We’ve almost reached the end of the Swiss Rounds here at the North America WCQ! It’s Round 14, which means that there’s only two more rounds until the Duelists find out their final placements. For this Feature Match, we have Casey Tyler Hutchinson playing an interesting Deck that makes use of the Light and Darkness Ritual, Fiendsmith, and Yummy cards. Meanwhile, Ramon Luis Rivera is playing the Light and Darkness Ritual Deck, but has chosen to combine it with a package of cards centered around Fallen of the White Dragon. These Duelists have 10-3 records, which means that they’re competing for additional prizing depending on their standings. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Rivera opened with Called by the Grave, Skull Archfiend of Chaos, Ragged Records of Rites, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Fallen of Albaz. 

Hutchinson won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by Normal Summoning Lollipo☆Yummy, then using it to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to the field. He activated Mignon’s effect, Special Summoning back Lollipo, then used the two to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way! He added Marshmao☆Yummy and Cupsy☆Yummy to hand, then discarded Skull Archfiend of Chaos. He used the Archfiend’s effect to send Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard to search for Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness. He Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy and searched for Cooky☆Yummy, Special Summoned Marshmao☆Yummy, used Marshmao to Link Summon Linkuriboh, then used Linkuriboh and Cupsy to Synchro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way! He Special Summoned back two monsters, then used the two to Link Summon Reprodocus and turn Lollipo☆Yummy Way into a Fiend-type monster. Hutchinson used Lollipo to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem and tried to activate its effect, but Rivera Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Hutchinson Chained the effect of Cupsy☆Yummy Way, returning it to the Extra Deck and Special Summoning back Lollipo☆Yummy Way and Lollipo☆Yummy, then used Lollipo☆Yummy’s effect to return Rivera’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to the Deck. He Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy from hand, then used Cooky and Reprodocus to Link Summon ASHLAN U1000! He used its effect to search for the Illusion of Chaos, and activated its effect to search for Magicians’ Souls. He Special Summoned Souls by sending Black Chaos from his Deck to the Graveyard, then added both Black Chaos and Light and Darkness Ritual from his Graveyard back to hand, and used the effect of Black Chaos to place Mind Shuffle to his backrow. 

Hutchinson activated Yummy☆Surprise to Special Summon Marshmao and add Surprise back to hand, then used the effect of Mind Shuffle to search for Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and discard Surprise. He activated Light and Darkness Ritual and banished Black Chaos from his Graveyard to Special Summon the Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and add Surprise back to his hand once again! Finally, he used Souls and Lollipo to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Rivera drew a card for turn, but knew that he could not break through Hutchinson’s board with the cards he had in his hand, and conceded without revealing his Deck type.

Duel 2

Rivera chose to go first for the second Duel! He opened with Fallen of the White Dragon, Ragged Records of Rites, Forbidden Crown, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Chaos Magical Hats. He sent Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard to Special Summon White Dragon, then used its effect to bring Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous from his Deck. Next, he used the two to Synchro Summon The Crimson King and searched for Soul Resonator! He Normal Summoned the Resonator and used its effect to search for Griffoh, then activated Griffoh’s effect to Set Mind Shuffle to his backrow. He activated Mind Shuffle and used its effect to search for Skull Archfiend of Chaos and discard it, then used the Archfiend’s effect to send Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard and add Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to hand. 

Rivera followed up by activating Ragged Records of Rites, adding Celtic Mystic to hand! He added Light and Darkness Ritual and Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Graveyard back to hand, then activated Ritual, banishing Griffoh from his Graveyard to Ritual Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and add Light and Darkness Ritual back to hand. He then Set two cards to his backrow, and used the effect of Albion to Set The Fallen & The Virtuous to his backrow. Still during the End Phase, Hutchinson activated the effect of Griffoh to Set Mind Shuffle to his backrow; however, when he tried to activate its effect, Rivera Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Rivera’s turn came to an end.

During Hutchinson’s Draw Phase, Rivera activated the effect of Mind Shuffle to search for Black Chaos and discard Skull Archfiend of Chaos, allowing him to send Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard and search for Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness. Hutchinson attempted to activate the effect of his own Mind Shuffle, but Rivera Chained The Fallen & The Virtuous, destroying Mind Shuffle before Hutchinson could resolve its effect! In Main Phase 1, Hutchinson activated the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver, searching for Fiendsmith’s Tract, then used Fiendsmith’s Tract to search for and discard Fabled Lurrie. Hutchinson Special Summoned back the Lurrie, Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem, and used Requiem’s effect to bring out Lacrima the Crimson Tears. Next, he used Illusion of Chaos to search for Magicians’ Souls, then Special Summoned Fiendsmith Engraver from the Graveyard by returning Lurrie to the Deck! He equipped Requiem to Engraver, then used Engraver’s effect to try and send Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to the Graveyard, but Rivera Chained the effect of Mind Shuffle, returning the Magician of Dark Chaos to the hand to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness and banish Engraver! Hutchinson Special Summoned Souls from hand by sending Black Chaos to the Graveyard, as Rivera used the effect of Mind Shuffle to return the Black Luster Soldier to hand, allowing him to Special Summon back the Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and add The Fallen & The Virtuous back to his hand. From there, Hutchinson used Lacrima and Souls to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence, but when he activated its effect, Rivera Chained Forbidden Crown! Finally, Hutchinson activated Triple Tactics Talent, but Rivera Chained Chaos Magical Hats! Hutchinson conceded, and we’re moving on to game three.

Duel 3

Rivera opened with The Fallen & The Virtuous, Light and Darkness Ritual, Skull Archfiend of Chaos, Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness, and Mulcharmy Purulia.

Hutchinson chose to go first in the final Duel! In the Draw Phase, Rivera activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Hutchinson started by activating the effect of Black Chaos, placing Mind Shuffle to his backrow, then used its effect to search for and discard Skull Archfiend of Chaos. He sent Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard to search for Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness, then Special Summoned Magicians’ Souls by sending a second copy of Black Chaos to the Graveyard. This allowed Rivera to draw Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! He sent Mind Shuffle to the Graveyard to draw a card, Normal Summoned Droll & Lock Bird, then used Droll to Link Summon Salamangreat Almiraj. He used Almiraj and Souls to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way, but when he activated its effect, Rivera Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! He added Black Chaos and Light and Darkness Ritual back to hand, then used the effect of Black Chaos to once again place Mind Shuffle to his backrow face-up!

From here, Hutchinson used Cupsy☆Yummy Way to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to the field. He then activated Light and Darkness Ritual, banishing Black Chaos from the Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness! He used the effect of Skull Archfiend of Chaos in the Graveyard, returning three cards from the Graveyards to Special Summon it back, then used Archfiend and Snatchy to Link Summon S:P Little Knight before ending his turn.

Rivera drew Fydraulis Harmonia for turn! In the Draw Phase, Hutchinson activated the effect of Mind Shuffle, but Rivera Chained The Fallen & The Virtuous, sending Titaniklad the Ash Dragon to the Graveyard to destroy Mind Shuffle before Hutchinson could resolve its effect. Rivera then Normal Summoned Fallen of Albaz, discarding Skull Archfiend of Chaos to activate its effect. Hutchinson activated the effect of S:P, Rivera Chained the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia, and Hutchinson activated the effect of D.D. Crow as Chain Link 4! Archfiend was banished from the Graveyard; Rivera Special Summoned Fydraulis Harmonia, destroyed S:P, and sent Enigmaster Packbit to the Graveyard; and Rivera was unable to resolve the effect of Albaz. In the following Chain, Rivera used the effect of Packbit to place Hutchinson’s Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness to the Spell/Trap Zone. Rivera activated Light and Darkness Ritual, and Hutchinson Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to negate its effect. However, Rivera added both Ritual and Mind Shuffle back to hand, then activated Light and Darkness Ritual once again, banishing Packbit from his Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness! Rivera proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked Hutchinson’s Life Points directly with Albaz, Harmonia, and Black Luster Soldier, then Set a card to his backrow. During the End Phase, Rivera used the effect of Titaniklad to Special Summon Fallen of the White Dragon and bring out Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous, then search for The Fallen & The Virtuous. 

During Hutchinson’s Draw Phase, Rivera activated Mind Shuffle, searching for and discarding Skull Archfiend of Chaos; however, he didn’t have any more copies of Light and Darkness Ritual in his Deck, so he couldn’t activate the Archfiend’s effect! Hutchinson Special Summoned Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Graveyard, returning Snatchy to his Extra Deck, then Normal Summoned Marshmao☆Yummy and used it to Link Summon Snatchy once again! He used the effect of Yummyusment☆Mignon to bring back Marshmao, then used the two to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way. He searched for Cupsy☆Yummy and Cooky☆Yummy and discarded Illusion of Chaos, then Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy and searched for Yummy☆Surprise. He brought out Cooky☆Yummy, then used it to Link Summon Linkuriboh. He used Cooky and Linkuriboh to Sycnhro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way and Special Summon back two Yummy monsters from the Graveyard, then used the two to Link Summon Reprodocus! He activated the effect of Reprodocus, turning Cupsy☆Yummy Way into a Fiend-type monster. He then used Cupsy to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, and activated Requiem’s effect to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. 

Hutchinson added Black Chaos and Light and Darkness Ritual back to hand, then used the effect of Black Chaos to place Mind Shuffle to his backrow. From here, he used Lacrima and Reprodocus to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence, then activated Sequence’s effect to Special Summon Aerial Eater and send Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard! He activated Surprise, brought back Marshmao☆Yummy, and added Surprise back to hand, then Tributed the Marshmao to Special Summon Linkrubioh. He used Linkuriboh and Sequence to Link Summon ASHLAN U1000, then activated the effect of Mind Shuffle, searching for Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and discarding Surprise. He returned Sequence to the Extra Deck to Special Summon Engraver, then equipped it with Requiem. He used Engraver’s effect to send both Requiem and Rivera’s Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness to the Graveyard, and activated Light and Darkness Ritual, banishing Black Chaos from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos! He used the effect of ASHLAN to return Ecclesia to Rivera’s hand, and used the Magician of Dark Chaos’ effect to add Surprise back to hand. He used the Magician’s other effect to banish Fydraulis Harmonia, and proceeded to the Battle Phase. He used ASHLAN to attack Fallen of the White Dragon and Archfiend to attack Fallen of Albaz, then attacked directly with his remaining monsters to wipe out the rest of Rivera’s Life Points!

With the victory, Hutchinson improves to 11-3. Only one more round until we find out the final standings!
