth, but Najib negated it by Chaining Dominus Impulse from his hand. Next, Najib sent Ash and Poplar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He discarded Oak from his hand to activate its effect targeting Sungurlu’s face-down card as Chain Link 1 and used Poplar’s effect in the Graveyard as Chain Link 2 to try to put the Poplar into his back row. Sungurlu Chained the Ice Dragon’s Prison that was targeted by Knightmare Phoenix’s effect to Special Summon the Poplar to his field as Chain Link 3. Next, Najib activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to add Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand. He Special Summoned it by sending Sacred Fire King Garunix from his hand to his Graveyard, then activated its effect to Set Deception of the Sinful Spoils from his Deck to his field. He flipped Deception face-up and used its effect by Tributing his Black Witch to add The Hallowed Azamina from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated The Hallowed Azamina, but Sungurlu negated its effect with Dominus Impulse. Najib activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye by sending Deception to the Graveyard next. He Special Summoned Legendary Fire King Ponix from his Deck and used its effect to add Fire King Sanctuary to his hand. He activated it and placed Fire King Island into his Field Spell Card Zone with its effect. He used the Island’s effect to destroy Ponix and add Fire King Avatar Arvata to his hand. He used the effect of the Sacred Fire King Garunix in his Graveyard to Special Summon it and then used its on-field effect to destroy a Fire King High Avatar Kirin from his Deck. He used Kirin’s effect to Special Summon Arvata and destroy Labrynth Labyrinth. Next, he sent Garunix and Knightmare Phoenix to the Graveyard to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames. He used its effect to Special Summon Oak from his Graveyard and used Oak’s effect to Special Summon Ash. He used Ash’s effect by sending Ash and Oak to the Graveyard and Sungurlu immediately conceded.

Duel Two

Sungurlu started off Duel 2 by activating the effect of the Labrynth Chandraglier in his hand. He sent it to the Graveyard and discarded an Ice Dragon’s Prison to Set a Welcome Labrynth from his Deck and then Set 3 more cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Najib drew a card and then Sungurlu activated Welcome Labrynth in his Draw Phase. Najib Chained Domninus Impulse to negate its effect. Next, Najib flipped Big Welcome Labrynth. He Special Summoned Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle and returned it to his hand, then activated the Lady Labrynth’s effect in his hand to Special Summon it to his field. Next, Najib activated Bonfire to add Snake-Eye Ash from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to add Snake-Eyes Poplar from his Deck to his hand. He used Poplar’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand, then used its on-field effect to add Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his Deck to his hand. That prompted Sungurlu to flip Different Dimension Ground! Najib Chained the effect of Fire King High Avatar Kirin in his hand and destroyed his Poplar to Special Summon the Kirin. After the Different Dimension Ground resolved, he used his Poplar’s effect to place Poplar in his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He then used his Ash as a Link Material to Summon Relinquished Anima. He used Anima and Kirin as Link Materials to Link Summon S:P Little Knight next, and targeted Sungurlu’s back row card to banish it. Sungurlu Chained the targeted card – Cosmic Cyclone – to banish the Poplar in Najib’s Spell & Trap Card Zone. Najib Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Sungurlu drew a card and then switched Lady Labrynth into Attack Position. He attacked S:P Little Knight to destroy it and then Set a card to his back row.

Najib Normal Summoned Fire King Courtier Ulcanix and activated its effect. Sungurlu Chained another Different Dimension Ground and Naji Chained his face-down WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to add a Diabellstar the Black Witch from his Deck to his hand and prevent Sungurlu from using his Lady Labrynth’s effect! Najib destroyed Flamberge Dragon from his hand and added a Sacred Fire King Garunix from his Deck to his hand with the Ulcanix’s effect. He activated Garunix’s effect in the hand to Special Summon it and then activated its effect on the field to destroy an Ulcanix from his Deck and increase his Garunix’s ATK by 400. Next, he sent an Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch from his hand and used the Black Witch’s effect to Set a Deception from his Deck. He flipped Deception and activated its effect. He Tributed the Black Witch to add The Hallowed Azamina from his Deck to his hand and then activated it. He sent Deception to the Graveyard and Special Summoned Azamina Ilia Silvia. Next, he banished WANTED from his Graveyard and returned a Sinful Spoils card from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw a card. Sacred Fire King Garunix attacked and destroyed Lady Labrynth with its 3100 ATK, then Najib’s remaining monsters attacked directly. Najib Set a card to his back row in Main Phase 2 and then Set Deception from his Graveyard in the End Phase with the Deception’s effect.

Sungurlu drew a card with no other cards in his hand or on his field. He briefly considered his next play and then conceded the Duel.
