Round 1 Feature Match: Steven Trifunoski vs. Mitchell Cone

March 15th, 2025

The first Swiss Round of TEAM YCS Las Vegas is about to begin! Team Alpha Bows is up against Team Pak to Pak in our Round 1 Feature Match! Cristian Urena from Team Pak to Pak just won a trophy two weeks ago at TEAM YCS San Salvador, and now he’s here with two new teammates looking for another first place finish. We have Jonathan Kruse, Samuel Johanson Jr., and Mitchell Cone on Team Alpha Bows, going up against Walter Jule, Cristian Urena, and Steven Trifunoski on team Pak to Pak. We’ll be focusing in on the Match between Steven Trifunoski and Mitchell Cone for this Feature Match, but any team that takes two Match victories will secure the Round victory. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Trifunoski opened up Duel 1 with Maliss <P> Dormouse, Maliss <C> MTP-07, Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Lacrima the Crimson Tears.

He Normal Summoned Lacrima and used its effect to send a Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he sent Lacrima to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem and Tributed it to Special Summon Engraver from his Deck. He equipped Engraver with Requiem and then Special Summoned Necroquip Princess. Next, he Special Summoned Engraver from his Graveyard by returning another Engraver from his Graveyard to his Deck and Link Summoned I:P Masquerena. He Set MTP-07 and then passed his turn.

Cone drew a card and then Trifunoski used his Lacrima’s effect to Special Summon Requiem from the Graveyard to his field. Cone Special Summoned Speedroid Terrortop from his hand and used its effect to add Speedroid Taketomborg to his hand. Trifunoski Tributed his Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck and used its effect to send Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used the effect of I:P Masquerena and sent it to the Graveyard along with Lacrima to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. He used Little Knight’s effect to banish Terrortop. Next, Cone discarded Crystron Smiger to Special Summon Crystron Sulfefnir and destroy it. He Special Summoned Crystron Sulfador with its effect. He activated Sulfador’s effect, and Trifunoski Chained Little Knight’s effect to try to banish it. Trifunoski Chained Effect Veiler’s effect to try to negate the effect of Sulfador next, but Cone Chained Forbidden Droplet and sent Sulfador to the Graveyard to negate Little Knight’s effect! Cone sent Crystron Cluster and Crystron Thystvern from his Deck to his Graveyard with the Sulfador’s effect. Next, Cone banished Smiger from his Graveyard to activate its effect, and Trifunoski Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring’s effect to negate it. Cone banished Thystvern from his Graveyard to activate its effect and add Crystron Citree from his Deck to his hand. Cone Normal Summoned the Citree and Set a card to his back row before passing.

Trifunoski drew Maliss in Underground and then Normal Summoned Dormouse. He activated Dormouse’s effect, and when Cone Chained Infinite Impermanence to negate it, Trifunoski Chained Maliss <C> MTP-07 in the same column as the Infinite Impermanence to add Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Engraver from his Graveyard by returning Lacrima from his Graveyard to his Deck and then equipped his Engraver with the Requiem in his Graveyard. He used the Engraver’s effect to try to destroy Citree, and when Cone Chained Citree’s effect, Trifunoski Chained Little Knight’s effect to banish the Engraver and Citree until the End Phase! Trifunoski activated Maliss in Underground and Cone Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Trifunoski banished Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck and Special Summoned it with its effect. He used Chessy Cat’s effect to banish White Rabbit from his hand and draw 2 cards, then used White Rabbit’s effect to Special Summon it. He used White Rabbit’s on-field effect to Set Maliss <C> GWC-06 from his Deck. He Link Summoned Maliss <Q> White Binder next and used its effect to banish 3 cards from the Graveyards, including his own Dormouse. Cone Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy White Binder and then Trifunoski Special Summoned his banished Dormouse after his White Binder was destroyed. Next, Trifunoski attacked directly with his 3 monsters, dropping Cone down to 4400 Life Points. In the End Phase, Engraver and Citree returned to the field due to Little Knight’s effect.

Cone Normal Summoned Speedroid Taketomborg and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Citree to Synchro Summon Hi-Speedroid Chanbara.

Chanbara attacked and destroyed Dormouse, then attacked and destroyed White Rabbit, dropping Trifunoski down to 4600 Life Points. In the End Phase, Trifunoski flipped GWC-06 and Special Summoned White Binder from his Graveyard. He used its effect to banish more cards from Cone’s Graveyard, and Cone conceded.

Steven Trifunoski wins the first Duel with his Fiendsmith Maliss Deck! The Duelists would be shuffling up for a second Duel, but Steven Trifunoski’s teammates had already taken 2-0 victories in their Matches! Since Team Pak to Pak had secured 2 of the 3 Match victories, Team Pak to Pak is moving on with a 1-0 record, without the need for Steven Trifunoski and Mitchell Cone to finish their Match.
