Top 8 Feature Match: Mario De Micco vs. Bryan Dejesus

November 10th, 2024

Mario De Micco from Montreal, Canada took 4th place at YCS Niagara Falls four weeks ago with his Tenpai Dragon Deck, and a month prior he got 3rd place at YCS Lille with his Tenpai Dragon Deck. This weekend he’s looking for a YCS victory, and he put his hopes into his Tenpai Dragon Deck once again. Bryan Dejesus from Puerto Rico has made it to Day 2 of a YCS before, but is currently experiencing his first-ever Top Cut finish. He’s excited to see how far he can take it with his Azamina Fire King Snake-Eye Deck, but only one of these Duelists will be able to advance to the Top 4. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Dejesus won the die roll and chose to go second in the first Duel.

De Micco activated Sangen Kaimen in his Main Phase and added a Tenpai Dragon Genroku from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect to Special Summon it and Dejesus Chained the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Next, De Micco Tributed his Genroku to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra from his Deck and activated its effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. He Normal Summoned Tenpai Dragon Fadra next and used its effect to Special Summon Genroku back from his Graveyard. He sent Paidra and Fadra to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres and then Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Dejesus drew a card and quickly conceded, either unable or unwilling to make a play.

A poor hand for Bryan Dejesus allows Mario De Micco to take a quick victory in the first Duel! De Micco is just one more win away from the Top 4!

Duel Two

Dejesus chose to go second again.

De Micco Normal Summoned Genroku and activated its effect by Tributing it. He Special Summoned Tenpai Dragon Fadra from his Deck and used its effect to Special Summon Genroku back from his Graveyard. Next, he Set a card face-down in his Spell & Trap Card Zone and ended his turn.

Dejesus activated Deception of the Sinful Spoils and activated its effect by Tributing Sacred Fire King Garunix from his hand; but De Micco Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate the effect. He activated Bonfire next and added Snake-Eyes Poplar from his Deck to his hand. He activated Poplar’s effect in his hand to Special Summon it and then activated Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye by sending Deception from his field to his Graveyard. De Micco Chained the effect of Dominus Impulse in his hand to negate it! Next, Dejesus activated the effect of Fire King High Avatar Kirin in his hand. He destroyed an Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in his hand to Summon it and then activated the effect of Sacred Fire King Garunix in his Graveyard in a new Chain. He Special Summoned it and then used its on-field effect to destroy a Fire King Courtier Ulcanix from his Deck. He used Ulcanix’s effect to Special Summon Fire King High Avatar Garunix from his Deck and then sent Poplar and Fire King High Avatar Garunix to his Graveyard to Link Summon Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze. He used Poplar’s effect to put Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his Graveyard into his back row. Next, he activated Hiita’s effect to Special Summon Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from De Micco’s Graveyard. He combined Kirin with Sacred Fire King Garunix to Xyz Summon Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings. He detached an Xyz Material from it to activate its effect and target De Micco’s Infinite Impermanence for destruction, and De Micco Chained it to negate Garunix Eternity’s effect. Next, Dejesus used Ash Blossom and Hiita as Link Materials to Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames and used the Promethean Princess’s effect to Special Summon Kirin from his Graveyard. He used Garunix Eternity and the Promethean Princess as Link Materials to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix, and then used the Raging Phoenix as a Link Material to Summon Worldsea Dragon Zealantis. De Micco conceded, realizing he was defeated that turn.

The Match is going to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

De Micco chose to go first in Duel 3 and started off by Normal Summoning Tenpai Dragon Paidra. He activated its effect, but Dejesus Chained the effect of PSY-Framegear Gamma. He negated Paidra’s effect, destroyed Paidra, and then Summoned the Gamma – as well as a PSY-Frame Driver – from his hand. De Micco Set 3 cards to his back row and then Gamma and Driver were banished from the field in the End Phase.

Dejesus activated Bonfire to add Snake-Eye Ash from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it. He activated its effect and De Micco negated it with Infinite Impermanence. Next, Dejesus activated Fire King Sanctuary and used its effect to place Fire King Island in his Field Spell Card Zone. He activated its effect, but De Micco Chained Cosmic Cyclone! He paid 1000 Life Points and banished the Island! The Island’s effect activated to destroy Dejesus’s Ash in a new Chain. Dejesus ended his turn with no monsters on his field.

De Micco Normal Summoned Tenpai Dragon Fadra and activated its effect, but Dejesus Chained Dominus Impulse from his hand to negate it. Fadra attacked Dejesus directly and then De Micco ended his turn.

Dejesus activated another Bonfire next turn and added Snake-Eye Oak from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to try to Special Summon Snake-Eye Ash, but De Micco Chained Dominus Impulse to negate Oak’s effect. He also destroyed the Oak with the Impulse since he had a Trap Card – Infinite Impermanence – in his Graveyard.

De Micco attacked directly with Fadra on his next turn and then used its effect to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra from his Graveyard. He used Paidra’s effect to add Sangen Kaimen from his Deck to his hand and then attacked directly with Paidra. He activated Sangen Kaimen next, but Dejesus Chained Dominus Impulse to negate it. In Main Phase 2, De Micco sent Paidra to the Graveyard to Link Summon Striker Dragon and then Set a card to his back row.

Dejesus drew a card and then conceded, realizing he no longer had the cards to prevent De Micco from winning on the next turn.

Mario De Micco is once again advancing to the Top 4 with his Tenpai Dragon Deck!
