3rd Place Playoff Feature Match: Christopher Alexander Pyke vs. Michael Brandon Aviles
Each of these Duelists came up just shy of making their way to the Finals of YCS Anaheim. However, Christopher Alexander Pyke and Michael Brandon Aviles still made the Top 4, which means that they have a chance to earn a Super Rare copy of Anotherverse Solaria. Only one of these Duelists will be able to take this Championship Prize Card home, so this Duel will certainly be an intense one!
Duel 1
Pyke’s opening hand consisted of Sword Ryzeal, Ext Ryzeal, Bonfire, and two copies of Mulcharmy Fuwalos.
Aviles won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by activating Bonfire, adding Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice, activating its effect, and Pyke responded by activating the effects of both copies of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Aviles Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, then used its effect to add Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard and added Node Ryzeal to his hand, then used Ext, Ice, and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach Mereologic Aggregator to it. Aviles activated Ryzeal Cross, and then Pot of Desires! He Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.
Pyke started by activating his own Bonfire, adding Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. On resolution, Aviles activated Droll & Lock Bird! Next, Pyke Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Aviles Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Ext, and on resolution, used Cross to negate the effect of Ext. He then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, but when he activated its effect, Aviles Chained Crossout Designator, banishing his own Ice!
Pyke then Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, and used Sword and Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Mereologic Aggregator. He then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal and sent Pot of Desires from his hand to the Graveyard to use its effect. Aviles Chained Detonator’s effect, and Pyke Chained his Detonator’s effect to destroy Aviles’ Cross, then Aviles Chained his Detonator’s effect again to destroy Pyke’s Detonator, though on resolution, Pyke detached a material to save his Detonator from being destroyed. In the end, Pyke resolved Node to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal, and then ended his turn.
Aviles started his turn by activating another Bonfire, adding another Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, and used Aggregator’s effect to negate Pyke’s Detonator, as Pyke Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Aviles’ Ext. Aviles then Special Summoned Sword and Node from his hand, then activated Node’s effect, discarding Mulcharmy Fuwalos to Special Summon back Ext Ryzeal from the Graveyard. He used Ext, Sword, and Ice to make another Detonator, and in response to the summon, Pyke activated the effect of Nibiru the Primal Being from his hand, Tributing all monsters on the field! Aviles ended his turn.
Pyke started his turn by activating Bonfire and adding Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal, used Sword to add Ext to his hand, then used Sword and Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive! He activated Duo Drive’s effect, adding Ryzeal Plugin and Ryzeal Cross from his Deck to his hand. He activated Cross, then activated Plugin, Special Summoning Node. He activated Node’s effect, sending Pot of Desires to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice, then used Ice and Node to Xyz Summon Light Dragon @Ignister! He used Light Dragon’s effect to destroy the Primal Being Token, entered the Battle Phase, and attacked directly with all of his monsters to win the Duel!
Duel 2
Pyke opened the Duel with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Mulcharmy Purulia, Nibiru the Primal Being, and two copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.
During the Draw Phase, Pyke activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia, but Aviles Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Aviles started his turn by Special Summoning Ext Ryzeal and adding Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand, then Special Summoned Sword and added Ice Ryzeal to his hand. On resolution, Pyke activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Pyke drew a card as Aviles used Ext and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attached it with Mereologic Aggregator. Next, he activated Pot of Prosperity, but Pyke Chained his own Ash Blossom! Aviles Set 2 cards to his backrow and ended his turn.
Pyke started by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal. He used Aggregator to negate Detonator’s effect, and Aviles Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Ext. Next, Pyke Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal and searched for Ice Ryzeal, then Normal Summoned Ice and Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from the Deck. However, in response to the Summon, Aviles activated Dimensional Barrier, calling Xyz! Pyke Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Aviles started by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal and Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal from the Deck, then used Sword to add Ext to his hand. Next, he used Ice and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. He attempted to activate Duo Drive’s effect, but was met by Pyke’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Aviles proceeded to the Battle Phase, and used Detonator to attack Node, as well as Duo Drive to attack Ice. He then ended his turn.
Pyke started his next turn by Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal, and Aviles Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy the Sword as Pyke added Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, negating Detonator, but Aviles Chained the effect of Detonator to destroy itself as Pyke searched for Sword Ryzeal. On resolution, Aviles activated Ryzeal Plugin, targeting Detonator and attaching it with Ryzeal Plasma Hole and Sword Ryzeal. Pyke used Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir, then ended his turn.
Aviles Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, using Aggregator to negate Bagooska’s effect, as Pyke Chained Dimensional Barrier, calling Xyz! Aviles Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.
Pyke switched Bagooska to Attack Mode, then attacked Ext Ryzeal. He used Bagooska to Xyz Summon Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder, then attempted to activate Zeus’s effect, but Aviles Chained Dimensional Barrier, calling Xyz! He Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.
Aviles started his turn by activating Duo Drive’s effect, but Pyke Chained Infinite Impermanence! Pyke Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Tornado Dragon to the Graveyard and added Sword Ryzeal to his hand, then Special Summoned Sword and got Ice Ryzeal. He used Ext and Ice to Xyz Summon Number 60: Dugares the Timeless. He Normal Summoned Ice and Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from the Deck, but on resolution, Pyke activated the effect of Nibiru the Primal Being! Aviles ended his turn with just a Primal Being Token.
Pyke Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal but was met with Infinite Impermanence. He Set a card to his back row, changed Nibiru to Defense Position, and ended his turn.
Aviles changed the Primal Being Token to Attack Position, entered the Battle Phase, and attacked over Sword Ryzeal to win the second Duel!
Duel 3
Pyke opened with Crossout Designator, Ryzeal Plugin, Sword Ryzeal, Ice Ryzeal, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Pyke started by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, then Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from the Deck and added Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He used Sword and Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. When he activated its effect, Aviles Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Pyke Chained Crossout Designator, but Aviles also had Effect Veiler, negating Duo Drive’s effect.
Next, Pyke Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal and added Node Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Sword, used Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Number 60: Dugares the Timeless, then used Dugares’s effect to Draw 2 cards and discard 1. He Special Summoned Node, sending Dugares to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ext, then used Node and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator! He Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.
Aviles Set a monster in face-down Defense Position and ended his turn.
Pyke skipped his Draw Phase because of Dugares! He attempted to activate Duo Drive’s effect, but was met with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Pyke Chained the effect of Detonator to destroy Aviles’s face-down monster, which was the third copy of Ash Blossom! Pyke activated Ryzeal Plugin to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal and search for Ice Ryzeal. With a ton of monsters on the field and Aviles unable to defend himself, Pyke won the third Duel!
With the victory, Pyke takes third place at YCS Anaheim, earning himself a Super Rare copy of Anotherverse Solaria!
