Round 8 Feature Match: Austin Colling vs. Andrew Tran
We’re finally there! It’s the final round of Day 1 here at TEAM YCS Las Vegas, and only the Top 64 teams will be back for Day 2 tomorrow. In this feature match, we have two teams that have a record of 5-2; a win in this round means that they will almost certainly be back for Day 2 tomorrow! In this round’s feature match, we have Team BDA playing off against Team BOTB, represented by Andrew Tran and Austin Colling, respectively.
Duel 1
Colling won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand consisted of Fiendsmith Engraver, Node Ryzeal, Ext Ryzeal, Ryzeal Cross, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.
He started by activating the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver to search for Fiendsmith’s Tract, and on resolution, Tran activated Droll & Lock Bird! Next, Colling Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal. He activated Ryzeal Cross, then used Ext and Node to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, activating Detonator’s effect to attach it with Aggregator, then ended his turn.
Tran started by activating Crossout Designator, calling Ryzeal Cross! He then activated the effect of his own Fiendsmith Engraver, searching Fiendsmith’s Tract. He activated Tract, adding another Engraver to his hand and discarding Fabled Lurrie. He Special Summoned the Lurrie, then used it as material to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Next, Tran activated the effect of the Engraver in his Graveyard, returning Lurrie to the Deck, and Chained Requiem’s effect to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears as he Special Summoned Engraver. Tran used Engraver and Lacrima to Synchro Summon Chaos Angel and banish Colling’s Ryzeal Cross. He entered the Battle Phase and attacked Detonator with Chaos Angel, with Collin detaching a material from Detonator to prevent it from being destroyed, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.
Colling drew Bonfire for turn! He activated Fiendsmith’s Tract, and his opponent responded with another copy of Crossout Designator, calling Fiendsmith’s Tract. Next, Colling activated Bonfire, adding Ice Ryzeal to his hand. On resolution, Tran activated Lacrima’s effect in the Graveyard, Special Summoning Requiem, then used Requiem to summon back Lacrima and send Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Deck to the Graveyard. Colling then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoning Ext Ryzeal, as Tran Chained the Graveyard effect of Fiendsmith in Paradise. Colling searched Sword Ryzeal as Tran sent Fiendsmith’s Desirae to the Graveyard. In the following Chain, Tran activated Desirae’s effect to send Colling’s Detonator to the Graveyard, and Colling responded by using Detonator’s effect to destroy Lacrima.
Colling then used Ice and Ext to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight, used Exciton to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then used Requiem to Special Summon his own Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Engraver by returning the other Engraver to the Graveyard, then used Engraver and Lacrima to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. Next, he activated Sequence’s effect, returning Engraver, Lacrima, and Requiem to the Deck to Fusion Summon Fiendsmith Desirae! He then used Sequence and Desirae to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday, then activated Agnumday’s effect to Special Summon back Desirae, and equipped it with Sequence and Agnumday. Next, Colling Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal, searching for Ext Ryzeal, then Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard. He activated the effect of Eclipse Twins, Special Summoning back Detonator from the Graveyard and attaching Exciton to it. Then he entered the Battle Phase and used Desirae to attack over Chaos Angel, as well as attack directly with Sword, Ext, and Detonator. Finally, he ended his turn by using Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller!
During Tran’s Standby Phase, Colling activated the effect of Abyss Dweller! Tran Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, searching for Sword Ryzeal, as Colling Chained the effect of Detonator to destroy Ext. He then Special Summoned Sword, adding Ice Ryzeal to his hand.
Next, Tran activated Triple Tactics Talent, and Colling Chained the effect of Fiendsmith Desirae, negating the effect of Triple Tactics Talent. Tran then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoning Node Ryzeal from the Deck. He used Ice and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, but when he activated its effect, Colling responded with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit! Without any more follow up and with Colling’s board mostly intact, Tran conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Colling’s opening hand consisted of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Fiendsmith Engraver, Nibiru the Primal Being, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Infinite Impermanence.
Tran started the second Duel by activating the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver to search for Fiendsmith’s Tract, activated Tract to add and discard Fabled Lurrie, then Summoned Lurrie. In response to the summon, Colling activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Tran used Lurrie to Link Summon Requiem, allowing Cololing to draw a card. Here, however, Tran activated Droll & Lock Bird to prevent Colling from drawing any more cards! Tran activated Requiem’s effect, but Colling responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Tran then Special Summoned Engraver from the Graveyard by returning Lurrie to the Deck, equipped Engraver with Requiem, and sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess. Finally, Tran Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Colling drew Ice Ryzeal for turn. He started by Normal Summoning Ice Ryzeal, but when he activated its effect, Tran responded with Solemn Strike! Next, Colling activated Fiendsmith Engraver, adding Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. Tran activated the effect of Necroquip Princess to try and draw a card, but Colling responded with Infinite Impermanence! Colling followed up by activating Tract, searching for and Special Summoning Fabled Lurrie. He used Lurrie to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then activated Requiem’s effect to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send another Engraver to the Graveyard. Colling Special Summoned Engraver by returning Lurrie to the Deck, equipped Requiem to Lacrima, then used Engraver to send his Requiem and Tran’s Necroquip to the Graveyard. Then he used Lacrima and Engraver to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence, and used Sequence to return Requiem and two Engravers to the Deck to Fusion Summon Fiendsmith Desirae! Finally, he used Desirae and Sequence to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday, then Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal. With no way to protect his Life Points, Tran conceded.
Colling and Team BOTB win the final round of Day 1 and finish with a 6-2 record! They’ll be back for Day 2 tomorrow, hoping for a chance to make it into the Top 16 here at TEAM YCS Las Vegas!
