Round 3 Feature Match: Jesse Kotton vs. Emmanuel Rivera
Round 3 of TEAM YCS Las Vegas is about to begin! Team Legionnaire is facing off against Team Nerdzkingdom Trading Cards & Collectibles. Both of these teams are currently 2-0 in the tournament. Team Legionnaire has one Duelist – Dominic Couch – who has won two TEAM YCS Las Vegas events. Now, he’s hoping to take a third TEAM YCS Las Vegas victory with his new teammates. This year, Couch teamed up with Jesse Kotton and Michael Albanese. Team Nerdzkingdom Trading Cards & Collectible consists of Emmanuel Rivera, Daniel Ramirez, and Tien Nguyen. In this Feature Match, we’ll focus on the Match between Jesse Kotton and Emmanuel Rivera. Kotton is using a Fiendsmith Ryzeal Deck, while Rivera is using a Sky Striker Tenpai Dragon Deck. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Rivera won the die roll and chose to go second.
Kotton opened up with Fiendsmith’s Tract, Ext Ryzeal, Ice Ryzeal, Sword Ryzeal, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.
He Normal Summoned Ice and used its effect to Special Summon Ext from his Deck. He used Ext’s effect to add Node Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and then used Ice and Ext to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem and then Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears. He used Lacrima’s effect to send a Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard and then equipped Lacrima with Requiem. He Special Summoned Engraver back from his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Necroquip Princess by sending Requiem and Lacrima to the Graveyard. He combined Princess with Engraver to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar and then Special Summoned Sword from his hand. He used its effect to add Ext to his hand. Kotton took a moment to discuss with Couch his best line of play against Tenpai Dragon, suspecting that Rivera was on the Tenpai Dragon strategy since he chose to go second. Afterwards, he Special Summoned Ext from his hand by sending Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Duo Drive and used its effect to attach another Xyz Material to it. He then used its other effect and detached 2 Xyz Materials from it to add Ryzeal Cross and Ryzeal Sword from his Deck to his hand. He activated Cross and then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from his hand. He used Node’s effect by sending Sword from his hand to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Sword. He Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator next, and used its effect to attach Mereologic Aggregator to it as an Xyz Material. Next, he used Cross’s effect and returned Sword and Ext from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Kotton Set Tract to his back row and then ended his turn.
Rivera activated Upstart Goblin, increasing Kotton’s Life Points by 1000 to draw a card. Next, he activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate Detonator’s effect. He Normal Summoned Tenpai Dragon Paidra next and activated its effect, but Kotton negated it on resolution with the effect of his Ryzeal Cross by detaching an Xyz Material from his Detonator. Rivera activated Called by the Grave to try to banish Lacrima from Kotton’s Graveyard, and after quickly consulting Couch about playing around a possible Triple Tactics Talent, Kotton allowed it to be banished. Rivera Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
Kotton drew Crossout Designator. He used Cross to return 2 cards from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw Fabled Lurrie and then used Duo Drive’s effect. He detached the last Xyz Material from Duo Drive and an Xyz Material from High King Caesar to add Ice Ryzeal and Node Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He flipped his face-down Fiendsmith’s Tract to get an Engraver from his Deck and discard it. Next, he Special Summoned it by sending another Engraver from his Graveyard to his Deck. He equipped Engraver with the Requiem in his Graveyard and then used Engraver’s effect to destroy the Paidra and the Requiem. Duo Drive attacked directly. High King Caesar attacked next, and Rivera activated his face-down Forbidden Droplet. He sent Triple Tactics Talent and Paidra from his hand to his Graveyard to halve the ATK of Detonator and Caesar – and even though he was able to survive the Battle Phase as a result of it, he immediately conceded, realizing that there was no card he could draw to save him.

Duel Two
Rivera chose to go second once again.
Kotton opened up Duel 2 with Ice Ryzeal, Sword Ryzeal, Infinite Impermanence, Called by the Grave, and Triple Tactics Talent. He Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal and activated its effect to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal from his Deck. He used Ext’s effect to add Node Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and then Link Summoned Moon of the Closed Heaven. He sent Moon to the Graveyard to Link Summon Requiem and then Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck. He used Lacrima’s effect to send Engraver to his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Necroquip Princess. Next, he tried to Special Summon Engraver back from his Graveyard, but lost out to Bystial Magnamhut banishing it. Rivera activated Magnamhut’s effect on the field, and then Kotton activated Triple Tactics Talent! Rivera revealed his hand of Forbidden Droplet, Sangen Summoning, Triple Tactics Thrust, and Sangen Kaimen. Kotton consulted Couch about which card he should return to Rivera’s Deck, and they ultimately decided on Forbidden Droplet. Next, Kotton Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from his hand and used its effect to add Ice Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and then used Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. He used Duo Drive’s effect to give it an Xyz Material, then used its other effect to detach 2 Xyz Materials and add Ryzeal Cross and Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. Kotton Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from his hand next and used its effect by sending Ice Ryzeal to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Ice and then drew a card off of Necroquip Princess’s effect. He combined Ice with Node to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and then used the Detonator’s effect to attach Aggregator to it as an Xyz Material. Kotton Set Infinite Impermanence and Called by the Grave to his back row before ending his turn. In the End Phase, Rivera finished resolving the effect of the Magnamhut he activated earlier in the turn and added Bystial Druiswurm from his Deck to his hand. He immediately tried to Special Summon it by targeting Lacrima in Kotton’s Graveyard, and Kotton used Detonator’s effect to destroy Magnamhut. On the resolution of Druiswurm’s effect, Kotton used his Cross and detached an Xyz Material from Duo Drive to negate it.
Rivera entered his Main Phase and then activated his Druiswurm’s effect once again by targeting Lacrima.
Kotton Chained Lacrima’s effect to return it to the Deck and Special Summon Requiem, leaving the Druiswurm in Rivera’s hand. Next, Kotton Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck and used Lacrima’s effect to send Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Deck to his Graveyard. Rivera activated Triple Tactics Thrust next, adding Ultimate Slayer from his Deck to his hand. Kotton activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird on the resolution of Thrust, and Rivera Chained Sangen Kaimen to add Tenpai Dragon Chundra from his Deck to his hand. Rivera used Ultimate Slayer. He sent Aggregator to the Graveyard to return Kotton’s Detonator to the Extra Deck and then negated Cross’s effect with the Aggregator. Rivera activated Sangen Summoning next, and then Normal Summoned Tenpai Dragon Paidra. He Special Summoned Tenpai Dragon Chundra from his hand next, and then Tuned Chundra with Paidra to Synchro Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion. He used its effect to try to Special Summon Chundra from his Graveyard, but Kotton banished the Chundra with Called by the Grave! Rivera attacked Duo Drive to destroy it and inflict 100 points of damage to Kotton’s Life Points.
Kotton drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos and then used Cross’s effect to return Node and Duo Drive from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw Sword Ryzeal. He Normal Summoned Fuwalos and then used Lacrima and Fuwalos to Xyz Summon Duo Drive. He used its effect to give it another Xyz Material and then activated its effect to add Node and Ext to his hand by giving up 2 Xyz Materials. He Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal and used its effect to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Exciton Knight from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and then Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator. He used its effect to attach Mereologic Aggregator from his Graveyard to it as an Xyz Material and then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from his hand. He used Node’s effect by sending Effect Veiler from his hand to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Ice Ryzeal. He drew Droll & Lock Bird off of Necroquip Princess’s effect and then attacked Bident Dragion with Detonator to destroy it. Kotton attacked directly with Ice, Node, and Duo Drive next. Necroquip Princess attacked next, and Rivera activated the effect of Druiswurm in his hand to try to Special Summon it. Kotton Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Sangen Summoning and, as the Druiswurm’s effect resolved, Kotton negated it by using Ryzeal Cross. Next, Rivera Special Summoned Sangenpai Bident Dragion to try to protect his Life Points, but Kotton used the effect of Fiendsmith in Paradise in his Graveyard to send Fiendsmith’s Desirae from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He used Desirae’s effect to send Bident Dragion to the Graveyard, and attacks from Kotton’s remaining monsters wiped out the rest of Rivera’s Life Points!
