Round 3 Feature Match: Shunping Xu vs. Anthony Rojas

March 15th, 2025

Welcome to Round 3 of TEAM YCS Las Vegas! Our VIP Duelists have entered the fray, and we’re here with Philadelphia Duelist Shunping Xu with team Winners in Paris, clearly stating their intentions for the World Championship in Paris this summer. They’re facing team Draw The Out, with Tuscon Duelist Anthony Rojas up against Xu in a Ryzeal mirror Match. Xu’s playing a pure build, while Rojas has a Fiendsmith engine.

Duel 1

Xu won the dice roll and began with a hand of Ultimate Slayer, Solemn Strike, Ice Ryzeal, Node Ryzeal, and Ryzeal Cross. He Normal Summoned Ice, which Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal. Sword let him add Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Duo Drive, and used its effect to find Ryzeal Plugin and another Ice. He played Cross, then Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard. Ext let him get another Sword in his hand. He Special Summoned Sword, then Xyz Summoned Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir. He then used Bagooska and Duo Drive to Xyz Summon Eclipse Twins. He Special Summoned Node, and used its effect to revive Sword by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard. Eclipse Twins brought Duo Drive back to the field with the first Twins attached, and Duo Drive’s own effect gave it another material. Rojas activated Nibiru, the Primal Being, and Xu negated it with Cross by detaching Eclipse Twins from Duo Drive. Then, he used Node and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Eclipse Twins. He used Cross to return two Ryzeals and draw a Bonfire. He Set Solemn Strike and Plugin.

Rojas Special Summoned Ext, sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Aggregator targeted Xu’s Detonator, and Xu Chained it, detaching Eclipse Twins to destroy Rojas’s Ext. When Aggregator resolved, Cross let Xu detach Eclipse Twins from Duo Drive to negate it. In a new Chain, Eclipse Twins brought back Bagooska in Defense Position with the second Eclipse Twins attached! Bagooska would shut down most of Rojas’s monsters. Rojas Normal Summoned another Ext, then Special Summoned Sword. Both monsters were forced into Defense Position and negated. He Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Exciton Knight, perhaps planning to go into Fiendsmith’s Requiem, but wouldn’t be able to Link Summon after he Special Summoned Ext. He conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2

Rojas played first, and Xu immediately used Mulcharmy Purulia. Rojas Set two back row cards and passed.

Xu had a hand of Ultimate Slayer, Bonfire, Ext, and Ice. He drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, and Ext put Sword in his hand. Rojas had Droll & Lock Bird to restrict Xu’s plays for the turn. Xu Special Summoned Sword, sending both of his monsters to attack directly. Then he Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator, and Rojas negated the summon with Solemn Judgment. Xu Normal Summoned Ice, and Rojas hit it with Infinite Impermanence. Xu Set Ultimate Slayer as a bluff.

Rojas played Fiendsmith’s Tract, and Xu pondered a moment before negating it with Ash Blossom. Rojas passed.

Xu drew a second Ash Blossom. He played Bonfire, and Rojas had his own Ash Blossom to negate it. Ice Ryzeal attacked directly.

Rojas Special Summoned Ext in Defense Position by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. He declined to use Aggregator’s effect, and Ext was negated by Ash Blossom.

Xu drew another Bonfire! He played it to get a second Ice, and Normal Summoned it. Its effect brought Sword to the field, which put Ext in his hand. He stacked them for Duo Drive, which attached a bonus material before adding Ryzeal Cross and Node Ryzeal to Xu’s hand. He played Cross, using it to recycle two Ryzeals from the Graveyard including his Detonator, and drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He then Special Summoned Ext, sending Exciton Knight to the Graveyard. He stacked Ice and Ext for Detonator, and it was all over a moment later!

Shunping Xu claimed the first Match for Winners in Paris, and at nearly the same time, his team mate Logan Shepard took the second. Winners in Paris are also winners in Las Vegas!
