Round 1 Feature Match: Maxx “Steve” vs. We R Playing Water
Welcome to Round 1 of TEAM YCS Las Vegas! We’ve got all the Live Stream coverage team’s Stevens today, with Los Angeles Duelist Steven Kangas in the hot seat. He’s playing Primite Blue-Eyes, while his teammates are playing Ryzeal and Maliss. They’re facing We R Playing Water, who are all playing Atlantean Mermail Decks – no subterfuge here. Featured here is Mark Myatt, from San Antonio, Texas. He’s been away from Dueling for about five years but is making his grand return here in Las Vegas!
Duel 1
Kangas won the dice roll and played first, with a hand of Droll & Lock Bird, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Wishes for Eyes of Blue, Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, and Blue-Eyes White Dragon. He played Wishes, discarding Blue-Eyes White Dragon to add Sage with Eyes of Blue and Majesty of the White Dragons to his hand. He Normal Summoned Sage to put Maiden of White to his hand. He used Maiden’s effect to put True Light on the field. Then he used Sage to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, which put Mausoleum of White in his hand. He activated it, then played Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons to Special Summon Blue-Eyes from his Deck. He Link Summoned Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. He used True Light to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, then revived Maiden as well. He used them to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, and Set Majesty.
As the turn finished, We R Playing Water’s Avery Foster won the first Duel against Steven Rodriguez’s Maliss Deck.
Myatt began by activating Mermail Abyssteus, discarding Deep Sea Minstrel. Abyssteus hit the field, and it added Mermail Shadow Squad to his hand. Kangas activated Droll & Lock Bird. Myatt then activated Poseidra, the Storming Atlantean, discarding Shadow Squad. Poseidra sent Atlantean Heavy Infantry to the Graveyard to target Majesty, and Shadow Squad also activated. Kangas Chained the targeted Majesty to destroy Myatt’s monsters, and then Shadow Squad brought Mermail Abysspike to the field. Heavy Infantry tried to destroy True Light, and was negated by Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon. Then Kangas used Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon’s other effect, Tributing it to bring forth Blue-Eyes Ultimate Spirit Dragon! Myatt Tributed Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince to activate Abyssrhine, the Atlantean Spirit. Kangas used Ash Blossom to negate Abyssrhine, and Myatt conceded! With Droll & Lock Bird’s effect still active, he just couldn’t get anything going.
Duel 2
Myatt began this time with just a Set card in his back row.
Kangas had a hand of Triple Tactics Talent, Maiden of White, Droll & Lock Bird, and two copies of Primite Lordly Lode. He drew Sage. He played Lordly Lode, and Myatt negated its effect with Ash Blossom. Kangas Normal Summoned Sage and added Effect Veiler to his hand. He used Maiden to put True Light on the field. He Link Summoned Spirit with Eyes of Blue, and it put Mausoleum in his hand. He used Mausoleum to send a Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard. Spirit brought Blue-Eyes to the field, and Maiden came to the field along with it. Myatt flipped Dimensional Barrier to block Synchro Summons! Kangas used True Light’s effect to Set Wishes for Eyes of Blue. Then he used Triple Tactics Talent to look at Myatt’s hand, and Myatt conceded! He’d drawn a hand with no gas, and knew he had no chance after Kangas would take his best card.
But wait, there’s more!
Just as this Match finished, Foster won his second Duel against Rodriguez. Each team had a Match win, but Marc St. Romain’s Atlantean Mermails and Steven Darling’s Ryzeal were still battling it out in their first Duel! Eventually, St. Romain was able to eke out a win.
After the Side Decks, Darling evened the score in just a single turn with an incredible Ryzeal hand!
It all came down to a final Duel. St. Romain started first, but Darling had a Mulcharmy Fuwalos to keep him in check. St. Romain’s Deep Sea Minstrel let him get in under Darling’s other cards by temporarily banishing an Ash Blossom, and Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord took out even more cards, but all were quickly replaced by Fuwalos. Marc got Barrier Statue of the Torrents into play, but Darling was able to draw a second Fuwalos. St. Romain finished his turn with Barrier Statue and Mermail Abyssgaios on the field. Darling wound up with ten cards in hand, and put two back.
Darling had Book of Moon and Infinite Impermanence to disable both of Marc’s monsters! His Ryzeals let him combo into Ryzeal Duo Drive, Ryzeal Detonator, and Abyss Dweller. The first Duel had gone so long that the Round timer was running out, and Darling’s monsters powered over St. Romain’s. Maxx “Steve” emerged victorious!
