Round 11 Feature Match: Nicholas Grissom vs. Daniel Nguyen
Round 11 is here, and we’ve got another Feature Match! Coming from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, we have Nicholas Grissom with a Fiendsmith Ryzeal Deck. This is the most popular Deck at the event so far, and it was improved with Supreme Darkness adding Eclipse Twins to the Deck. He’s facing Daniel Nguyen, here from Hamilton, Ontario, with Crystrons! This is another Deck buffed massively by Supreme Darkness, and Nguyen’s got a ton of the new cards today.
Duel 1
Nguyen started, with a hand of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring; Forbidden Droplet; Imsety, Glory of Horus; and two copies of Infinite Impermanence. He began by using Imsety, sending Droplet to the Graveyard, but Grissom had an Ash Blossom for it. Nguyen Set both copies of Impermanence.

Nicholas Grissom
Grissom started his turn with Fiendsmith’s Tract, and Nguyen used Ash Blossom to negate it. Grissom played Ice Ryzeal, and it was hit by Nguyen’s Impermanence. Grissom followed that up with Triple Tactics Talent to draw two cards. He Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, and used Ext’s effect to add Sword Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Sword, which added another Ice to his hand. He stacked Sword and Ext for Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Aggregator from the Graveyard. He attacked directly with Ice and Detonator, then Set one back row card.
Nguyen drew Crystron Smiger. He Normal Summoned it, then Link Summoned Clockwork Knight. Then he used Smiger’s effect in the Graveyard, and Grissom had a second Ash Blossom! Nguyen has no way to make further plays, and conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Nguyen began this time with a hand of Foolish Burial, Triple Tactics Thrust, Book of Moon, Crystron Sulfefnir, and Smiger. He led with Foolish Burial, sending Crystron Thystvern. He used Thystvern’s effect to add Crystron Tristaros to his hand. He Normal Summoned Tristaros, then discarded Smiger to Special Summon Sulfefnir, destroying Sulfefnir in the process. That let him use Sulfefnir’s effect to Special Summon Crystron Sulfador from the Deck. Sulfador then sent a Smiger and a Crystron Cluster to the Graveyard. He used Smiger’s effect in the Graveyard to add Crystron Inclusion to his hand. Then, he tuned Tristaros to Sulfador to Synchro Summon Crystron Eleskeletus! Its effect put Cluster in his hand. He activated Tristaros’s Graveyard effect, destroying Eleskeletus to Special Summon Sulfador and Sulfefnir from his Deck. Then, Eleskeletus Special Summoned the banished Tristaros. Grissom now activated Nibiru, the Primal Being!

Daniel Nguyen
Nguyen Chained Tristaros’s effect, Grissom Chained Effect Veiler, but Nguyen Chained with Book of Moon! Book flipped Tristaros face-down, letting it dodge Veiler. It Special Summoned Crystron Citree and tuned it to Sulfador for Samurai Destroyer. Nibiru then Tributed Destroyer and Sulfefnir, creating a 4600/2900 Primal Being Token in Defense Position. Samurai Destroyer then revived Sulfefnir. Nguyen activated Triple Tactics Thrust, finding Triple Tactics Talent, and he activated that to see Grissom’s hand of Fiendsmith Engraver, Bystial Druiswurm, and Node Ryzeal. He shuffled back the Engraver. Nguyen played Inclusion to add a new Tristaros to his hand. He then destroyed Inclusion to Special Summon Sulfador from his Graveyard. He stacked Sulfador and Sulfefnir for Cyber Dragon Nova, and Grissom now banished his Effect Veiler to Special Summon his Druiswurm in Attack Position, before Nguyen could Xyz Summon Cyber Dragon Infinity. Nguyen indeed used Nova to play Infinity and attach the Druiswurm with its effect. Nguyen then used Inclusion’s Graveyard effect to Special Summon Citree. He Set Cluster to finish his turn.
Grissom moved to the Battle Phase, sending Nibiru to attack Infinity. Nguyen activated Citree, bringing Sulfador to the field and using both Crystrons to play Eleskeletus. It put Thystvern back in his hand. Now thanks to Eleskeletus, Nibiru only had 2500 ATK! That was too weak to defeat Eleskeletus or Infinity, and Grissom nothing left!
Duel 3
Grissom started the final Duel, but Nguyen made the first play – a Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Grissom Normal Summoned Sword Ryzeal, and Nguyen hit that with Ash Blossom. Grissom played Fiendsmith’s Tract, adding Fiendsmith Engraver to his hand and discarding Fiendsmith in Paradise. He used Talent to see the rest of Nguyen’s hand: Sulfefnir, Citree, and Called by the Grave. Grissom sent back the Sulfefnir. He then used Engraver to add another Tract to his hand, and passed, waiting out the Mulcharmy.
Nguyen drew Tristaros. He Normal Summoned it, then Set Called by the Grave, and passed.
Grissom played Tract, and Nguyen Chained Tristaros. Grissom used Ash Blossom, knowing Called by the Grave was Set, and Nguyen thought a while. He chose not to activate his spell, allowing Ash to negate Tristaros. Tract put Lacrima the Crimson Tears in Grissom’s hand, and he discarded a spare Ash Blossom. He Normal Summoned Lacrima, sending an Engraver to the Graveyard. He stacked Lacrima and Sword Ryzeal for Ryzeal Duo Drive, then used its effect to add Ryzeal Cross and Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He activated Cross, then Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard. Ext added a new Sword to his hand, and he Special Summoned it. Nguyen flipped Called by the Grave to banish the other Sword from the Graveyard, negating the one on the field. Grissom Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Eclipse Twins as a material. He Special Summoned Engraver, returning the other Engraver. Engraver destroyed Tristaros in battle, then Duo Drive and Detonator attacked to drop Nguyen to 1500 Life Points.
Nguyen drew Mulcharmy Purulia. He Normal Summoned Citree, then Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis – but Grissom activated the Graveyard effect of Fiendsmith in Paradise! It sent Fiendsmith’s Desirae to the Graveyard, which then sent TY-PHON to the Graveyard! Nguyen passed the turn.
In Grissom’s Draw Phase, Nguyen activated Mulcharmy Purulia – then offered the handshake!
Nicholas Grissom takes the Match with Fiendsmith Ryzeal!
