Round 2 Feature Match: Thomas Cheung vs. Vince Hernandez

March 15th, 2025

TEAM YCS Las Vegas is underway! In our Round 2 Feature Match, we have two teams that won their first rounds and are looking to remain undefeated. On one side, we have Team No Insider Trading, consisting of Cynthia Yuan, Gavin Jiang, and Thomas Cheung. On the other side of the table, we have Team That’s My Teammate!, consisting of Hamzeh Salti, Billy Gadier, and Vince Hernandez, a group of friends that traveled to the event together from Seattle, Washington. We’ll be featuring Cheung, piloting the pure Ryzeal deck, and Hernandez and his White Forest Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Cheung won the die roll and chose to go first!

Cheung started by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, activating its effect, and Hernandez responded by activating the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Cheung Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from the Deck and added another Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He used Sword and Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. However, when Chueng activated its effect, Hernandez responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, Cheung Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, adding Node Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Node, then used Node and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Eclipse Twins, and ended his turn.

Hernandez started by activating the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver, adding Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. He then activated Tract, adding Fabled Lurrie to his hand and discarding it, then Special Summoned Lurrie and used it to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He activated Requiem’s effect, Tributing it to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send another Engraver to the Graveyard, as Cheung responded with Detonator’s effect to destroy the Lacrima. Hernandez Special Summoned Engraver from the Graveyard by returning Lurrie to the Deck, but when he attempted to activate Requiem’s effect to try and equip it to the Engraver, Cheung responded with Bystial Druiswurm, banishing the Requiem.

Next, Hernandez Normal Summoned Astellar. He activated its effect, sending Fiendsmith in Paradise from his hand to the Graveyard, and Cheung responded with Detonator’s effect, attempting to destroy the Astellar. Hernandez Chained Sinful Spoils of the White Forest, and Cheung followed up with Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Astellar! Hernandez resolved Sinful Spoils by Special Summoning another Engraver from his hand, and the effect of his Astellar was negated. He used the two copies of Engraver to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence, but when he attempted to activate its effect, Cheung responded with Effect Veiler! Finally, Hernandez used Sequence to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! He activated TY-PHON’s effect to return Cheung’s Detonator to the Extra Deck, then used TY-PHON to attack Duo Drive and both monsters were destroyed by battle. He Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.

Cheung started by Normal Summoning another Ice Ryzeal, but Hernandez responded with Called by the Grave, banishing Ice Ryzeal from Cheung’s Graveyard and negating the effect of all copies of Ice. Next, Cheung used Ice and Druiswurm to Synchro Summon Chaos Angel, banishing Hernandez’s face-down Azamina Aphes. Cheung Set a card to his backrow. Before Cheung’s turn was over, Hernandez activated Lacrima’s effect, returning Lacrima to the Deck and Special Summoning Sequence back from the Graveyard.

Hernandez drew Rucia of the White Forest for turn. He activated the effect of Engraver in his Graveyard, returning another copy of Engraver to the Deck. He activated Sequence’s effect, equipping it to Engraver, then Normal Summoned Rucia and activated its effect by sending Sequence to the Graveyard, but Cheung responded with Metaltronus, Special Summoning Effect Veiler from the Deck and negating Rucia’s effect! He used Rucia and Engraver to Synchro Summon his own Chaos Angel, attacked over Cheung’s Veiler, and ended his turn.

On Cheung’s turn, he chose to proceed straight to the Battle Phase. Since his Chaos Angel was Synchro Summoned using a Dark monster as material, it could not be destroyed by battle, but Hernandez’s was made with only Light monsters. Cheung was therefore able to use his Chaos Angel to attack and destroy Hernandez’s! He Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.

Hernandez activated Engraver’s effect, returning Sequence to the Extra Deck, then activated WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, adding Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand. He sent Engraver to the Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar, using its effect to Set Deception of the Sinful Spoils from his Deck. He activated Deception, Tributing Diabellstar to add The Hallowed Azamina to his hand. He activated Hallowed, sending Deception to the Graveyard to Special Summon Azamina Mu Rcielago, and activated its effect to search for Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest. He banished WANTED from his Graveyard, returning Sinful Spoils of the White Forest to the bottom of his Deck to draw a card. He activated Tales of the White Forest, adding Silvy of the White Forest. He then Normal Summoned Silvy, but Cheung activated another Metaltronus, Summoning another Veiler from the Deck and negating Silvy’s effect!

Hernandez activated Elzette’s effect in hand, Special Summoning it, then used Elzette and Silvy to Synchro Summon Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest and turn Cheung’s Veiler face-down. Silvera attacked Effect Veiler inflicting piercing damage to Cheung’s Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Hernandez activated the effect of The Hallowed Azamina in the Graveyard, adding it back to hand and returning Elzette to the Deck. He then Set a card and ended his turn.

On Cheung’s turn, he proceeded straight to the Battle Phase once again and used Chaos Angel to attack Mu Rcielago, then ended his turn.

Hernandez drew Diabellstar the Black Witch for turn. He sent Silvera to the Graveyard to Summon Diabellstar and Set WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils to his backrow. He activated Rucia’s effect in the Graveyard, returning Silvera to the Extra Deck to Special Summon it, then activated Rucia’s effect to send WANTED to the Graveyard. Even though Rucia’s effect was negated, since a Spell Card was sent to the Graveyard, Hernandez activated Astellar’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. He banished WANTED from his Graveyard to return Deception to the bottom of his Deck and draw a card, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.

Cheung activated Seventh Tachyon, revealing Number 104: Masquerade to add Ice Ryzeal to his hand and return a card to the top of his Deck. He Normal Summoned Ice, attempting to activate its effect, but Hernandez responded with Infinite Impermanence! Cheung entered the Battle Phase, used Ice to attack Rucia and Chaos Angel to attack Astellar.

Hernandez drew a card for turn. However, he still was not able to deal with Cheung’s Chaos Angel, as it was made with both a Light and Dark monster as materials, and conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2

Hernandez chose to go first in the second Duel! His opening hand consisted of Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest, WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, Deception of the Sinful Spoils, and two copies of Elzette of the White Forest

During the Draw Phase, Cheung activated Mulcharmy Purulia! Hernandez activated Deception of the Sinful Spoils, Tributing Elzette of the White Forest from the hand to add The Hallowed Azamina to his hand. He activated Hallowed Azamina, and Chueng responded with Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Hernandez Special Summoned Azamina Mu Rcielago and searched for Azamina Aphes. He then activated the effect of Elzette of the White Forest in his hand, sending Aphes to the Graveyard and Special Summoning Elzette, searching for Silvy of the White Forest. He Set Aphes from the Graveyard to his backrow, then Normal Summoned Silvy and searched for Sinful Spoils of the White Forest. He used Silvy and Elzette to Synchro Summon Rciela, Sinister Soul of the White Forest, sending Sinful Spoils to the Graveyard to add Effect Veiler to his hand, then Set the Sinful Spoils of the White Forest to his backrow from the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest, then used Elzette and Rciela to Synchro Summon Diabell, Queen of the White Forest

Hernandez added WANTED and The Hallowed Azamina back to his hand. He activated Hallowed, and WANTED, adding Diabellstar the Black Witch to his hand and Special Summoned Azamina Ilia Silva. He banished WANTED and returned Deception to the bottom of his Deck and drew a card, then ended his turn. Even though he had given Cheung several draws with Purulia and Fuwalos, Hernandez felt confident that he was in a winning position, as he had several ways to disrupt Cheung’s plays, including a copy of Droll & Lock Bird

Cheung started his turn by activating Mulcharmy Fuwalos from his hand. He then activated Infinite Impermanence, negating the effect of Ilia Silva. Next, he activated Lightning Storm, choosing to destroy Hernandez’s backrow! Cheung Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, negating Mu Rcielago and adding Sword Ryzeal to his hand. On resolution, Hernandez responded with Droll & Lock Bird! Cheung Special Summoned Sword, then used Ext and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. Hernandez attempted to respond by activating the effect of Diabell, but Cheung responded with Metaltronus, Special Summoning Eclipse Twins from the Extra Deck to negate Diabell’s effect.

Next, Cheung Special Summoned Node Ryzeal, then Normal Summoned another Sword Ryzeal, and used Sword and Node to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller. He activated Dweller’s effect, then activated Bystial Druiswurm’s effect, banishing Hernandez’s Silvy to Special Summon it out. He followed it up with Bystial Magnamhut, banishing Hernandez’s Elzette, Azamina of the White Forest, and proceeded to the Battle Phase. He used Eclipse Twins to attack Mu Rcielago, Detonator to attack Diabell, and Magnamhut to attack Ilia Silva, then attacked directly with Dweller and Druiswurm! Cheung then ended his turn.

Hernandez drew Silvy of the White Forest for turn and Normal Summoned it. However, Cheung activated the effect of Abyss Dweller! Hernandez chose to concede, as he was unable to activate effects in his Graveyard and was still staring down a Ryzeal Detonator that could pop several cards.

Fortunately for Cheung, one of his teammates also won their match. Team No Insider Trading was able to secure the win and improve to a 2-0 record!
