Round 9 Feature Match: Bobby Barone vs. Eric Garde
We’re in the first Swiss Round of Day 2 at TEAM YCS Las Vegas! Team Chundra Fan Club and Team VACAYSHON both finished Day 1 with 6-1-1 records, and now they’re facing off in this Round 9 Feature Match! All of the players on Team Chundra Fan Club – Bobby Barone, Mario De Micco, and Rico Eichelberger – are likely fans of Tenpai Dragon Chundra, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re using Tenpai Dragon strategies this weekend. Similarly, Team VACAYSHON, comprised of Eric Garde, Jason Bai, and Salvador Flores Peralta, may be on “vacation”, but their attitude toward Dueling this weekend may be anything but relaxed. In this Feature Match, we’ll be focusing in on the Match between Bobby Barone and Eric Garde. Bobby Barone is the “Bobby” from our Round 7 Feature Match with Team Bobby’s Bench. While his benched Duelists didn’t make it to Day 2, Bobby Barone and Team Chundra Fan Club still have a solid shot at making the Top 16 cut. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Barone opened up with Metaltronus, Effect Veiler, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Bonfire, and Infinite Impermanence.
He activated the Tract to add Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and discarded it. Then he used Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed the Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears and activated Lacrima’s effect; but Garde activated the effect of Effect Veiler to negate it. Next, Barone activated Bonfire to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal from his Deck. He used the effect of Ext to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and then used Requiem’s effect in the Graveyard to equip it to his Lacrima. He sent Requiem and Lacrima to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess and then used his Ext and Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. He activated Duo Drive’s effect to try to get two cards from his Deck, but lost out to Garde’s Infinite Impermanence. Next, Barone Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from his hand and used its effect to add Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext from his hand by sending Evilswarm Exciton Knight from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and then combined Ext with Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. He activated Detonator’s effect to attach an Exciton Knight from his Graveyard to the Detonator as an Xyz Material and then Set Metaltronus and Infinite Impermanence to his back row.
Garde activated Fiendsmith’s Tract to add Fabled Lurrie to his hand and then discarded it. He activated the Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck and then activated Lacrima’s effect. Barone Chained his Detonator’s effect to target Lacrima for destruction, then Chained Effect Veiler to negate Lacrima’s effect. Its effect was negated, and Lacrima was destroyed. Then, since he sent Effect Veiler from his hand to his Graveyard, Necroquip Princess’s effect activated, allowing Barone to draw Ice Ryzeal from his Deck. Garde conceded, unable to overcome Barone’s field.
Bobby Barone wins the first Duel of the Match!
Duel 2
Garde started off Duel 2 by activating Bonfire to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand.
He activated the effect of Fiendsmith’s Engraver in his hand next, and added Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck to his hand. He activated Tract to add Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and discard it. He Special Summoned Lurrie back to his field with its effect and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal next and activated its effect. He Chained the effect of his Requiem to Tribute it and Special Summon Lacrima from his Deck. He Special Summoned Ext from his Deck with Ice’s effect and then used the effects of Ext and Lacrima to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and send a Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. He combined Ext with Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and then activated its effect to try to get two cards from his Deck; but Barone activated the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy the Duo Drive, preventing its effect from resolving. Next, Garde shuffled Lurrie from his Graveyard into his Deck to Special Summon Engraver from his Graveyard. He then sent Lacrima and Engraver to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence and activated its effect. He returned two Engravers and a Requiem from his Graveyard to his Deck to Special Summon Fiendsmith’s Desirae in Attack Position. He sent Sequence and Desirae to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday and then used Agnumday’s effect targeting Desirae. He Special Summoned Desirae and equipped Agnumday to it. Next, he used his Sequence’s effect to equip the Sequence from his Graveyard to Desirae. He Special Summoned Sword from his hand next, and used its effect to add Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Ryzeal Cross next, and then combined Ext and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. He used its effect to attach Eclipse Twins to it from his Graveyard as an Xyz Material. He used Cross’s effect next, returning an Ice and Ext from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw a card. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.
Barone drew Infinite Impermanence and added it to his hand of Harpie’s Feather Duster, Lacrima the Crimson Tears, and 2 copies of Lightning Storm. He activated the Feather Duster, and Garde negated its effect with Desirae’s effect. Next, Barone activated Lightning Storm to destroy all of the Spell and Trap Cards on Garde’s field! Garde Chained Crossout Designator declaring Ext Ryzeal, and he banished an Ext from his Deck before all of his Spells and Traps were destroyed. Next, Barone activated Infinite Impermanence targeting Detonator, and Garde Chained his Detonator’s effect to destroy the Detonator. He used the effect of Eclipse Twins to Special Summon his destroyed Detonator back to the field with a Duo Drive attached as an Xyz Material and then used Detonator’s effect to attach Eclipse Twins from his Graveyard to the Detonator. Barone Normal Summoned Lacrima the Crimson Tears and activated its effect. Garde Chained Detonator’s effect to target Lacrima for destruction, then Chained Effect Veiler to negate its effect. Barone conceded with just a Lightning Storm in his hand.
The Match is going to a third and final Duel! The players checked in on their teammates to see how they were doing and learned that their teammates were both in the third Duel of their Matches.
Duel Three
Barone opened up Duel 3 with Ext Ryzeal, Fiendsmith Engraver, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Metaltronus, and Crossout Designator. He activated the Tract to add Fabled Lurrie to his hand and discarded it. He used the Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from his Deck and used Lacrima’s effect to send Fiendsmith Engraver from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used his Requiem’s effect in the Graveyard to equip it to Lacrima. He sent Requiem and Lacrima to the Graveyard to Special Summon Necroquip Princess and then activated the effect of the Engraver in his hand to add a Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck to his hand. He used Necroquip Princess’s effect to draw Solemn Judgment from his Deck and then activated the effect of the Engraver in his Graveyard by returning Fabled Lurrie to his Deck. He Special Summoned the Engraver and then sent Engraver and Necroquip to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. He activated Sequence’s effect. Garde tried to negate it with Infinite Impermanence, but Barone Chained Crossout Designator and banished an Infinite Impermanence from his Deck to make sure his Sequence’s effect resolved! He returned a Requiem and 2 Engravers from his Graveyard to his Deck to Special Summon Fiendsmith’s Desirae and then sent Desirae and Sequence to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Agnumday. He activated Agnumday’s effect targeting Lacrima and Special Summoned the Lacrima with Agnumday equipped. Next, he Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal from his hand by sending Eclipse Twins from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He used the effect of Ext to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He combined Lacrima with Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and then activated its effect. He detached 2 Xyz Materials from Duo Drive to add Ryzeal Cross and Node Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand.
At that point, Barone learned that both of his teammates had won their Matches! The Duelists no longer needed to continue their Match, since Team Chundra Fan Club secured the victory!
