Round 10 Feature Match: Blair Hunter vs. Daniel Cardno
It’s the final round of Swiss, and we’ll be moving on to the Top 16 playoff after this round. Teams are hoping to be able to make it in, but it’s going to come right down to the wire. For this Feature Match, we have two teams that currently have a 7-2 record. We’ll have Daniel Cardno of Team ADCG Dueling against Blair Hunter of Team Steak and Shake Special Combo. There’s a ton on the line with this match, with the winner having the potential to make it into the Top 16. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Hunter won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand contained Infinite Impermanence, Bonfire, Fiendsmith’s Tract, and two copies of Nibiru the Primal Being. During the Standby Phase, Cardno activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Hunter started by activating Tract, adding to his hand and discarding Fabled Lurrie, then Special Summoned Lurrie. Next, he activated Bonfire, adding Ice Ryzeal to hand. He used Lurrie to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal from Deck and searching for Ext Ryzeal. Finally, he used Ice and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. He Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Cardno began his turn by activating Metaltronus, Special Summoning his own Ryzeal Detonator and negating Hunter’s Detonator’s effect! Next, he activated Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck, then used Dormouse’s effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit. He Summoned White Rabbit, but when he attempted to activate its effect, Hunter responded with his face-down Infinite Impermanence! Next, Cardno used Dormouse to Link Summon Link Decoder, then used Detonator, White Rabbit, and Decoder to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder! He Special Summoned back the Link Decoder, and used White Binder’s effect to banish Dormouse, Lurrie, and Tract from their respective Graveyards. Cardno used White Binder’s effect to Set Maliss <C> GWC-06 from the Deck, as Hunter activated the effect of Fiendsmith’s Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send Fiendsmith in Paradise to the Graveyard. Hunter attempted to activate Nibiru the Primal Being, but Cardno responded with Dominus Impulse!
Next, Cardno used White Binder and Link Decoder to Special Summon Accesscode Talker, then banished White Binder to destroy Hunter’s Detonator. He Special Summoned back White Binder and drew a card. Here, Hunter activated the effect of Fiendsmith in Paradise in his Graveyard, but Cardno responded with Bystial Druiswurm from his hand, banishing Hunter’s Requiem! With Cardno about to make a lethal push for a ton of damage, Hunter conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Hunter chose to go first again, opening with Artifact Lancea, Bonfire, Crossout Designator, Sword Ryzeal, and Mulcharmy Fuwalos.
During the Standby Phase, Cardno once again activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Hunter began by activating Bonfire, searching for Ext Ryzeal, then Special Summoned Ext by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard and searched for Node Ryzeal. He then Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal and searched for Ice Ryzeal. On resolution, Cardno activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, banishing Hunter’s Aggregator. Hunter then used Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. He Set a card to his backrow, then ended his turn. During the End Phase, Cardno added Bystial Druiswurm to his hand.
At the start of Cardno’s turn, Hunter activated the effect of Artifact Lancea! However, Cardno responded by activating Bystial Druiswurm as Chain Link 2, banishing Hunter’s Lancea, and Metaltronus as Chain Link 3, targeting Hunter’s Detonator; Hunter responded with Crossout Designator as Chain Link 4, calling Infinite Impermanence! Both Detonators remained face-up on the field, and Cardno used Druiswurm and Detonator to Link Summon I:P Masquerena, and activated Druiswurm’s effect to send Hunter’s Detonator to the Graveyard. Cardno Normal Summoned Maliss <P> Chessy Cat and attacked Hunter directly with his three monsters! With no cards remaining on the field, Hunter activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos from his hand. Cardno chose to end his turn without Special Summoning any more monsters from the Extra Deck!
Hunter drew Fiendsmith Engraver for turn! He started by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal from the Deck and searching for Ext Ryzeal. Next, he used Sword and Ice to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight, entered the Battle Phase, and attacked Cardno’s I:P Masquerena. In Main Phase 2, Hunter used Exciton’s effect to destroy Magnamhut and Chessy Cat, then used Exciton to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He activated Requiem’s effect to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. Hunter equipped Requiem to Lacrima, then Special Summoned Engraver from the Graveyard by returning Exciton to the Extra Deck. Next, he used Lacrima to Special Summon Necroquip Princess, then discarded Engraver to add Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand, allowing him to draw a card with the effect of Necroquip Princess! He then used Necroquip and Engraver to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar.
Hunter Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, then activated Fiendsmith’s Tract, adding, discarding, and Special Summoning Fabled Lurrie. He then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal, and sent Lurrie to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice Ryzeal from the Graveyard. He used Ice and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, then used Duo Drive’s effect to add Ryzeal Cross and another Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He activated Cross, then returned Ext and Sword from his Graveyard back to the Deck and drew another card. He Special Summoned Ice by sending Duo Drive to the Graveyard, then used Ice and Node to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Eclipse Twins. Finally, Hunter Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Cardno started by activating Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck. When he attempted to Special Summon it, Hunter negated its effect on resolution with Ryzeal Cross. Next, Cardno Normal Summoned Maliss <P> Dormouse, banishing Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. Hunter used Detonator to destroy Dormouse, and Caesar to negate the effect of White Rabbit! Cardno activated Triple Tactics Thrust, adding Triple Tactics Talent to his hand, and attempted to activate it to draw 2 cards. However, Hunter Chained Crossout Designator, calling Triple Tactics Talent! Without any more ways to try and push through Hunter’s board, Cardno conceded and we’re on to game 3!
At this point, Hunter and Cardno’s teammates had finished their Duels. The game 3 between Hunter and Cardno will be the one determining this round’s result!
Duel 3
Cardno chose to go first in game three! During the Draw Phase, Hunter attempted to activate the effect of Artifact Lancea. However, Cardno responded by activating Dimension Shifter as Chain Link 2 and Called by the Grave as Chain Link 3! All cards sent to the Graveyard will now be banished until the end of the next turn.
Cardno began by Normal Summoning Maliss <P> Dormouse, banishing Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. He Special Summoned White Rabbit and Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck, then used White Rabbit and Dormouse to Link Summon Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy! Dormouse was banished because of Dimension Shifter, so Cardno Special Summoned it back and used Dharc and Dormouse to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder and Set Maliss <C> GWC-06. Next, Cardno activated Maliss <C> TB-11, banishing White Binder from his Deck and Special Summoning Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from the Deck. Cardno then used Chessy Cat to Link Summon Link Decoder, then Special Summoned back Chessy Cat. Here, Hunter activated the effect of Nibiru the Primal Being! Cardno followed up by activating Triple Tactics Talent, revealing Hunter’s Fiendsmith’s Tract and two copies of Bonfire, and chose to return one of Hunter’s Bonfires back to the Deck. He Set another card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Hunter drew Ext Ryzeal for turn! He started by activating Bonfire, adding Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, activated its effect to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal from the Deck, and add another Ice Ryzeal from Deck to hand. Hunter entered the Battle Phase, used Sword Ryzeal to destroy the Primal Being Token, then attacked directly with Nibiru the Primal Being. Afterward, Cardno activated the effect of Bystial Druiswurm, banishing Dimension Shifter and preventing Ice Ryzeal from attacking directly. In Main Phase 2, Hunter used Ice and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, and activated its effect to search for Node Ryzeal and Sword Ryzeal. He Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal and Node Ryzeal, and decided to leave the monsters on the field without going into his Extra Deck; Hunter and his team wanted to preserve his Life Points, and also feared that one of the opponent’s face-down cards was Metaltronus! During the End Phase, Cardno activated Maliss <C> GWC-06, Special Summoning Maliss <Q> White Binder.
Cardno started his turn by Normal Summoning Maliss <P> Dormouse, banishing Maliss <P> White Rabbit from the Deck and Setting Maliss <C> MTP-07. He used Dormouse, White Rabbit, and Druiswurm to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, and activated Druiswurm’s effect to send Duo Drive to the Graveyard. He activated Crypter’s effect to shuffle Chessy Cat back to the Deck and banish Hunter’s Node Ryzeal and proceeded to the Battle Phase. Cardno used Binder to attack Sword and Crypter to attack Nibiru. Finally, Cardno activated Maliss <C> MTP-07, banishing Crypter to search for Maliss <P> White Rabbit and banish the White Binder on the field. He activated the effects of Crypter and White Binder, Special Summoning them both back to the field, and attacked Hunter directly to win the Duel!
With that, Team ADCG improve to a final record of 8-2, and hope to make it into the Top 16 here at TEAM YCS Las Vegas!
