The final Swiss Round is here, and we have a battle of Fiend Decks! First up is Dillon Kolacz, from Austin, Texas, playing a Fiendsmith Yubel Deck. His opponent is Darian Nguyen, from Toronto, Ontario, using a combination of Fiendsmith, Magical Musketeer, and Unchained!

Duel 1

Kolacz started the Duel with one Set card in his back row.

Nguyen began with Fiendsmith’s Tract, adding Fiendsmith Engraver to his hand, then discarding Magical Musketeer Starfire. Kolacz activated Droll & Lock Bird. Nguyen Normal Summoned Magical Musketeer Calamity, then Link Summoned Magical Musketeer Max. Kolacz hit that with Effect Veiler. Nguyen attacked directly with Max. He Set one back row card to finish the turn.

Kolacz passed with no play.

Nguyen played Abomination’s Prison, and Kolacz used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Nguyen activated Fiendsmith Engraver’s effect in his hand, adding another Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. He played Tract to find and discard Fabled Lurrie. He Special Summoned Lurrie, using it and Max to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama. Its effect put Unchained Soul of Sharvara in his hand. He Special Summoned Engraver from the Graveyard, returning Lurrie to his Deck. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Sequence, using its effect to fuse Engraver, Max, and Calamity into Fiendsmith’s Desirae! He then used Desirae and Sequence to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday. Desirae’s effect sent Kolacz’s Set Abominable Chamber of the Unchained to the Graveyard. Agnumday revived Desirae and equipped to it, and Nguyen equipped Sequence to it as well. He Set his own Abominable Chamber and destroyed it to Special Summon Sharvara. Chamber’s effect Special Summoned Unchained Soul of Shyama, and Kolacz had Nibiru, the Primal Being! Nguyen got a 6800/5400 Primal Being Token in Defense Position, losing everything else! Sharvara’s effect Set a Chamber from Nguyen’s Deck. He destroyed his Set Escape of the Unchained to Special Summon Shyama from the Graveyard. That let him use Yama’s effect to Special Summon Sharvara. Escape Special Summoned Abominable Unchained Soul. He activated its effect to destroy Nibiru. He had 7000 total damage this turn, which was exactly enough after Max’s direct attack earlier!

Duel 2

Kolacz started the second Duel by activating Engraver, adding Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. He played it, finding and discarding Fabled Lurrie, and Special Summoned it. Nguyen responded with Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Kolacz thought a while, and decided to take the Mulcharmy challenge. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which then Special Summoned another Engraver. He equipped Requiem to Engraver, and used both cards to play Necroquip Princess. He returned Requiem to the Extra Deck to Special Summon Engraver, and Link Summoned Sequence. Sequence then fused two Engravers and Lurrie into Desirae. He Normal Summoned Samsara D Lotus, using it to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel, which then Set Nightmare Pain. He flipped it up, using it to destroy Spirit of Yubel and add Gruesome Grave Squirmer to his hand. Spirit’s effect then Special Summoned Yubel. He activated Squirmer, and Kolacz activated Mulcharmy Purulia! Squirmer hit the field, and Nguyen added to his ever growing hand of cards.

Squirmer destroyed Yubel, and Yubel Special Summoned Yubel – Terror Incarnate. He used Squirmer and Sequence to Link Summon Unchained Soul Lord of Yama. He used that with Terror Incarnate to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Rage. He equipped Sequence to Desirae. He returned two monsters to the Deck to Special Summon Phantom of Yubel. He Special Summoned Sharvara, destroying Unchained Soul of Rage. Rage put Samsara D Lotus in his hand, and Yama’s effect Special Summoned Yubel. He used Sharvara and Yubel to Link Summon Muckraker From the Underworld, and Sharvara’s effect Set Chamber. Kolacz used Yubel from the Graveyard and Lotus from the hand for a second Phantom. He banished Squirmer to Special Summon Spirit of Yubel. Finally, he Set a back row card. In the End Phase, Darian had a whopping 19 cards in hand! He had to return four random cards to the Deck due to the limitations of the Mulcharmy cards.

Nguyen started by Normal Summoning Magical Musketeer Starfire. He played Ultimate Slayer in Starfire’s column, sending Elder Entity N’tss to the Graveyard to shuffle away one of the Phantoms. In a new Chain, N’tss destroyed Sequence and Starfire Special Summoned Magical Musketeer Calamity. He used Starfire to Link Summon Magical Musketeer Max, and Kolacz responded to Max’s effect with Phantom. The effect changed to destroy Kolacz’s Spirit of Yubel, which Special Summoned Yubel. Nguyen used Max to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, and used its effect. Kolacz responded with Chamber to revive Unchained Soul of Rage. Requiem Special Summoned Engraver from Nguyen’s hand. He equipped Requiem to Engraver, and Kolacz banished Requiem with Cosmic Cyclone. Nguyen then used Triple Tactics Talent in Calamity’s column, shuffling away Kolacz’s last card – a Nibiru.

Calamity revived Starfire. He used Calamity and Engraver to Link Summon Sequence. Kolacz tried using Rage, but Nguyen had a Forbidden Droplet to negate it, with plenty of cards to pay for it. He activated Sequence, fusing the Fiends from his Graveyard into Desirae. He played Fiendsmith’s Tract, adding Engraver to his hand and discarding Lurrie. He Special Summoned Lurrie, using it and Starfire to Link Summon Yama. Yama added Unchained Twins – Sarama to his hand. He used Sequence and Desirae to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, then used Desirae’s Graveyard effect to send Yubel to the Graveyard. He used Little Knight and Yama to Link Summon Unchained Soul of Anguish. Anguish used Kolacz’s Desirae to Link Summon Accesscode Talker! Accesscode activated its effect to gain 3000 ATK, and Kolacz’s Desirae couldn’t activate due to Accesscode’s effect! Accesscode destroyed Muckraker by banishing Anguish. He Set Chamber and destroyed it to Special Summon Sharvara. Yama revived Desirae, and Chamber Special Summoned Shyama. He activated Sequence, equipping it to Desirae. He used Accesscode to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! That let him bounce away Kolacz’s last monster, leaving him open for lethal direct attacks!
