Round 8 Feature Match: Allan Pinon vs. Kyusuh Oh
For our final Round of Day 1, we have Team This Is Sparta! up against Team Hug the Homies Goodnight! We’ll be covering Denver Duelist Allan Pinon, using Primite Blue-Eyes, up against Michigan Duelist Kyusuh Oh, playing Fiendsmith Ryzeal.
Duel 1
Oh began the Match by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, which Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal from the Deck. Ext put Sword Ryzeal in his hand. He Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Exciton Knight, then used that to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He used Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears, which sent Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. Requiem was equipped to Lacrima, and Engraver hit the field by returning Exciton to the Extra Deck. He used Lacrima and Requiem to play Necroquiup Princess, and then used both his monsters to Xyz Summon Wave King High Caesar. He Special Summoned Sword, which put an Ext in his hand. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. He stacked Ext and Sword for Ryzeal Duo Drive, attaching Ice to it. Duo Drive’s effect put Ryzeal Cross and Node Ryzeal in his hand. He played Cross, using it to recycle two Ryzeals and draw a card. He Special Summoned Node, sending a Mulcharmy Fuwalos to the Graveyard to revive Ice. He Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Mereologic Aggregator. He Set one card in his back row to finish the turn.
Pinon’s opening hand was Maiden of White, Majesty of the White Dragons, Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, Primite Lordly Lode, and Nibiru, the Primal Being. He drew Wishes for Eyes of Blue. He started with Lordly Lode, and Oh Chained Detonator to destroy it before it resolved. Pinon played Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons next, and it was negated by Caesar. He didn’t see a way to play through Detonator and Caesar, and conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Pinon played first this time, with two copies of Sage with Eyes of Blue, Wishes for Eyes of Blue, Primite Drillbeam, and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl.
He began with Wishes, sending a Sage to the Graveyard. Oh had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Pinon Normal Summoned Beryl, which put Lordly Lode on the field. Upon resolution, Oh activated Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Pinon flipped up Lordly Lode, adding another Beryl to his hand. He Link Summoned Spirit with Eyes of Blue, letting Oh draw with Fuwalos, and Oh negated the Spirit with Infinite Impermanence. Pinon used Lordly Lode’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Deck, and Oh drew another card. Pinon Link Summoned Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, giving Oh yet another card. He Set Drillbeam and passed. In the End Phase, Oh used Bystial Magnamhut to banish Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and its effect put Bystial Druiswurm in his hand.
Oh started the turn with Fiendsmith’s Tract, adding Engraver to his hand and discarding Fabled Lurrie. Lurrie hit the field, and he Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Requiem brought Lacrima to the field, which send an Engraver to the Graveyard. He shuffled Lurrie back into the Deck to Special Summon Engraver. He then used Requiem, equipping it to Engraver. He used both cards to play Necroquip Princess, then activated the Engraver in his hand to find another Fiendsmith’s Tract. That allowed Necroquip Princess to activate, and Oh drew a card. He used Necroquip and Lacrima to Synchro Summon Chaos Angel! Its effect targeted Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, and Pinon flipped Primite Drillbeam to negate and banish Chaos Angel. Oh moved to the Battle Phase, sending Magnamhut to attack Heavenly Spheres and force its effect – Pinon Tributed it to return his own Lordly Lode to his hand. Heavenly Spheres then Special Summoned a Magnamhut from Pinon’s Deck with 0/0 ATK and DEF, and he activated its effect. In Main Phase 2, Oh used Triple Tactics Thrust to add Bonfire to his hand. He activated it to find Ice Ryzeal, and Normal Summoned it to bring Sword Ryzeal to the field. Sword put a Ext Ryzeal in his hand. He used the Ryzeals to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, which added Ryzeal Cross and Ext to his hand. He played Cross, then Special Summoned Node. It sent Duo Drive to the Graveyard to revive Sword, and he stacked them for Ryzeal Detonator. Detonator attached Fuwalos as a material. Then he used Cross to recycle his Duo Drive and Sword and draw a new card. In the End Phase, Pinon’s Magnamhut effect let him put Heavenly Spheres back in his Extra Deck. Oh had too many cards, and discarded his spare Fiendsmith’s Tract.
Pinon drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He Normal Summoned Beryl and declined to use its effect, trying not to let Detonator activate. He then used Beryl to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! He tried using it to bounce away Detonator, but it was negated by Ryzeal Cross. TY-PHON’s effect still prevented Detonator from activating, so Pinon activated Lordly Lode and added another Beryl to his hand. TY-PHON attacked Oh’s Magnamhut.
Oh activated Ultimate Slayer, sending Mereologic Aggregator to return TY-PHON to the Extra Deck! He Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, and Ext put Sword in his hand. He Special Summoned Sword to then find an Ice. He Normal Summoned Ice, which Special Summoned Sword. He stacked Sword and Ext for Duo Drive, using its effect to get Ext and Ice. He Special Summoned Druiswurm by banishing the Sage in Pinon’s Graveyard. He sent his monsters to attack, wiping out Pinon’s Life Points!
This gave Team Hug the Homies Goodnight a Match win, but Andrew Puzanoff of Team This Is Sparta! took a win against Ty Ratcliff to even the score.
Jancarlos Cintron from This Is Sparta! was playing Mitsurugi Ryzeal, and was able to Tribute a King of the Feral Imps to activate Deck Devastation Virus against Stanley Huang, but Huang was still able to drop a Chaos Angel and hold the line. Cintron eventually found an Infinite Impermanence to negate Chaos Angel and remove it, securing the Match for This Is Sparta!
