December 7th, 2024

We’re halfway there! We’re in Round 5 here at YCS Anaheim, and the competition is fierce. Both Siming Yang and Diego Manuel Monetecinos are undefeated with 4-0 records. Yang is piloting the new Maliss Deck, while Montecinos is playing Fiendsmith Kashtira, a combination of engines that has become extremely popular recently. Let’s see which of these players will be able to keep their undefeated records in tact! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Montecinos won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by Normal Summoning Lacrima the Crimson Tears and sending Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. He used Lacrima to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then activated Requiem’s effect to Special Summon another Engraver from the Deck. He activated the effect of the Engraver in his Graveyard, returning Requiem to the Extra Deck, but Yang responded by activating the effect of Bystial Druiswurm in his hand, banishing the Engraver and Special Summoning Druiswurm! Montecinos Set 2 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

Yang’s opening hand consisted of Infinite Impermanence, Maliss <P> Dormouse, Gold Sarcophagus, and Fiendsmith Engraver, then he drew Allure of Darkness for turn! He started by Setting a card face-down, then Normal Summoned Maliss <P> Dormouse. He activated its effect, banishing Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck, then Special Summoned White Rabbit and used its effect to Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck. He used White Rabbit, Dormouse, and Druiswurm to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder! He used Druiswurm’s effect to send Montecinos’s Engraver to the Graveyard, and used White Binder to banish Montecinos’s Lacrima and his own Dormouse. Montecinos activated Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, attempting to destroy the White Binder. Yang responded by activating TB-11, banishing the White Binder as cost, and Montecinos Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! In a new Chain, Yang summoned his banished White Binder and Dormouse. He activated White Binder’s effect to try to Set a Trap Card, but Montecinos negated the effect of White Binder Infinite Impermanence.

Yang activated Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck, and then Special Summoned it with its effect by paying 300 Life Points. Next, he activated Gold Sarcophagus, banishing Dotscaper from his Deck, then Special Summoned Dotscaper as well! He used Dotscaper to Link Summon Link Decoder, then used Decoder, White Binder, and Dormouse to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom. He activated Ransom’s effect to add Maliss in Underground from his Deck to his hand, Special Summoned back Link Decoder, then activated Chessy Cat’s effect to banish Underground and draw 2 cards. He used Decoder, Ransom, and Chessy Cat to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, who had 3100 Attack Points thanks to the previous activation of Dormouse’s effect! Yang proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked, used Crypter’s effect to banish itself and Special Summon it with its Attack Points doubled, and attacked directly to win the first Duel!

Duel 2

Yang’s opening hand consisted of Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries, Dominus Impulse, Bystial Druiswurm, Book of Eclipse, and Mulcharmy Fuwalos in Duel 2.

Montecinos chose to go first! He started by activating Fiendsmith Engraver’s effect, discarding it to add Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. He then activated Tract, adding Fabled Lurrie to his hand and discarding it, then Special Summoning the Lurrie with Lurrie’s effect. Here, Yang chose to activate the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Montecinos used Lurrie to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then when Yang drew a card with Fuwalos’ effect, Montecinos activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird

Montecinos activated Requiem’s effect, Special Summoning Lacrima the Crimson Tears, then used its effect to send another Engraver to the Graveyard. He Normal Summoned Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill and used the two Monsters to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. However, in response to the summon, Yang activated Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries, revealing Fiendsmith’s Desirae in his Extra Deck to banish all copies of Desirae from Montecinos’s Extra Deck! Montecinos then activated Engraver’s effect in the Graveyard by returning Lurrie to the Deck, but Yang activated the effect of the Bystial Druiswurm in his hand, banishing the Engraver, so Montecinos ended his turn.

For turn, Yang drew another copy of Book of Eclipse! He made his way to the Battle Phase and used Druiswurm to attack Sequence, then in Main Phase 2 he Set 4 cards to his back row. Montecinos activated Lacrima’s effect in the Graveyard, returning it to the Deck and Special Summoning Requiem, then activated Requiem’s effect to Special Summon back the Lacrima and send another Engraver to the Graveyard. Yang then ended his turn.

Montecinos started his turn by activating Requiem’s effect in the Graveyard, equipping it to Lacrima, and Yang responded by activating Book of Eclipse, flipping Lacrima and his own Druiswurm face-down. However, Montecinos was able to Flip Summon Lacrima and equip it with Fiendsmith’s Sequence, then sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess! Montecinos activated the effect of the Engraver in his Graveyard, returning another Engraver to the Deck, but Yang Chained Dominus Impulse! Montecinos Normal Summoned Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill, then used Ghost Mourner and Necroquip to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, banishing Yang’s Druiswurm with its effect. He then ended his turn.

Yang drew Maliss <P> White Rabbit for turn! He Normal Summoned White Rabbit and activated its effect to Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck. Next, he activated Infinite Impermanence, targeting his opponent’s S:P Little Knight! Montecinos activated S:P’s effect, banishing it and White Rabbit. Before Yang could end his turn, Montecinos activated the effect of Lacrima in his Graveyard, returning it to the Deck to Special Summon back Fiendsmith’s Requiem from the Graveyard, then activated Requiem’s effect to Special Summon an Engraver from his Deck. S:P Little Knight and White Rabbit returned to their respective fields during the End Phase.

Montecinos started his turn by activating the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver in his Graveyard, returning Sequence to the Extra Deck to Special Summon it, then used the two copies of Engraver to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar! He used Caesar to attack White Rabbit, attacked his opponent directly with S:P Little Knight, and then ended his turn.

Yang started his turn by activating Book of Eclipse, attempting to turn off his opponent’s Caesar, but Montecinos Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it! Unable to break through Montecinos’s Caesar and S:P Little Knight, Montecinos conceded the second Duel.

Duel 3

Yang chose to go first in Duel 3! His opening hand contained Maliss <C> GWC-06, two copies of Dominus Impulse, and two copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Yang Set 3 cards to his back row, then ended his turn.

Montecinos started his turn by activating Pressured Planet Wraitsoth, and Yang Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Montecinos then Special Summoned Kashtira Unicorn from his hand and activated its effect to add Kashtira Birth to his hand. He entered the Battle Phase and attacked directly with Unicorn, allowing him to banish Yang’s Maliss <Q> White Binder from the Extra Deck with Unicorn’s effect! He then Normal Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and used Unicorn and Ash Blossom to Link Summon Moon of the Closed Heaven. He used Moon to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then activated Requiem’s effect, but was met with Yang’s Dominus Impulse! Montecinos activated Kashtira Birth and Special Summoned back Kashtira Unicorn, Set two cards to his back row, and ended his turn.

Yang drew Gold Sarcophagus for turn! He activated it and banished Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck, Special Summoned it with its effect, and then activated its on-field effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. He Special Summoned White Rabbit with its effect and then used the White Rabbit’s on-field effect to Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck. Montecinos used Unicorn’s effect to banish Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter from Yang’s Extra Deck. Yang used Dormouse and White Rabbit to Link Summon Splash Mage, used Mage’s effect to Special Summon Dormouse, then used Dormouse and Mage to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom. However, when Yang activated Ransom’s effect, Montecinos responded with Dominus Purge, negating the effect! Yang activated TB-11, banishing Red Ransom and Special Summoning Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck. He Special Summoned back the Ransom with its effect and banished Dotscaper from his Deck, then Special Summoned Dotscaper to the field with its effect. He used Dotscaper and Chessy Cat to Link Summon Haggard Lizardose, used Lizardose to banish Chessy Cat, and then Special Summoned back the Chessy Cat with its effect. Yang used Ransom, Lizardose, and Dotscaper to Link Summon Firewall Dragon Darkfluid – Neo Tempest Terahertz! He attacked Kashtira Unicorn with Terahertz, activating Terahertz’s effect to send Cyberse Desavewurm to the Graveyard in the Damage Step, and ended his turn.

During Montecinos’ Standby Phase, Yang activated Maliss <C> GWC-06, Special Summoning Maliss <Q> Red Ransom. Montecinos attempted to activate Dominus Purge to negate Red Ransom’s effect, but Yang banished Cyberse Desavewurm from his Graveyard to negate Purge! Montecinos then activated Kashtira Birth’s effect to attempt to Special Summon Unicorn back from his Graveyard, but Yang Chained Dominus Impulse, destroying Birth since Yang had a Trap Card in his Graveyard. Montecinos then Normal Summoned Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill. Normally not a very threatening move, Yang sensed that his opponent was about to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis, so he activated Terahertz’s effect, sending Enigmaster Packbit directly to the Graveyard and discarding a card to place Montecinos’ Ghost Mourner to the Spell/Trap Zone! Montecinos then ended his turn.

With Terahertz sitting at 8000 Attack Points, Yang proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked directly to end the Duel!

Yang is able to use his new Maliss Deck to make some unbelievably strong pushes and remain undefeated!
