Top 8 Feature Match: Vladis Baranovskis vs. Aydin Arnett
We’re almost there! We’re at the Top 8 here at TEAM YCS Las Vegas, and these Duelists are just a few steps away from being TEAM YCS Las Vegas winners! In this Feature Match, we have Vladis Baranovskis of Team 2G&B facing off against Aydin Arnett of Team “Princess, Target, Target”. Arnett is playing the pure Ryzeal deck, a strategy that has been popular all weekend long. Meanwhile, Baranovskis is piloting the only Blue-Eyes deck to make it into the Top 8! It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Baranovskis won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand consisted of Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, Wishes for Eyes of Blue, and Pot of Prosperity. He started by Normal Summoning Primite Ether Beryl, and activated its effect to Set Primite Lordly Lode directly from the Deck. Here, Arnett activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos from his hand! Next, BBaranovskis activated Lode’s effect to search, and Arnett responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He then activated Ether Beryl’s effect, Tributing it to send a copy of Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard.
Next, Baranovskis activated Pot of Prosperity, revealing Infinite Impermanence, Wishes for Eyes of Blue, and Majesty of the White Dragons, adding Wishes to hand. He then activated Wishes, discarding the other copy of Wishes to add Majesty of the White Dragons and Maiden of White to hand. He discarded Maiden of White, placing True Light face-up on his side of the field. Baranovskis then activated Lordly Lode’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and summoned Maiden alongside it! He Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Arnett Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, and Baranovskis responded with Effect Veiler, negating Ext’s effect. He then Normal Summoned a second copy of Ext, and Baranovskis responded by activating Majesty, destroying one of the Ext Ryzeal. Arnett entered the Battle Phase and attacked Maiden with Ext and Set a card to his backrow. During the End Phase, Baranovskis activated True Light’s effect to Set Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons to his Spell/Trap Zone.
Baranovskis drew Triple Tactics Talent for turn! During the Standby Phase, Baranovskis activated Primite Dragon Ether Beryl’s effect to add it back to hand. Baranovskis then Normal Summoned Ether Beryl, and Arnett negated its effect with Infinite Impermanence! Baranovskis then activated the effect of WIshes in his Graveyard, equipping Blue-Eyes White Dragon with Neo-Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, then sent them to the Graveyard to Special Summoon Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon. Baranovskis entered the Battle Phase and attacked Ext with Tyrant Dragon, and in the process Set Majesty of the White Dragons from his Graveyard back to the field. Afterwards, he attacked directly with Ether Beryl, then activated True Light’s effect to Special Summon another Blue-Eyes White Dragon! This allowed him to attack directly for more damage, and Special Summon Maiden of White from the Graveyard. In Main Phase 2, Baranovskis used Blue-Eyes and Maiden to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, then used Ether Beryl and Tyrant Dragon to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, and ended his turn.
Arnett started his turn by activating Ryzeal Cross, but when he attempted to activate its effect to return the two Ext Ryzeal to his Deck, Baranovskis responded with Majesty of the White Dragons! Unable to push any further, Arnett conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Arnett chose to go first! He started by activating Seventh Tachyon, revealing Number 104: Masquerade and adding Ext Ryzeal to his hand. He sent Ryzeal Duo Drive to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ext and search for Node Ryzeal, then Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal and searched for Ice Ryzeal. Arnett used Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive, attached to it the Duo Drive from his Graveyard, then activated its effect to search for Ryzeal Cross and Ryzeal Plugin. He activated Cross, then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoning another Ext Ryzeal from his Deck, then used Ice and Ext to Xyz Summon Eclipse Twins! Arnett then Special Summoned Node Ryzeal, and sent Twins to the Graveyard to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal, and used Sword and Node to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Eclipse Twins. Finally, Arnett used Ryzeal Cross to return two Ryzeal monsters to his Deck and draw a card, then Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.
Baranovskis’ opening hand contained Pot of Prosperity, Ultimate Slayer, Maiden of White, Triple Tactics Talent, and Harpie’s Feather Duster, and he drew Lightning Storm for turn! He started by activating Lightning Storm, and Arnett responded with Crossout Designator, calling Triple Tactics Talent! He destroyed Arnett’s Cross and an Infinite Impermanence. Next, Baranovskis activated Ultimate Slayer, sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard to return Detonator to the Extra Deck. He then activated the effect of Maiden of White, placing True Light in the Spell/Trap Zone, then activated True Light’s effect to Set Wishes for Eyes of Blue to his backrow. He activated Wishes, discarding Harpie’s Feather Duster to search for Sage with Eyes of Blue and Majesty of the White Dragons. On resolution, Arnett activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird! From there, Baranovskis Set a card to his backrow, then Normal Summoned Sage and used it to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! He attacked Duo Drive with TY-PHON, then ended his turn.
Arnett started by activating Ryzeal Plugin, Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal and activating its effect to search for Ice Ryzeal. He then Normal Summoned Ice, Special Summoning Ext Ryzeal from the Deck and searching for another Sword. He used Sword and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, and when he entered the Battle Phase, Baranovskis activated True Light’s effect to Set Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons from his Deck. Arnett used Detonator to attack TY-PHON, then in Main Phase 2, Special Summoned Ext by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard. He activated Twins effect, Special Summoning Duo Drive from the Graveyard and attaching it with Twins and Ext. Finally, he used Ext and Ice to Xyz Summon another Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Eclipse Twins, then ended his turn.
Baranovskis drew Triple Tactics Talent for turn! He activated Pot of Prosperity, which he could not use last turn due to Droll & Lock Bird. Arnett Chained Detonator’s effect to destroy Baranovskis’ face-down Roar, as Baranovskis revealed Primite Lordly Lode, Maiden of White, Primite Drillbeam, Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, and two Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He chose to add Ether Beryl to hand, then activated Triple Tactics Talent to take control of one of Arnett’s monsters, and Arnett responded by activating the effect of one of his Detonators to destroy Baranovskis’ True Light. Baranovskis took control of one of Arnett’s Detonators,
True Light eff to blow up the board, chain Arnetts deonator to pop the stolen detonator, chain stolen detonator to pop duo drive. True light destroys the board. Eclipse Twins eff when destroyed to summon Detonator and attach both eclipse twins.
Baranovskis Normal Summoned Primite Dragon Ether Beryl and Set Primite Lordly Lode from his Deck, but when he activated it, Arnett responded with the effect of Detonator! He used Ether Beryl to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue and search for Mausoleum of White, which Arnett destroyed with Detonator, as well! Baranovskis Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Arnett started his turn by Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal and searching for Ice Ryzeal. He then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal and Special Summoned another Sword Ryzeal from his Deck. Arnett entered the Battle Phase, and had enough monsters on the field to attack Baranovskis directly and win the second Duel!
Duel 3
Baranovskis’ opening hand contained Pot of Prosperity, Wishes for Eyes of Blue, Maiden of White, Primite Lordly Lode, and Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. During the Draw Phase, Arnett activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia! Baranovskis started by activating Lordly Lode, searching for Primite Drillbeam. He then activated the effect of Maiden of White, placing True Light to the Spell/Trap Zone. He activated Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons, and Arnett responded by activating the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Baranovskis Special Summoned Blue-Eyes White Dragon from Deck and Maiden from his Graveyard, then activated Pot of Prosperity! He revealed two copies of Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, Infinite Impermanence, Dominus Purge, Primite Lordly Lode, and Mausoleum of White, and chose to add Dominus Purge to hand. Next, Baranovskis activated True Light’s effect to Set Majesty of the White Dragons from his Deck, then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Arnett started his turn by activating Lightning Storm, but Baranovskis responded with Drillbeam, negating Storm! Next, Arnett activated Bonfire, but Baranovskis Chained Dominus Purge. Arnett Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard, as Baranovskis Chained the effect of True Light to Set Wishes for Eyes of Blue from his Deck as Arnett added Sword Ryzeal to his hand. He Special Summoned Sword and added Ice Ryzeal to his hand, and on resolution, Baranovskis activated Majesty of the White Dragons to destroy Arnett’s Sword! Arnett followed up by Normal Summoning Ice and Special Summoning Node Ryzeal, then used Ice and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and attach it with Sword. He activated Duo Drive’s effect to search for Ryzeal Cross and Ryzeal Plugin, activated Cross, then discarded Lightning Storm with Node’s effect to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal back from the Graveyard. He used Node and Sword to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach it with Mereologic Aggregator, then entered the Battle Phase. He destroyed Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Maiden in battle, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.
Baranovskis drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for turn! He activated True Light’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard, then entered the Battle Phase and attacked Ryzeal Duo Drive, and Arnett protected it by detaching a material from Detonator. Baranovskis used Blue-Eyes White Dragon to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis, then detached a material from it to attempt to return Ryzeal Detonator to the Extra Deck. Arnett used Ryzeal Cross to negate TY-PHON’s effect on resolution. Finally, Baranovskis Set a card and ended his turn. During the End Phase, Arnett activated Plugin to Special Summon Sword Ryzeal from the Graveyard and search for Ice Ryzeal.
Arnett kicked off his turn by activating the effect of Duo Drive, but Baranovskis responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, Arnett Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoning Sword Ryzeal from the Deck. He used the two copies of Sword to Xyz Summon Light Dragon @Ignister, as Baranovskis activated True Light’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard, which allowed him to bring back Maiden of White, as well. Arnett used Light Dragon’s effect to destroy TY-PHON, attacked Blue-Eyes with Duo Drive, and attacked Maiden with Ice Ryzeal. Baranovskis attempted to activate Maiden’s effect to Special Summon back Blue-Eyes, but on resolution, Arnett negated the card’s effect with Ryzeal Cross. Arnett pushed through and attacked with his other monsters to win the third Duel!
With his victory, Team “Princess, Target, Target” secures the win and moves on to the Top 4 at TEAM YCS Las Vegas!
