Round 4 Feature Match: Ivan Ronald Cortez vs. Tyler Jack Pfeifer
Welcome to Round 4! We’ve got New Jersey Duelist Ivan Cortez here, playing a Destiny HERO Deck! He’s facing Tyler Pfeifer from Reno, Nevada, using Ryzeal! Fusions versus Xyz – who will come out on top?
Duel 1
Pfeifer won the dice roll and played first, starting with Bonfire. Cortez used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Pfeifer had Crossout Designator! That let Bonfire resolve, putting Ice Ryzeal in his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used it to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal. Sword put Ext Ryzeal in his hand. He Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Duo Drive, using its effect to add Ryzeal Plugin and Ryzeal Cross to his hand. He played Cross, then Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Ext put Node Ryzeal in his hand. He Special Summoned it, then Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator. Detonator attached Mereologic Aggregator from the Graveyard as a material. He used Cross to return two Ryzeals from his Graveyard to the Deck and draw a card. He Set one back row card to finish.
Cortez’s hand had another Ash Blossom, A Hero Lives, and two copies of Fusion Destiny. He drew Elemental HERO Stratos. He started with A Hero Lives, and Pfeifer had Ash Blossom to negate it. Cortez played Fusion Destiny next, sending Destiny HERO – Denier and Destiny HERO – Malicious to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Destiny HERO – Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer! He banished Malicious from the Graveyard to Special Summon another Malicious. He Normal Summoned Stratos and activated its effect to destroy spells and traps. Pfeifer Chained Detonator targeting Stratos, and Cortez responded with Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer. Pfeifer responded with Detonator again, targeting Malicious. Then he flipped Plugin to revive Ext Ryzeal and attach Ryzeal Plasma Hole to Detonator. Malicious was destroyed, and then Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer destroyed Stratos and Cross. Stratos’s effect resolved, but there was nothing left to destroy. In a new Chain, Ext put Sword in Pfeifer’s hand. Cortez banished Malicious, and Pfeifer used Detonator to destroy Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer. Phoenix Enforcer activated its effect in the Graveyard for next turn. Cortez used Denier’s effect in the Graveyard, and Pfeifer’s Detonator destroyed Malicious, detaching Mereologic Aggregator. Denier hit the field and activated, but Mereologic was Chain Link 2 and negated it.
In Pfeifer’s Standby Phase, Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer returned to the field. Pfeifer Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal, sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. He activated the effect of Ext, then the effect of Mereologic Aggregator targeting Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer. Cortez responded with the effect of Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer to destroy itself and Detonator, which had no materials to protect itself. Ext put Sword in Pfeifer’s hand, and he Special Summoned it. It added Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He stacked his monsters for Tornado Dragon, destroying Cortez’s Set Fusion Destiny with its effect. He Normal Summoned Ice next, which Special Summoned another Sword. He Xyz Summoned Detonator and attached Mereologic to it. Sword destroyed Denier in battle, and everything attacked directly to end the first Duel!
Duel 2
Cortez started this time with a hand of Triple Tactics Thrust, Foolish Burial, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Rivalry of Warlords, and Fusion Destiny. He led with Foolish Burial to send Elemental HERO Shadow Mist to the Graveyard, which added Vision HERO Vyon to his hand with its effect. He Normal Summoned Vyon, and Pfeifer hit it with Infinite Impermanence. Cortez played Fusion Destiny next, and Pfeifer had Ash Blossom to negate it. Cortez followed up with Triple Tactics Thrust to Set another Fusion Destiny. He Set Rivalry and then passed his turn.
Pfeifer Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, and Cortez responded to its effect with Rivalry. Ice resolved, Special Summoning Ext Ryzeal, and Ext then put Node Ryzeal in Pfeifer’s hand. He played Cross, then Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator. It attached his Ash Blossom as a material, then attacked over Vyon.
Cortez drew Favorite Contact. He flipped Fusion Destiny, sending Malicious and Denier to the Graveyard for Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer once more. It attacked, winning the battle thanks to its effect to reduce Detonator’s ATK. Pfeifer used Detonator’s effect to make it protect itself. In Main Phase 2, Cortez banished Malicious to Special Summon another Malicious. He activated Denier’s effect in the Graveyard, and it was negated by Pfeifer’s Ryzeal Cross. He used Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer next, and Pfeifer responded with Detonator to destroy Rivalry. Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer then destroyed Malicious and Cross. Cortez banished Malicious to Special Summon his third Malicious. He used it and Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer to Link Summon Xtra HERO Cross Crusader, but Pfeifer had Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill! Cortez Set Favorite Contact.
Pfeifer Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, and Cortez negated its effect with Ash Blossom. Pfeifer Special Summoned Node, then Xyz Summoned Duo Drive. It attached a monster from the Graveyard, then detached two materials to add Ryzeal Plugin and Ext Ryzeal to Pfeifer’s hand. He Special Summoned Ext, sending Mereologic to the Graveyard. Ext put Sword in his hand. He played Plugin to revive Node and attach Plasma Hole to Detonator. Then he Xyz Summoned Light Dragon @Ignister, destroying Cross Crusader. Duo Drive attacked, and Cortez flipped Favorite Contact. He Special Summoned Destiny HERO – Dangerous in Defense Position by returning two Malicious to the Deck. Duo Drive couldn’t win against Dangerous’s 2600 DEF, but Detonator attacked over Dangerous and Light Dragon @Ignister attacked directly.
Cortez drew with no hand and no field. It was… Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin. He banished Malicious to Special Summon another Malicious, then Normal Summoned Aqua Dolphin. He Link Summoned Cross Crusader to revive Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer, and Detonator destroyed Cross Crusader. Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer hit the field and attacked Duo Drive. After some math involving both monsters’ ATK modifying effects, Duo Drive went down. Cortez used Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer to destroy itself and Light Dragon @Ignister, which survived with its own effect.
Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer returned in the Standby Phase. Pfeifer Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, adding Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext, sending Mereologic to the Graveyard. Mereologic negated Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer, and Ext added another Sword to Pfeifer’s hand. He Xyz Summoned Number 60: Dugares the Timeless, and its effect doubled Detonator’s ATK! That gave him enough to end the Duel and the Match!
