3rd Place Playoff Feature Match: Daniel Munoz vs. Joe Winkler
We’ve got one more Feature Match, with some Prize Cards on the line! We’ve got Team YPFL up against the Chimmey Nguyen Fan Club, battling for 3rd Place and some Super Rare copies of Anotherverse Solaria! This Feature Match will see YPFL’s Daniel Munoz, with Maliss, face Chimmey’s Joe Winkler, with Ryzeal.
Duel 1
Munoz won the dice roll, and started with Maliss <P> Dormouse, Maliss in Underground, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and two copies of Fiendsmith’s Tract. He started with Tract to get Fabled Lurrie and discard it. Lurrie hit the field, and he Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Requiem brought Lacrima the Crimson Tears to the field, and Lacrima sent Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. He returned Lurrie to the Deck to Special Summon Engraver, then equipped Requiem to Lacrima. He used Lacrima and Requiem to play Necroquip Princess. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Sequence, and Winkler hit it with Infinite Impermanence.
Munoz Normal Summoned Dormouse, which banished Maliss <P> White Rabbit. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon White Rabbit, which put Maliss <C> TB-11 on the field. He used Sequence and White Rabbit to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom, which put Maliss in Underground in his hand. He then used Red Ransom and Dormouse to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, which banished his own Red Ransom. He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Red Ransom and banish Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck. He Special Summoned Chessy Cat, and used its effect to banish Underground, drawing Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and White Rabbit. He used Chessy Cat and Little Knight to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder, and its effect Set Maliss <C> GWC-06. He banished White Binder to activate TB-11, Special Summoning another White Rabbit. He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon White Binder and draw Nibiru, the Primal Being. He used all his monsters to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, then banished it to activate GWC-06. His trap revived White Binder and let him gain 2300 Life Points. He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Hearts Crypter, and White Binder banished White Rabbit, TB-11, and Dormouse from his Graveyard.
He Special Summoned the banished Dormouse. He used Hearts Crypter and Dormouse to Special Summon Knightmare Gryphon, which let him discard Fuwalos and Set GWC-06, drawing Metaltronus since Gryphon was co-linked. He used Gryphon and White Binder for A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow. That let him discard Underground and revive Little Knight. He Set Metaltronus, and A Bao A Qu returned to the field. He had 6700 Life Points at the turn’s end.
Winkler looked at his hand, considered Munoz’s field, and conceded! He knew he wasn’t going to make it through everything, and chose to save the time without revealing his Deck. That should give him an edge while the Duelists moved to their Side Decks.
Duel 2
Munoz had Gold Sarcophagus, Dormouse, Engraver, Bystial Druiswurm, and Fiendsmith’s Tract. Winkler played Bonfire to add Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned it by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, and Ext put Sword Ryzeal in his hand. He Special Summoned Sword to find Ice Ryzeal. He stacked Ext and Sword for Ryzeal Duo Drive, using its effect to add Ryzeal Cross and Ryzeal Plugin to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice, which brought another Sword to the field. He activated Cross, and Munoz considered using his Druiswurm before Cross was live, but made no play. Winkler Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator, but chose not to use its effect to attach a material. He used Detonator and Duo Drive to Xyz Summon Eclipse Twins, then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal. Node let him send Twins to the Graveyard and revive Sword. Eclipse Twins activated, targeting the first Eclipse Twins and Detonator. Munoz and his team mate deliberated a bit, and Munoz activated Druiswurm to banish the targeted Twins. Since one of the targets was banished, Eclipse Twins couldn’t resolve and Detonator stayed in the Graveyard. Winkler stacked Node and Sword for a new Detonator in Defense Position, which attached the last copy of Twins as a material. He used Cross to recycle Sword and Ext, drawing a card. He played Pot of Desires, banishing ten cards to draw another two cards. He Set two back row cards to finish.
In the middle of that turn, Munoz’s team mate Manuel Bermudez won his Match.
Munoz drew Fabled Lurrie, and Winkler activated Artifact Lancea! Munoz played Tract, adding Engraver to his hand and discarding Lurrie. He Special Summoned Lurrie, then Link Summoned Requiem. He activated Requiem, and it was negated by Ryzeal Cross. Munoz activated Engraver’s effect, discarding it to add another Tract to the hand. He then returned Lurrie to the Deck to Special Summon Engraver from the Graveyard, and Winkler Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Druiswurm. Munoz conceded! Even if he’d used Druiswurm’s effect on Detonator, the attached Eclipse Twins would just bring it back with another material.
Duel 3
Munoz played first in the final Duel with a hand of Maliss in Underground, Lacrima, GWC-06, and two copies of Solemn Strike. He Normal Summoned Lacrima, sending Engraver to the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Requiem, then used its effect to Special Summon another Engraver from the Deck. He equipped Requiem to Engraver, then used both cards to play Necroquip Princess. He Special Summoned Engraver, returning the second Engraver to the Deck. He Link Summoned Sequence, and Winkler had Infinite Impermanence just like the first Duel! Munoz played Underground, banishing Dormouse, and he Special Summoned it. Dormouse banished White Rabbit, and he Special Summoned that as well. White Rabbit put TB-11 on the field. He used Dormouse and Sequence to Link Summon Red Ransom, which put a new copy of Maliss in Underground in his hand.
He used Red Ransom and White Rabbit to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, which banished his Red Ransom. He Special Summoned Red Ransom, which then banished Chessy Cat from the Deck. He Special Summoned Chessy Cat, and used its effect to banish Underground, drawing Bystial Baldrake and Bystial Druiswurm. He used Chessy Cat and Little Knight to Link Summon White Binder, and used its effect to Set Maliss <C> MTP-07. He banished White Binder to activate TB-11, which Special Summoned White Rabbit. He then Special Summoned White Binder and drew another Druiswurm. He used White Rabbit to Link Summon Link Decoder, then used his whole field to Link Summon Hearts Crypter. Link Decoder returned to the field.
He activated GWC-06 by banishing Hearts Crypter, which let him Special Summon White Binder and gain 2300 Life Points. Hearts Crypter returned to the field, and White Binder banished White Rabbit, Dormouse, and TB-11 from the Graveyard. He used Hearts Crypter and Link Decoder to Link Summon a co-linked Knightmare Gryphon, discarding a Druiswurm to Set GWC-06, while also drawing his third Solemn Strike. He used Gryphon and White Binder to Link Summon A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow. He Set all three copies of Solemn Strike. A Bao let him discard a Druiswurm and Special Summon Little Knight, and A Bao A Qu returned in the End Phase.
Winkler started with Harpie’s Feather Duster! Munoz Chained GWC-06 to revive White Binder and gain another 2300 Life Points, going to 9000 Life Points, but lost all his traps! White Binder then banished Hearts Crypter from the Graveyard, and he paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon it. Winkler played Pot of Desires for two fresh cards, followed by Ultimate Slayer! He sent Tri-Brigade Arms Bucephalus II to the Graveyard to return A Bao A Qu to the Extra Deck. Bucephalus then sent Garura, Wings of Resonant Life to the Graveyard, letting Winkler draw another card. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Ext was Chain Link 1, and Aggregator targeted Hearts Crypter as Chain Link 2. Munoz Chained Hearts Crypter’s effect, returning White Rabbit to his Deck to banish Ext. Ext’s effect still put Sword in Winkler’s hand. Munoz used Lacrima to revive Requiem, and had Requiem Special Summon Lacrima from the Deck. Lacrima sent Fiendsmith in Paradise to the Graveyard. At this moment, Josh Bovarnick won his Match, evening the score! Everything was now down to this final Duel.
Winkler continued the turn, and Normal Summoned Ice. Munoz responded to its effect with Little Knight, banishing itself and Ice. Ice’s effect brought another Ext to the field. Winkler Special Summoned Sword, putting another Ice in his hand. Munoz now Special Summoned Baldrake, banishing Mereologic Aggregator from Winkler’s Graveyard. Winkler sent Desires to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice. He stacked Ice and Sword for Evilswarm Exciton Knight in Defense Position. Munoz Tributed Lacrima to activate Baldrake, and Winkler Chained Exciton’s effect to destroy everything! Winkler Set one card in the back row. In the End Phase, Little Knight and Ice returned to the field. Munoz banished his own White Binder to Special Summon Druiswurm. He Special Summoned White Binder and drew Dormouse.
Munoz drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for the turn, with about a minute left on the clock. He Normal Summoned Dormouse and banished Chessy Cat from his Deck. He used Druiswurm, Dormouse, and Little Knight to Link Summon Accesscode Talker! Accesscode shot up to 5300 ATK, and it destroyed the Set Book of Moon by banishing Hearts Crypter from the Graveyard. Hearts Crypter returned to the field with its ATK doubled! Munoz moved to the Battle Phase, with well over 12,000 ATK on the field, and it was all over!
