NAWCQ Top 8 Feature Match: Logan Patrick Johnson vs. Mario Angelo De Micco
We’ve reached the top 8 here at the 2026 North America WCQ! The top 8 Duelists after the Swiss Rounds are competing for an invitation to the World Championship in Japan. For this Feature Match, we have Logan Patrick Johnson facing off against Mario Angelo De Micco. Both Duelists have piloted the Kewl Tune strategy exceptionally well all weekend, with De Micco having already earned his invitation to Japan in the World Qualifying Points Playoff on Friday. Nevertheless, each Duelist is hoping to bring home the trophy as winner of the 2026 North America WCQ! It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Johnson opened the first Duel with Kewl Tune Mix, Infinite Impermanence, Kewl Tune Reco, and two copies of Kewl Tune Rotary.
De Micco won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Reco and activating its effect, but it was met by Johnson’s Infinite Impermanence. De Micco then activated Synchro Overtake to Special Summon Kewl Tune Mix from the Deck and search for Kewl Tune Rotary. He activated the effect of Rotary, revealing Kewl Tune Cue, then Normal Summoned Cue and Special Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his Deck! He used Cue and Rotary to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, and used the effects of his Kewl Tune monsters to look at Johnson’s hand and search for two copies of Kewl Tune Synchro, then banish Infinite Impermanence from the top of Johnson’s Deck. De Micco used Ash and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon, then used Mix and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix. Finally, he Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.

Johnson drew Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion for turn! De Micco started in the Standby Phase by activating the effect of Remix; Johnson tried to Chain the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, but De Micco activated the effect of Zalen the Shackled Dragon to negate it! De Micco resolved the effect of Remix, Special Summoning Reco and adding Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring back to hand, then used Reco’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Clip. Johnson Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Rotary, and in response, De Micco chose to activate Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Reco, then used Mix and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS! He activated the effect of Mix, destroying Johnson’s Rotary. On resolution, De Micco activated the effect of Kewl Tune Clip, Special Summoning it, then using Zalen and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune B2B! Afterwards, Johnson activated the effect of Rotary; De Micco Chained the effect of B2B, Special Summoning back Track Maker, then used Track Maker and Clip to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War! Johnson resolved the effect of Rotary to Normal Summon Reco. However, Johnson realized he didn’t have the resources to break through De Micco’s board, and conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2
Johnson chose to go first in the second Duel, opening with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Dominus Purge, Kewl Tune Mix, and two copies of Kewl Tune Cue. During the Draw Phase, De Micco activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Johnson Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Mix and activated its effect to search for Kewl Tune Rotary. Next, he activated the effect of Rotary, revealing Cue in hand, and Normal Summoned the Rotary. He used Cue and Rotary to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, then activated the effects of his Kewl Tune monsters; De Micco activated the effect of Effect Veiler, negating the effect of Kewl Tune Track Maker, but Johnson resolved the effects of Rotary and Cue, allowing him to look at De Micco’s hand, search for Kewl Tune Synchro, then look at the top two cards of De Micco’s Deck. He chose to banish Illusion Gate and return Infinite Impermanence to the top of De Micco’s Deck. Johnson Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.

De Micco began his turn by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Cue! He activated its effect, but Johnson Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. De Micco then activated Kewl Tune Synchro! Johnson Chained his own, but De Micco activated the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring as Chain Link 3. De Micco resolved his own Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Rotary. De Micco entered the Battle Phase and used Cue to attack Mix, then in Main Phase 2, used Cue and Rotary to Synchro Summon his own Kewl Tune Track Maker! He used the effects of Rotary and Track Maker to look at Johnson’s hand and search for Kewl Tune Reco and JJ “Kewl Tune”, then looked at the top two cards of Johnson’s Deck, returning Solemn Warning to the top of Johnson’s Deck. De Micco activated JJ, and used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Reco and search for Kewl Tune Mix. He used Reco and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon, then used the effects of Reco and Track Maker to get rid of Johnson’s remaining cards. Johnson knew that he didn’t have the resources to push through De Micco’s board, and conceded.

De Micco wins and is moving on to the top 4!
