Round 10 Feature Match: Dominic Couch vs. Mario De Micco

February 2nd, 2025

Dominic Couch from Chicago, Illinois is a 2-time YCS champion. He won back-to-back Team YCS events in Las Vegas in 2020 and 2023. Now, he’s Dueling against Mario De Micco from Montreal. De Micco is also a YCS Champion. He won YCS Remote Duel in November of 2025 with his Tenpai Dragon Deck, and had several Top 4 YCS finishes leading up to it. Now, both of these Duelists are looking for another YCS trophy this weekend. Couch is using a Ryzeal Deck, and De Micco is running a Fiendsmith Bystial Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Couch opened up with Metaltronus, Pot of Prosperity, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Node Ryzeal, and Sword Ryzeal. He activated Pot of Prosperity by banishing 3 cards from his Extra Deck face-down and excavated Ice Ryzeal, Pot of Desires, and Bonfire from the top of his Deck.

He added Ice to his hand and returned the other cards to his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned Ice and activated its effect, but lost out to De Micco’s Effect Veiler. Couch Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal next and activated its effect to add Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He combined Ice with Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and activated its effect, but lost out to another Effect Veiler. Next, he Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Eclipse Twins from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and used its effect to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He used Ext and Duo Drive as Xyz Materials to Summon Eclipse Twins in Defense Position and then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from his hand. He activated the Node’s effect by sending Fuwalos from his hand to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Sword from his Graveyard. He used Sword and Node to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and then used the Detonator’s effect to attach Eclipse Twins from his Graveyard to it as an Xyz Material. Couch Set Metaltronus and then ended his turn.

De Micco Normal Summoned Lacrima the Crimson Tears and activated its effect. Couch Chained his Detonator’s effect to destroy Lacrima and De Micco sent Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of Lacrima. Next, De Micco Special Summoned the Engraver by returning Lacrima to his Deck and activated the effect of Bystial Saronir to Special Summon it by banishing Ice Ryzeal from Couch’s Graveyard. He used Saronir and Engraver to Xyz Summon Goblin’s Crazy Beast! He activated its effect targeting Couch’s face-down Metaltronus, and Couch Chained it! He targeted Crazy Beast and Special Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON Sky Crisis from his Extra Deck with its effect negated to negate the Crazy Beast’s effect. Crazy Beast attacked Eclipse Twins in the Battle Phase to try to destroy it, and Couch used his detonator’s effect to detach Sword from Detonator and protect the Eclipse Twins. Next, De Micco Xyz Summoned Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder over Crazy Beast and used its effect by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from it. Couch Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Zeus and everything went to the Graveyard! De Micco activated Saronir’s effect as Chain Link 1 and Couch activated his Eclipse Twins’s effect as Chain Link 2. Couch Special Summoned Detonator with an Eclipse Twins attached as an Xyz Material and De Micco sent The Bystial Lubellion to his Graveyard with Saronir’s effect. Couch used Detonator’s effect to attach another Twins from his Graveyard to it as an Xyz Material, and then De Micco activated the effect of Engraver in his hand to add Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck to his hand. He activated it to get Fabled Lurrie from his Deck and discard it. He Special Summoned Lurrie, then used it to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima and then used Lacrima as an Xyz Material to Summon Typhon from his Extra Deck! He activated its effect to return Detonator to the Extra Deck and then ended his turn.

Couch drew Nibiru, the Primal Being and then Special Summoned Sword from his hand. He activated its effect, but lost out to De Micco’s Effect Veiler. Couch ended his turn, and De Micco Special Summoned Requiem to his field with the effect of the Lacrima in his Graveyard in the End Phase.

De Micco Special Summoned Engraver from his Graveyard by returning another Engraver to his Deck next turn, and then Tributed his Requiem to activate its effect and Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck. He used Lacrima’s effect to send Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Deck to his Graveyard. He equipped the Requiem to Lacrima and then used Requiem and Lacrima to Special Summon Necroquip Princess. Couch saw that he was suddenly very behind in the Duel, and lamented the fact that he didn’t Chain his Detonator’s effect to try to destroy Goblin’s Crazy Beast before negating its effect with Metaltronus. De Micco Xyz Summoned Constellar Ptolemy M7 and used its effect to add The Bystial Lubellion from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated its effect to add Bystial Magnamhut from his Deck to his hand and then activated Branded Regained. He banished Zeus from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magnamhut and then used the effects of Branded Regained and Magnamhut. He switched Typhon into Attack Position and then attacked Sword with Typhon to destroy it. He attacked directly with M7 and Magnamhut to drop Couch down to 1400 Life Points. In the End Phase, De Micco added Bystial Baldrake from his Deck to his hand.

Couch drew Effect Veiler and conceded.

Mario De Micco wins the first Duel with his Fiendsmith Bystial Deck!

Duel Two

Couch opened up Duel 2 with Bonfire, Sword Ryzeal, and 3 copies of Ext Ryzeal. De Micco activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia from his hand in the Standby Phase and then Couch activated Bonfire. He added Ice from his Deck to his hand and Normal Summoned it, allowing De Micco to draw a card. He activated Ice’s effect, and De Micco Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos from his hand! Couch Special Summoned Sword from his Deck, and De Micco drew another card. Couch added an Ice to his hand with Sword’s effect and then Xyz Summoned Abyss Dweller in Defense Position, allowing De Micco to draw again. Couch passed his turn, unwilling to give De Micco more cards.

De Micco drew a card and Couch used his Dweller’s effect.

De Micco activated the effect of The Bystial Lubellion in his hand and added Bystial Druiswurm from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of the Engraver in his hand by discarding it and added Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Magnamhut in his hand and Special Summoned it by banishing Engraver. He activated Magnamhut’s effect on the field, then sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon The Bystial Lubellion from his Graveyard. He used its effect to place Branded Regained from his Deck face-up to his field and then activated Fiendsmith’s Tract to add Lacrima from his Deck to his hand and discard a Fuwalos. He Normal Summoned Lacrima next and used its effect to send another Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Druiswurm’s effect in his hand to Special Summon it by banishing Engraver from his Graveyard, then used his Regained to return the Engraver to his Deck and draw a card. He used Lacrima and Druiswurm as Synchro Materials to Summon Chaos Angel and used the Angel’s effect to banish Abyss Dweller. He Special Summoned Bystial Baldrake from his hand next, and direct attacks from Chaos Angel, The Bystial Lubellion, and Bystal Baldrake wiped out all of Couch’s Life Points!

Mario De Micco takes a 2-0 victory and advances with an 8-1-1 record using his Fiendsmith Bystial Deck!
