It’s Round 7 here at the Genesys Championship! For this round’s Feature Match, we have two Duelists that are playing strategies that have proven to be very popular throughout the day. Tan Duc Pham is playing the new Blitzclique Deck, a strategy that just recently debuted in Chaos Origins. Meanwhile, Robert James Morant is playing the DoomZ Deck, a powerful strategy that can be adapted for either Genesys or Advanced Format usage. These Duelists each have 4-1 records, so they’ll need to put up their best performances in order to have a chance of making it to Day 2!

Duel 1

Morant won the die roll and chose to go first! He opened with Seventh Tachyon, Nibiru, the Primal Being, Dark Ruler No More, and two copies of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea. During the Standby Phase, Pham activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Morant started by activating Seventh Tachyon, revealing Number C103: Ragnazero from his Extra Deck to search for Surfacing Big Jaws. He Special Summoned Big Jaws, then used its effect to search for Drake Shark! He Special Summoned Drake Shark, then activated its effect as Pham activated the effect of a second copy of Mulcharmy Purulia. Morant used Surfacing Big Jaws and Drake Shark to Xyz Summon Doomz Break – Diactorus, then used Diactorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio! In response to the summon, Pham activated Dominus Spiral, returning Graflareio to the Extra Deck and allowing Morant to Special Summon back Diactorus from the Graveyard. Next, Morant activated the effect of Drastea in hand, destroying Diactorus, Special Summoning Drastea, and equipping it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G”. He then activated the effect of the destroyed Diactorus to search for DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and ended his turn.

Pham began his turn by Normal Summoning Crackle Blitzclique. In response to the summon, Morant activated the effect of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea, Special Summoning DoomZ XII End – Drastrius and equipping it with Crackle. Next, Pham activated Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb, Special Summoning a Token to Morant’s field and allowing Pham to search for Grain Blitzclique. He then activated the effect of Grain, destroying Coulomb to Special Summon it from his hand. Next, Pham activated the effect of Surge Blitzclique in hand, attempting to destroy the Token on Morant’s side of the field, but Morant Chained the effect of Drastrius, destroying the Token himself! Morant equipped Drastrius with Pham’s Grain, then Pham Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Morant drew DoomZ V Five – Amalthe for turn! He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to search for DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, then equipped Amalthe with DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” from his hand. He activated the effect of Amalthe; Pham Chained the effect of Crackle Blitzclique, but Morant followed up by activating the effect of Drastrius to destroy his own Amalthe! Morant was unable to bring out an Xyz Monster, but this meant that Pham couldn’t get his Blitzclique monster onto the field. Morant proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked Pham’s Life Points directly with Drastrius, then ended his turn. During the End Phase, Pham activated Blitzclique Alternator, returning a card from his hand to the Deck to search for Emi Blitzclique. This allowed him to activate the effect of Emi, Special Summoning Crackle from hand and destroying the Crackle on Morant’s field. He also added Coulomb from the Graveyard back to hand.

Pham started his turn by activating Coulomb, Special Summoning another Token to Morant’s side of the field and searching for Grain Blitzclique. He activated Grain’s effect, attempting to destroy the Grain Blitzclique on Morant’s side of the field; Morant Chained the effect of Drastrius to destroy it himself, and Pham followed up with Alternator to search for Thunder King, the Lightning Strike Kaiju. Pham Tributed Morant’s Drastrius to Special Summon the Thunder King Kaiju to Morant’s side of the field, then banished Alternator from his Graveyard to search for Blitzclique – Steppleader and proceeded to the Battle Phase. There, he attacked Morant’s Life Points directly with his monsters, then activated Breakaway, returning Emi to hand and destroying his Coulomb. This allowed him to activate the effect of Surge, searching for Whisker Blitzclique. He activated Whisker’s effect in the Battle Phase to Special Summon it and another Thunder King Kaiju from hand, and attack directly to wipe out the rest of Morant’s Life Points!

Duel 2

Morant chose to go second in the second Duel! He opened with DoomZ V Five – Amalthe, DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea, DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”, DoomZ Raiders, and Seventh Tachyon.

Pham started in the Draw Phase by activating Blitzclique – Breakaway, placing Blitzclique Alternator to his backrow, then used Alternator to search for Grain Blitzclique. He activated the effect of Grain, destroying Alternator and Special Summoning Grain, allowing him to add Breakaway back to hand. He then banished Alternator from his Graveyard to search for Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb! He activated Coulomb, then used its effect to Special Summon a Token to Morant’s side of the field and search for Surge Blitzclique. He activated the effect of Surge, destroying the Token and Special Summoning Surge, then used Grain’s effect to search for Blitzclique – Steppleader. Finally, he Set three cards to his backrow, activated Steppleader, and ended his turn.

Morant drew DoomZ Change for turn! He started by equipping DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to Pham’s Surge, then activated its effect. However, Pham Chained Blitzclique – Breakaway, returning Grain to hand and destroying DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” before he could resolve its effect! This allowed him to activate the effect of Surge Blitzclique to search for Whisker Blitzclique. Next, Morant activated Seventh Tachyon, searching for Surfacing Big Jaws. He Special Summoned it, then searched for and Special Summoned Drake Shark. Here, Pham activated the effect of Whisker, Special Summoning it and Grain from hand and destroying both Surfacing Big Jaws and Drake Shark! Afterwards, he used Grain’s effect to search for another copy of Breakaway. Morant then activated DoomZ Raiders, but when he activated its effect, Pham Chained Typhoon, destroying it! Morant followed this up by Normal Summoning DoomZ V Five – Amalthe, but Pham Chained the effect of Whisker, returning Surge to hand to negate Amalthe’s effect. With no pushes remaining, Morant conceded.

With the victory, Pham improves to 5-1, and is one step closer to Day 2 here at the Genesys Championship!
