Round 3 Feature Match: Liyn Garcia vs. Christopher Pyke
Liyn Garcia from Altamonte Springs, Florida and Christopher Pyke from Columbus, Ohio are both currently 2-0 in YCS Orlando, and now they’re facing off in Round 3! Garcia is using a Six Samurai Deck that includes Fiendsmith cards. His Deck’s power was boosted by recently released Six Samurai cards in the Rage of the Abyss booster set. Pyke is using a Fiendsmith Ryzeal Deck. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Garcia won the die roll and chose to go first.
He opened up with Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan, Six Strike – Sextuple Barrage, Shien’s Dojo, Called by the Grave, and Reinforcement of the Army. He activated Reinforcement of the Army and added Tactical Trainer of the Six Samurai from his Deck to his hand. He activated Shien’s Dojo and then Normal Summoned Tactical Trainer of the Six Samurai. Pyke activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos in his hand. Garcia added a Bushido Counter to his Dojo and then Special Summoned Kizan, adding another Bushido Counter to the Dojo. He Tuned Kizan with Tactical Trainer next and Synchro Summoned Legendary Lord Six Samurai – Shi En, allowing Pyke to draw a card off of the effect of Fuwalos. He added a Counter to the Dojo and used the effects of Tactical Trainer and Shi En. He added Six Strike – Double Assault to his hand with the Tactical Trainer and added Anarchist Monk of the Six Samurai from his Deck to his hand with Shi En’s effect. He activated Double Assault to Special Summon Kizan from his Graveyard, adding another Counter onto his Dojo. He Special Summoned Anarchist Monk from his hand next, adding a fifth Bushido Counter to his Dojo. Next, he sent the Monk and Kizan to the Graveyard to Link Summon Battle Shogun of the Six Samurai. He activated its effect by discarding Sextuple Barrage from his hand and Chained the effect of Anarchist Monk. He added Asceticism of the Six Samurai from his Deck to his hand with the effect of the Anarchist Monk and added Gateway of the Six to his hand with the effect of Battle Shogun. Next, he activated Gateway of the Six. He used the Gateway’s effect to remove 4 Bushido Counters from Dojo and add Kizan from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it linked to Battle Shogun, adding a Bushido Counter to his Dojo, a Bushido Counter to Battle Shogun, and 2 Bushido Counters to his Gateway. He removed 2 Counters from Gateway and 2 from Dojo to add another Kizan from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned it linked to Battle Shogun. He added 4 more Bushido Counters spread across the cards on his field and then used his two Kizans to Xyz Summon Number 60: Dugares the Timeless, allowing Pyke to draw another card with the effect of his Fuwalos. He used Dugares’s effect to detach 2 Xyz Materials and Special Summon Tactical Trainer from his Graveyard linked to Battle Shogun, adding 4 more Bushido Counters across his field. He removed 4 Bushido Counters from Gateway and added another Kizan to his hand with Gateway’s effect, and then Special Summoned Kizan linked to Battle Shogun to get 4 more Bushido Counters on his field. He sent Kizan and Tactical Trainer to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon another Legendary Lord Six Samurai – Shi En, gaining more Bushido Counters. That allowed Pyke to draw another card, and then Liyn removed 4 more Bushido Counters from his field to get another Kizan. He Special Summoned it linked to Battle Shogun, gaining more Counters, and then revealed the second part of his strategy.
He sent Kizan and Dugares to the Graveyard to Link Summon Moon of the Closed Heaven, allowing Pyke to draw another card, and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Fiendsmith’s Engraver from his Deck (giving Pyke another draw) and then equipped his Engraver with the Requiem. He sent Engraver and Requiem to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess, allowing Pyke to draw again, and then tried to Special Summon Engraver from his Graveyard by returning Moon of the Closed Heaven to his Extra Deck. Pyke Chained the effect of Bystial Druiswurm to try to banish the Engraver and Special Summon Druiswurm instead. Next, Garcia used the effect of his Gateway to get another Kizan, and Special Summoned it linked to Battle Shogun, gaining another 4 Counters. He sent Kizan and Necroquip Princess to the Graveyard to Link Summon Moon of the Closed Heaven again, giving Pyke another draw, and then got another Kizan with Gateway. He Special Summoned it, added more Counters to his field, then used Gateway to get another Kizan and Special Summoned that one too to gain more Bushido Counters. He sent Moon of the Closed Heaven and both Kizans to the Graveyard to Link Summon Saryuja Skull Dread and then removed 4 Bushido Counters from his field to add Legendary Six Samurai – Shinai from his Deck to his hand. He used Saryuja’s effect to Special Summon Shinai linked to Battle Shogun, adding 4 more Bushido Counters to his field. Next, he Special Summoned Kizan and gained some more Bushido Counters. He removed 4 more Bushido Counters from his field to add Legendary Six Samurai – Mizuho from his Deck to his hand. He sent Kizan and both of his Link Monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Firewall Dragon Singularity, allowing Pyke to draw another card off of his Fuwalos’s effect. Next, he used his Gateway’s effect to add another Shinai from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Mizuho, adding 3 more Bushido Counters to his field, and then Special Summoned Shinai. He used Mizuho’s effect to Tribute Shinai and destroy Singularity, and then used Shinai’s effect to add Kizan from his Graveyard to his hand. He Special Summoned Kizan and then used Kizan and Mizuho to Link Summon Battle Shogun. Pyke drew a card, and Garcia gained more Bushido Counters. He removed 4 Counters from his field to add another Mizuho to his hand and Special Summoned it linked to Battle Shogun, gaining 4 more Bushido Counters. He used Gateway’s effect to add Shinai to his hand and then Special Summoned it again to gain 3 more Bushido Counters. He Tributed Shinai with Mizuho’s effect and destroyed Mizuho. Shinai’s effect returned Mizuho to his hand. He Special Summoned it again and then used Gateway’s effect to add Shinai to his hand. He Special Summoned it, gaining more Bushido Counters, and announced that he was repeating the combo of Tributing Shinai with Mizuho to destroy Mizuho, and then Summoning them back to the field after returning them to his hand, until he had 7,000,000 Bushido Counters spread across his Battle Shogun, Dojo, and Gateway of the Six. After that, with Mizuho and Shinai on the field, he Tributed Shinai with Mizuho’s effect, this time returning Kizan from his Graveyard to his hand. He then returned Mizuho to his hand with Gateway and Special Summoned it (gaining more Bushido Counters) and then used Asceticism of the Six Samurai targeting Mizuho. Pyke Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Garcia finally used his Called by the Grave to banish the Ash Blossom and negate its effect. He Special Summoned Secret Six Samurai – Hatsume. He then used Mizuho’s effect to Tribute Shinai and destroy Mizuho, and returned Kizan to his hand from his Graveyard. He used Hatsume’s effect next. He banished Anarchist Monk and Shinai from his Graveyard and Special Summoned Tactical Trainer of the Six Samurai from his Graveyard. He Tuned Tactical Trainer with Hatsume to Synchro Summon Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. Next, he sent his Dojo to the Graveyard to Special Summon Great Shogun Shien. He Special Summoned Kizan next and then used Gateway to return his Battle Shogun from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck by removing 4 Bushido Counters from it. With a virtually unlimited number of Bushido Counters and the ability to return as many Six Samurai monsters as he wanted from his Graveyard to his hand with Gateway of the Six, he kept Link Summoning more copies of Battle Shogun and returning the ones he used as Link Materials to the Extra Deck by using Gateway. By doing so, he tried to make Pyke run out of cards in his Deck by making him draw a card each time from the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos; but after performing the same string of play several times to repeatedly Link Summon Battle Shogun and make Pyke draw, Pyke finally had the cards he needed to turn the Duel around – he activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being!
Garcia tried to negate it with one Shi En’s effect, but Pyke used Effect Veiler, and when Garcia tried to negate Veiler’s effect with another Shi En’s effect, he lost out to another of Pyke’s Veilers! All monsters on the field were Tributed by the effect of Nibiru, and with millions of Bushido Counters on his field, Garcia was suddenly out of steam! He conceded, devastated by the outcome of all of the combos he had performed.
Garcia chose to go first in Duel 2.
Duel Two
Garcia opened up Duel 2 with Anarchist Monk of the Six Samurai, Legendary Six Samurai – Shinai, and 3 copies of Shien’s Smoke Signal. In the Draw Phase, Pyke used the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Garcia used a Smoke Signal to add Anarchist Monk of the Six Samurai to his hand and then used another Smoke Signal to add Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki. He Normal Summoned Kageki, allowing Pyke to draw a card, and then Special Summoned Shinai from his hand, giving Pyke another card. He Special Summoned Anarchist Monk next, and Pyke drew another card. Garcia Tuned Kageki with Anarchist Monk to Synchro Summon Legendary Lord Six Samurai – Shi En. He used the effects of his Anarchist Monk and Shi En to add Cunning of the Six Samurai and Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan to his hand. He activated a third Smoke Signal to add Tactical Trainer of the Six Samurai from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Kizan, giving Pyke another card, and then Special Summoned Tactical Trainer, allowing Pyke to draw another card. Pyke activated Infinite Impermanence to negate the Shi En’s effect, and then activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being from his hand, Tributing all monsters on the field to Special Summon the Nibiru and a Primal Being Token! Garcia used his Tactical Trainer’s effect to add Six Strike – Double Assault to his hand and then conceded, realizing he had lost.
After drawing a ton of cards thanks to the effects of his Mulcharmy cards in both Duels, Christopher Pyke manages to win after drawing Nibiru, the Primal Being. Christopher Pyke is advancing with a 3-0 record using his Fiendsmith Ryzeal Deck… even though he didn’t use any Fiendsmith or Ryzeal cards in this particular Feature Match.
